Energon Universe Preview: Scarlett #5

With the launch of G.I. JOE #1 right around the corner there are still a few things to wrap up before then. One of them is the conclusion of writer Kelly Thompsonartist Marco Ferrari, and colorist Lee Loughridge Scarlett series. Ahead of Scarlett #5, the final issue of the mini-series, Skybound and Image Comics has provided us with a preview of to share of the October 9th release.

Scarlett #5 will define not just where Shana “Scarlett” O’Hara but also where Jinx and Storm Shadow could be when G.I. JOE launches in November. Scarlett, Jinx, and Storm Shadow are noticeably absent from the G.I. JOE #1 covers and announcement. The fate of those tied to Clan Arashikage is further teased in the solicitation for the October issue:

First Look: The Future of the Energon Universe Will Change Forever in the SCARLETT Finale

LOS ANGELES 09/13/2024 — Today Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with leading toy and game company Hasbro, revealed an impressive lineup of variant covers and interior pages from Scarlett #5, the final issue of the G.I. JOE miniseries from the superstar team of writer Kelly Thompson (Black Widow, Birds of Prey), artist Marco Ferrari (Frontiersman), and colorist Lee Loughridge (I Hate This Place, Killadelphia). Scarlett #5 hits comic book shops on October 9, 2024.

Everything that Scarlett, Storm Shadow, and Jinx have been planning comes to a head. And the future of the Energon Universe will change forever. The road to G.I. JOE #1 (in stores November 13) ends here!

Scarlett #5 will feature a main cover by Ferrari, along with a stacked lineup of variant covers including an open to order cover by Siya Oum (Batman Beyond), the final cover in the 1:10 incentive connecting cover series by Gleb Melnikov (Robin), a 1:25 incentive variant by Vasco Georgiev (Batman: Urban Legends), and a 1:50 incentive variant by Taurin Clarke (Captain America). 

Rounding out the lineup of four action-packed G.I. JOE miniseries that introduce the iconic characters of the G.I. Joe and Cobra teams to the Energon Universe, Scarlett joins Duke by Joshua Williamson (SupermanDark Ride), Tom Reilly (The Thing) and Jordie Bellaire (W0rldtr33), Cobra Commander from writer Joshua Williamson, artist Andrea Milana (Impact Winter: Rook) and colorist Annalisa Leoni (Oblivion Song), and Destro by writer Dan Watters (Loki, Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!), artist Andrei Bressan (Dark Ride, Birthright), and colorist Adriano Lucas (Dark Ride, Nightwing). These miniseries set the stage for a fresh new take on G.I. Joe, Cobra and the iconic characters that you only think you know!

Scarlett is a series within the Energon Universe, a cornerstone of the historic collaboration between Hasbro and Skybound, with TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE comics finding a new home with the publisher to introduce a brand-new era for these landmark franchises in one shared universe.
