Blogroll Part 1

What is so amazing is that there are so many truly well written and passionate comic book blogs in the blogosphere. I have a link list to the various comic book blogs that I enjoy reading. However, I figured that it was time for a blogroll in order to shine a spotlight on all of these excellent comic book blogs that people should really be checking out. All of these blogs have inspired me to do my best with The Revolution. We will go ahead and do this blogroll in alphabetical order.

4thletter: David, Gavok and Esther form the three headed blog known as the 4th Letter. This is great looking blog that has a nice clean and professional appearance. This is one of those blogs that I find so well put together that it makes me embarrassed about my own. These guys deliver posts ranging from opinion pieces concerning the current state of affairs in the world of comics, short reviews of current issues and retrospectives of older issues and the history of comic books. 4th Letter offers a nice variety of topics and is regularly updated. The posts are well written and intelligent. This is a blog that feels professionally done and is always a good read.

Again With the Comics: Brian Hughes delivers the goodness to us on a regular basis over at Again with the Comics. Brian has a great sense of humor that makes this blog such a fun read. Brian mostly focuses the silly and the surreal that can be found in the world of comic books. And Brian does not limit himself to just current comic books. The readers get treated to some entertaining and unusual looks at some older comics. Of some of the most recent posts I particularly enjoyed learning about Krypto being fascist. The posts range across a wide variety of topics and comics and each one is well crafted and entertaining.

Ampersand Comics: Matt Ampersand is new to the world of comic book blogs. But, don’t mistake that for this blog not being a top notch and well done comic book blog. In a matter of a few weeks, Matt has managed to create a blog that I am already envious of. Ampersand Comics delivers mostly commentary and opinion pieces on various current comic book titles as well as general comic book topics such as the Spider-Man retcon or the debate between Secret Invasion and Final Crisis. All of Matt’s posts are incredibly detailed and very well written. This may be a young blog, but it has high quality writing that gets the reader thinking.

At the Edge of the Omniverse: Eric Rupe heads up the At the Edge of the Omniverse blog. This is another well crafted blog. What I like about this blog is that Eric focuses mostly on reviewing trades rather than single issues. What I also dig about At the Edge of the Omniverse is that Eric reviews tons of titles from publishers like Image, Top Cow, Red 5 Comics, and other indie publishers. Eric’s wide range makes me realize how limited I am in the world of Marvel and DC.

The reviews are detailed enough to give the reader a nice sense of what to expect if they purchase a certain trade, but not so detailed that they spoil the entire trade for the reader. And I have found Eric’s recommendations to be pretty dependable.

Behind My Byline: Tyroshutterbog delivers a fun blog that covers more than just comic books. Does he review comics? Sure. He always has his “Quick Hit” of the week where he does a review on his favorite issue from the week. But, he also touches on other areas of geek-dom from television to movies to other areas as well. This blog offers some neat observations and delivers them in a nice fashion.

Blog This Pal: Gordon Dymowski runs this blog and does a masterful job with it. Not only does this blog have one of the best names of any blog I have seen, it is also extremely entertaining. This is another blog that goes beyond just comic books. Gordon touches on a wide range of topics including Doctor Who, various comedies like Kids in the Hall (which is absolutely hilarious), movies and pop culture. Gordon has a nice writing style and his posts are enjoyable reads. This is an intelligent blog that is worth checking out.

Building Batman: “Bruce” runs this blog and what a unique blog it is. Bruce spends many of his posts on reviewing all the various abilities and gadgets of Batman and what he will have to learn in order to become the Batman. And believe me, Bruce gets seriously in depth into these topics. I now know more about the aerodynamics of a batarang than I thought I was ever possible. Of course, Bruce also delivers some good reviews on the various Batman related comic books. Bruce has a good sense of humor and his posts are entertaining reads.

Now Bruce is unpredictable as is evidenced lately with his kick of investigating Wonder Woman and her past as a bondage girl. As Bruce looks through these old Golden Age and Silver Age Wonder Woman titles where Wondy inevitably gets tied up. And at the same time Bruce also teaches the reader how to tie various different types of knots. The knot tying instructions are detailed with a moving picture and pretty helpful. See, who said that entertainment cannot also be educational?

Chris’ Invincible Super Blog: Chris Sims runs the Invincible Super Blog. This is an incredible blog. Seriously, this is one of those blogs that is so professionally done and put together that it makes you want to stop doing your blog. At least it did to me. Chris has such a great sense of humor and a wonderful writing style. And that makes this blog such an enjoyable read. Chris regularly gets me to do a spit take sending my coffee across my computer screen with his posts. Some are very short consisting of only a picture or two, but they are absolute classics. Chris also has the ability to comb through old comic books and pick out some truly hilarious panels.

Of course, it is a comic book blog, so Chris does not always just go for laughs with humorous posts. Chris also cranks out some fantastic reviews. Chris does a good job breaking down a comic book in his reviews and offers some interesting commentary.

Club-Batman: Julia runs this blog. I guess this blog may have limited appeal to The Revolution’s followers since Club-Batman is in Spanish. However, for those of you out there who read Spanish then go ahead and give this blog a try. Julia is a very passionate Batman fan who publishes some incredibly detailed posts. And Julia knows her history as she is as well versed talking about old Golden Age Batman comics as she is modern day Batman titles.

Collected Editions: I love this blog. Collected Editions specializes in reviewing trade paperbacks only. His writing style is a pleasure to read. Collected Editions crafts an intelligent review that gives the reader a nice sense of the trade and if they should bother getting it themselves. The reviews are detailed and always offer an interesting and critical view of the subject matter.

Readers who prefer to get trades rather than monthly floppies should definitely check out Collected Editions. This blog is an invaluable resource. But, even readers like me who buy mostly monthly floppies; Collected Editions is still such a well done blog that I would recommend checking it out even if you don’t get trades that often. I know that I have purchased an older trade based on the review in Collected Editions.

  1. On one hand, I definitely want to thank you for the post. On the other hand, I want to apologize. You’re talking about how 4th Letter is filled with intelligent discussion, only to have people click on it to find me talking about a Billy Ray Cyrus comic book. There goes your credibility 🙁
