DC Comics June 2025 comic book solicitations are here! Based on these solicitations DC Comics appears to be revamping their continuity and adding making decisions that impact the status quos of many characters. Let’s take a look at the biggest takeaways from DC Comics June 2025 solicitations.
BARRY ALLEN CHRONICLES NEW HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE
Since returning to DC Comics Mark Waid has been in charge of modernizing a lot of older periods for the DCU. That’s been largely seen through his work with Dan Mora and others on Batman/Superman: World’s Finest. Recently he’s also been working on Batman & Robin: Year One, World’s Finest: Teen Titans, and Action Comics.
Now Waid will continue that trend of modernizing classic DC Comics characters and element with the New History of the DC Universe. Working with artists Jerry Ordway and Todd Nauck, Waid is taking the challenge of celebrating and presenting the DC Universe 90 year history in this new mini-series.
Telling this history through the eyes of Barry Allen is an interesting choice. Barry is no longer the main Flash as he has handed that over to Wally West for the last few years. He also lost his connection to the Speed Force during the events of Absolute Power, which was written by Waid. The new role of Chronicler of Time appears to be the next step for Barry as he no longer is the Fastest Man Alive. With Wally long since proven himself to carry the Flash mantle as well as Barry did, this is a great next step for Barry to take.
JUSTICE LEAGUE VS GODZILLA VS KONG: ROUND 2
With the success of the Justice League vs Godzilla vs Kong crossover in 2024 it is not surprising that DC Comics would immediately greenlight a sequel one year later. This is a good partnership for DC as Warner Brothers is invested in the Godzilla vs Kong brand of movies. Having this synergy and showing the Justice League can help sell more Godzilla and Kong content is something they need to show their Warner Brothers overlords.
The timing for this sequel is given some added spice as Marvel is going to be in the middle of their own Godzilla crossover versus series. Marvel and DC Comics are going with two very distinct approaches. Whereas DC is having their biggest heroes in one mini-series, Marvel is doing one-shots with different featured heroes going up with different versions of Godzilla over the years.
Seeing the Marvel vs DC Comics take on this form hopefully results in some greater competition. It would certainly help Justice League vs Godzilla vs Kong 2 as the magic of the original won’t be there for the sequel. What new originality can be had from the sequel will come from how Bruce Buccellato and Christian Duce integrate villains like King Ghidorah and Legion of Doom as part of the story.
BATMAN VS ROBIN & BANE
The Batman #161 is very slim in terms of information what will to expect in the Hush sequel. But what information it does provide is a big one. And that is the fact that Damian Wayne’s Robin will be teaming up with Bane with suggestions it’ll be up against Batman.
This is a massive development given the animosity between Damian and Bane after the latter made the former watch Alfred Pennyworth’s neck snap and killed. It does speak to how dark things we can expect to get as Hush’s plans lead to such a severe action to be taken by Damian. What that actually means for Batman’s role in the story and their future of the Dynamic Duo is anyone’s guess.
Though it is a bit disappointing that Damian is the Robin getting the nod to play a big role in the Hush sequel. It’s not surprising as Damian will be featured in the Batman & Robin live-action movie as part of James Gunn’s DC Universe. Though given that the likes of Tim Drake, Jason Todd, and Duke Thomas are largely sidelined it is too bad they aren’t being used. They may be as we still haven’t seen Batman: Hush 2 start. How that starts will say a lot about the standing of the Batman Family members that don’t have their own solo titles.
WONDER WOMAN & TRINITY SHAPE THEIR FUTURES
Tom King is moving to the next phase of his Wonder Woman plans. And what better way to deliver the next big epic than basing the narrative around a new villain named Mouse Man? It is a villain just like Sovereign that screams “must read.”
Joking aside, this is honestly exactly what I expect King to do. For those that read King’s Batman run will know that he enjoys bringing in a character that others would utilize for laughs. He did that with how he developed Kite Man, a character that has now had some mainstream success thanks to the Harley Quinn animated series. At least King may do something different as Sovereign did not exactly hit a home run in an attempt to be Wonder Woman’s new main adversary.
King’s Wonder Woman plans aren’t stopping there as Diana and Steve Trevor’s daughter is finally getting her own comic book. Trinity is a character that King is doing his best to sell as a character to be positioned like Robin for Batman. How good of a job King has done to accomplish this will be really tested with Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman.
Especially since it is a six-issue mini-series. It is one thing to sell a one-shot starring Trinity. But can King create and keep a strong readership for Trinity? Or will she fall like Yara Flor before her? We will see.
DARKNESS CONTINUES TO CONSUME ABSOLUTE UNIVERSE
Throughout all of the Absolute Universe titles we are seeing how differently each of the heroes are being tested. On the Absolute Batman side of things we will be seeing him take on the Absolute Universe’s Bane. And like so many, Bane is getting some big changes as the villain is teased to have major connections to Bruce Wayne’s new ally, Alfred Pennyworth.
Then there is Absolute Superman where we will continue to learn about Smallville’s new importance to the character while battling the Lazarus Corps. Meanwhile Absolute Wonder Woman is stuck in a horror maze, Wally arrives in Central City for the first time, Martian Manhunter deals with a heatwave, and Hal Jordan appears to be a villain going against Jo Mullein.
This all shows there is a wide variety of stories going on in the Absolute Universe. This variety all feeds into how the heroes are being tested in completely different ways than their main DC Universe counterparts. The idea of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter are being turned on their heads. Eventually we may end up seeing one of these characters we see as heroes break, which is hinted to be happening with Absolute Hal Jordan.
NEW GENESIS NO MORE FOR NEW GODS
While Darkseid has been busy shaking up and molding the Absolute Universe in his vision it has not meant the New Gods problems are done. As has been shown in the New Gods series that is now leading to the fall of New Genesis. This is an epic moment for the DC Universe as New Genesis is an iconic location not named Earth.
So where do the New Gods go with the fall of New Genesis? Well, were else: Earth! That’s right the Justice League will no longer be the only Gods Among Us anymore. There will be actual characters known as New Gods that will be trying to make their home on Earth.
The big word there is try, because New Gods #7 questions whether the New Genesis citizens will either be “welcomed to Earth as refugees or rejected as invaders.” Given the current state of the real world it won’t be surprising if Ram V does delve into the New Gods not being welcomed on Earth.
As shown on the cover for New Gods #7, the Justice League will likely welcome the New Gods as they’ve been longtime allies. Though that familiarity does not extend to Earth’s population. Having the New Gods arrive will also lead to animosity. Which could set up an event down the line with the New Gods and Justice League.
AYA RETURNING TO GREEN LANTERN CORPS
Green Lantern #24 is teasing the return of a lost ally. But not just any lost ally, it is a return that is being promoted to shock us. When it comes to the Green Lantern franchise in particular there aren’t any returns that would be shocking. At least none of the obvious ones.
Now the one “lost ally” that would hit on that shocking level would be Aya. This wouldn’t be the first time that Aya has appeared in the DC Universe as her one and only appearance came in 2011’s Green Lantern #65, a few months before the premiere of the Green Lantern animated series. Given that Razer is now part of the DC Universe and has even spoken about searching for Aya this could be the story being told. Especially since Kyle Rayner is leading a team similar to the trio we saw in the Green Lantern animated series.
Aya return would be good timing as we are seeing AI being a big part of the world now. What happens if an AI as sophisticated as Aya in the middle of the Fractured Spectrum era? It could delve deeper into how the chaotic state of the Emotional Spectrum is impacting everything in the DC Universe, including AI beings.
DEATHSTROKE BRINGS BACK TERRA TO FIGHT THE TITANS
In last week’s Titans #21 the team finally learned that a returning Deathstroke is behind all the villains they have been fighting during DC All In. With his return no longer being a secret we will soon see Deathstroke escalate his plans with the Crime Syndicate. And he is going to make things even more personal by bringing Terra back.
If the cover for Titans #24 Deathstroke isn’t looking for a happy reunion between Terra and her old team she betrayed. Terra is back to her villainous ways and going in for the kill.
With how DC Comics is not hiding Terra’s return whatsoever it does leave us wondering what surprises John Layman and Pete Woods have. The Deathstroke-led Crime Syndicate have been slowly building up their numbers. Terra being added to them will be a boost in the power factor. Though what exactly it means for the long-term play Deathstroke is going for with his Crime Syndicate is what will be the real story here.
JASON TODD GETS OWN ROBIN & BATMAN: YEAR ONE RETELLING
Jason Tood is getting his own Year One-style comic book with Robin & Batman: Jason Todd by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen. The immediate reaction to this is that it is about time. DC is giving Jason Todd’s new comic book a big time creative team with Lemire and Nguyen so the quality will be there.
What we can only hope for from this series is that it won’t be a retread of just Jason’s origin or his ties to Joker. Just about every time we see stories delve into Jason’s time as Robin it always goes back to the Joker. Robin & Batman: Jason Todd should be an opportunity to explore other aspects of this period for the character.
And as we’ve seen with comics like World’s Finest, this comic should modernize the character’s time as Robin. That includes the role that not only Bruce Wayne but also Dick Grayson have to play with Jason’s time as Robin. That is hinted at with Nightwing on the cover and would provide greater insight in this period for not just Jason but the entire Batman Family.
