Without a doubt, this was one of my favorites of the year. This is what makes life great. I was expecting a decent comic book and found a great one instead.

The reimagining of the X-verse in the format of a film noir setting worked better than I thought it would. I especially enjoyed Gambit and the Angel. Most fans were not expecting the Golden Age Angel to be the viewpoint character. And Gambit was classic in his role. I don’t want to ruin the surprises for anyone who hasn’t read this yet so I will not comment on specific story points.

The author, Fred Van Lente, has designed the perfect story for this series. He must have channelled the spirit of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett when he wrote this one. If you enjoy this story, look up the works of the authors mentioned above.

Dennis Calero turned in the perfect artwork for this story. At times I thought I was watching an old Humphrey Bogart movie. If Calero can keep this up, he will be moved near the top of my favorite artist list for this year.

Highly recommended.
