G.I. JOE had a successful debut issue this past week. The creative team of Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, and Jordie Bellaire utilized everything built up in the Energon Universe to present the G.I. JOE in all new ways. Now after their debut issue Skybound and Image Comics has provided us with a first look at G.I. JOE #2 to share ahead of it’s December 18, 2024. Be warned there will be spoilers for the first issue if you have not read G.I. JOE #1.

G.I. JOE #1 delivered plenty of surprises, especially with the final page. The surprises appear to be continuing with the second issue. That is something teased in the solicitation for the upcoming comic book:

Cobra Commander unveils the next phase of his plan–meet THE VALKYRIES, the newest Cobra special operatives unit. And as they race to retrieve the mysterious new weapon, will Duke suffer his first failure as the leader of G.I. Joe? 

The main cover for G.I. JOE #2 is going to be handled by the series artist Tom Reilly. Additionally, variant covers will also be available from artists David Finch, Danny Miki & Dave McCaig, David Nakayama, Travis Moore & Adriano Lucas, Otto Schmidt, Derrick Chew, and Jorge Corona & Mike Spicer. Check out the covers and three-page preview below:

Meet The Cobra Valkyries! Your First Look at G.I. JOE #2 from Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly & Jordie Bellaire

LOS ANGELES 11/14/2024 — Today Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with leading toy and game company Hasbro, revealed interior pages and the stacked lineup of variant covers for G.I. JOE #2. From the chart-topping, critically acclaimed creative team of writer Joshua Williamson (DukeCobra Commander), artist Tom Reilly (Duke) and colorist Jordie Bellaire (DukeW0rldtr33), the new issue of the comic book that promises to introduce a bold new vision of G.I. Joe and Cobra to the Energon Universe will hit comic books shelves on December 18, 2024.

In addition to the main cover by Reilly, G.I. JOE #2 will feature an open-to-order variant cover by David Finch, Danny Miki & Dave McCaig; the continuation of the 1:10 incentive connecting cover series by David Nakayama; a 1:25 incentive variant by Travis Moore & Adriano Lucas; a 1:50 incentive variant by Otto Schmidt; a 1:100 foil incentive variant by Derrick Chew; and a 1:250 incentive variant by Jorge Corona & Mike Spicer.

The new series will become another tentpole of the Energon Universe, the crown jewel of the historic collaboration between Hasbro and Skybound, who has introduced a brand-new era of the TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE franchises in one shared comic book universe. Energon Universe titles include the ongoing series Void Rivals by writer Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead), artist Lorenzo De Felici (Kroma), and colorist Patricio Delpeche (The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country) and the two-time Eisner Award winning TRANSFORMERS by writer Daniel Warren Johnson (ExtremityDo a Powerbomb), artist Jorge Corona (Middlewest), and colorist Mike Spicer (Stillwater, Murder Falcon). The Energon Universe also includes G.I. JOE miniseries Duke, from Joshua Williamson , Tom Reilly and Jordie Bellaire; Cobra Commander from Joshua Williamson, Andrea Milana (Impact Winter: Rook) and Annalisa Leoni (Oblivion Song); Scarlettfrom writer Kelly Thompson (Black Widow, Birds of Prey), artist Marco Ferrari (Frontiersman), and colorist Lee Loughridge (I Hate This Place, Killadelphia); and Destrofrom writer Dan Watters (Loki, Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!), artist Andrei Bressan (Dark Ride, Birthright), and colorist Adriano Lucas (Dark Ride, Birthright), which introduce the iconic characters of the G.I. JOE and Cobra factions to the Energon Universe. Fans should expect can’t-miss moments from every issue of the Energon Universe, as secrets are unveiled along the path to answering the BIG questions from some of the biggest franchises in comics today.
