Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 16

Gaara Rescue Arc 2.0 Begins In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has continuously been escalating things as the God Trees group have made a major impact on the series. With how the story has been paced thus far it made Chapter 16, titled “The Singularity of Fate,” slowed things down. It wasn’t a slow down to pause things. Rather after fifteen chapters of so much going on “The Singularity of Fate” provided a lot of context and expanded on various sub-plots. In the process it acted as the transition chapter for the next big story arc for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

By the end of Two Blue Vortex Chapter 16 we got the official start to the next story arc for the series. That story is none other than the sequel to the Kazekage Rescue story arc we had way back Naruto: Shippuden first story arc. Gaara certainly does appear to not have the best of luck when it comes to the post-timeskip period of the Naruto franchises.

The two rescue missions may be set decades apart but the similarities to how Gaara is being saved are almost identical. We have the Team 7 crew of Konohamaru Sarutobi, Sarada Uchiha, and Mitsuki deployed to save Gaara. As soon as they start their mission they meet up with Araya and Yodo, the remaining members of Shinki’s team. The combined Konoha and Sunagakure teams then are facing off against two newest members of the humanoid God Trees in Matsuri and Ryu.

With all the similarities Gaara has to hope that Team 7 and Team Shinki are able to save him like he was saved back in Shippuden. It would be a massive blow if Gaara is killed with how important he is to the world. Gaara has also proven to be a key ally for Naruto’s family with Himawari Uzumaki in similar danger, though currently protected. So if he survives this story than he could go on to serve a key part of what follow-up by playing a bigger part in the Two Blue Vortex series.

BORUTO’S FLYING RAIJIN JUTSU ORIGIN

One of the coolest developments we had in Two Blue Vortex is when Boruto Uzumaki showed that he developed his own Flying Raijin Jutsu technique. First shown in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #4, Boruto showcased he had been able to use the technique that his grandfather, Minato Namikaze, mastered. It has been a technique that has come in clutch for Boruto several times during the early parts of Two Blue Vortex and will no doubt continue to.

But now with the chapter known as “The Singularity of Fate,” it was revealed that Boruto’s Flying Raijin Jutsu is a technique inspired by Minato’s space-time jutsu rather than being the exact same. With the Flying Thunder God Technique, Minato utilized specific markings he left on objects or people to teleport to them using holding something with a duplicate marking, usually a kunai.  Since Boruto doesn’t has not spent time utilizing seals his version, Flying Raijin Jutsu, instead has him leave traces of his own chakra on metal objects that he can detect and teleport to.

An interesting note is that this version of the Flying Raijin Jutsu is something Boruto would’ve learned in the future to do in the original unaltered timeline. This was something revealed by Koji Kashin, who mentions it took Boruto six years to develop the Flying Raijin Jutsu. Thanks to revealing the secret behind how a version of him learned it in the future Boruto was able to learn the Flying Raijin Jutsu during the three-year Blank Period.

This development certainly puts over Boruto’s unique talent to be able to combine the massive chakra reserve he inherited from his father to create a technique inspired by his grandfather. It also further puts into question Koji’s full motivation. Koji previously mentioned that revealing even the smallest detail about a potential future he foresaw places them on a new unknown timeline. This hints that Koji saw there is more for them to benefit from Boruto learning the Flying Raijin Jutsu much earlier. It puts into question what bigger things Koji has seen that required Boruto to learn the specific jutsus he has now.

DRAMA BREWING BETWEEN SARADA UCHIHA & SUMIRE KAKEI

A development that was both expected and unexpected was the quickly rising tension between Sarada Uchiha and Sumire Kakei. Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto have not hidden the fact that Boruto and Sarada relationship is extremely close. Though they haven’t said out loud they like each other in a romantic sense, all the hints are pointing to possibly happening in the future.

A wrench has now been thrown in the fact that Sumire told Sarada and Ada that she likes Boruto romantically. Sumire didn’t simply admit her love for Boruto. She did it while calling out how Sarada is consistently by Boruto’s side anytime he shows up, even having moments where she hugs him. While Sumire stops this part of the conversation from progressing it is clear she wanted to know whether Sarada likes Boruto romantically or just as a friend.

Kishimoto and Ikemoto spotlighting the romantic interests Boruto has is not something that has been a big part of the series. The only obvious romantic angle that has gotten time in both Boruto’s series is Ada’s attraction to Boruto and Kawaki. For attention to be brought to Sarada and Sumire’s romantic interest in Boruto it establishes this will be a key part of Two Blue Vortex.

This also adds a wrinkle into Sarada’s growth as a character. Because the romantic angle isn’t the only thing Sumire brings up. Sumire straight up tells Sarada to stop calling her Class Rep. In a way Sumire calls out Sarada for being stuck in he past rather than moving forward. That is something we have seen with Sarada a lot as she is still focus on getting back to their original timeline. Sarada moving on from being stuck in the past will be a major mental development for her character. Something that could be important to how she could defeat Hidari and save her father. Which could factor into Sarada being part of the rescue mission to save Gaara.

WHOSE SIDE IS ADA ON?

Through all of this we see Ada has a hand in knowing what is going on with every character. Or at the very least she has an idea of what Boruto, Kawaki, Koji, Sarada, Sumika, and Shikamaru are up to. She has a wide variety of interactions with everyone. This brings up how Ada is the reason Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 16 is titled “The Singularity of Fate.” Ada, Koji, and Boruto are identified as Singularities to the fate of the world. This is something that Koji specifically points out to both Boruto and Ada.

On Ada’s front we see this to be very much true because of her knowledge of so many different characters. This adds to the importance of Ada’s decision to keep so much of what she knows a secret. Specifically, even though she knows about where Boruto is and what he is doing she is not sharing that information with Kawaki. This further points to how Ada, while working with him, isn’t fully supportive of Kawaki’s actions.

It all brings to question what role Ada will be serving as Two Blue Vortex will play out. She is in danger with Mamushi, one the humanoid God Trees, looking to consume her. It will be in her best interest to stay on everyone’s good side. Which is apparent that she is doing with how she interacted with Boruto, Koji, Sarada, Sumika, and Shikamaru throughout this latest chapter.
