Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #3 Review

Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #3 Review

Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII is a timely mini-series that Marvel put out ahead of the latest MCU movie starring Wade Wilson and Logan. Adding to the timeliness is the fact that the final issue, Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #3, of this mini-series, will be released the same week as the movie’s release. So far this has been a comic book that’s just mindless fun. This is honestly what both Deadpool and Wolverine excel in, especially when they are together. Let’s look at how this mini-series ends with Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #3.

REVIEW

Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #3 delivers an ending that is as wild and crazy as this entire series has been. Like the first two issues, there isn’t a lot of deep character exploration here. This is just mindless fun and that is honestly all this ending needed to be.

The most impressive thing about this entire series is how Joe Kelly and Adam Kubert challenged themselves to make each issue wilder than the previous one. They accomplish just that by coming up with the crazy fusion of Wolverine and Deadpool. The entire visual of the fleshy Deadpool fused to Wolverine’s back and Logan having to fight that way was what made this issue.

Adding to all this is how Kelly adjusted the dialogue to let the comedy come from the visual Kubert created. Kelly didn’t try to have Deadpool create a lot of jokes out of their situation. Instead, he knew how this situation was one where he just needed Wolverine to chill. A more serious Deadpool made the entire situation much funnier because the comedic focus was on the visuals.

And that is really where this series was honestly at its best. Kelly just let Kubert do his thing by delivering a lot of great choreography. This entire issue is a reminder of how Kubert really can be considered the best Wolverine artist. The way he choreographs every fight Wolverine gets into screams “The best there is at what I do.” The berserker rage Wolverine energy fights is something Kubert has just mastered.

The artwork being so good does make up for the ending we get not to be the focus. Because honestly the way this series wraps just sort of ends. It does feel as though Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII was supposed to be a four-issue mini-series. The feeling that an issue was cut from the series order made the ending feel very abrupt.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #3 gives readers exactly what they are looking for from a comic book adventure involving these two lead characters. The chemistry between Wolverine and Deadpool shines through. It is all carried by the excellent artwork from Adam Kubert, who reminds us all that no one draws a Wolverine comic book like him. If you’re looking to get a comic book to read to feed further into the Deadpool & Wolverine hype this comic book delivers on that.
