Gaara Status Quo Revealed In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 15

Each new chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has been throwing new wrinkles into the story. The sense of escalation has been the strength of this sequel to the original Boruto series. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 15 continued that trend with possibly the most development we’ve had across the board for the series. The chapter saw Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto juggle many different angles when it comes to how the Ten Tails’ God Trees group mission. The ramifications of these developments can be far and wide for the world Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is set in.

Back in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 13 part of Koji Kashin future visions was the God Trees group having five members. That meant there was still at least one more person that would be captured and have their chakra used for a new God Tree. That mystery was answered with Two Blue Vortex Chapter 14 ending with the creation of Ryu. While the name of the last God Tree member was answered we didn’t know who he is based from like the other members.

That is something that was then answered in Two Blue Vortex Chapter 15 opening that showed while battling the God Tree Matsuri, Gaara tried to protect his adopted son Shinki and Shinki’s teammates. This left Gaara to be ganged up by and severely injured by Matsuri and an army of Claw Grimes. To save his adopted father Shinki sealed Gaara in his Magnetic Particle Barrier Palm technique, leaving Gaara locked up in a suspended state. This was enough to catch Matsuri’s attention and capture Shinki in a tree to be used for the creation of Ryu.

The creation of Ryu continued the trend by Kishimoto and Ikemoto to take some of the most powerful characters from the original Naruto series off the table. Similar to Naruto and Hinata, we saw Gaara placed into a suspended state that can only be accessed by one person. This does put into question if we will see the God Trees target any other powerful characters to turn into one of them. Koji’s vision only showed five members on the sentient God Trees group.

Given the trend of taking Naruto, Hinata, Sasuke, and Gaara off the table it wouldn’t be surprising if Kishimoto and Ikemoto could continue down this route. Because, while Koji only saw five members in the sentient God Trees in his visions it doesn’t mean we aren’t in a future timeline he hasn’t seen. Because of the how Boruto has used Koji’s knowledge to his advantage it could cause the God Trees to continue to grow their numbers.

SHIKAMARU & KANKURO MAKE A DANGEROUS SECRET PACK

Keeping secrets is the way of life, especially in the Naruto Universe. We saw throughout the original Naruto series the main cast dealing with the ramifications of all the secrets kept by the previous generation. That is something that Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is continuing. But whereas in Naruto is was largely the secondary characters that were in the shadows until they were brought to the forefront this time it is our main cast keeping secrets from one another.

This was once again seen in Two Blue Vortex Chapter 15 with Kankuro revealing to his brother-in-law Shikamaru what happened to Gaara. That alone isn’t anything to cause red flags. What was a red flag was that Kankuro wants Shikamaru to keep what happened to Gaara from Tenmari. Kankuro does this with the best intentions of his big sister in mind as he knows Tenmari would not hesitate to drop everything and save their little brother.

Tenmari being kept in the dark by her husband and brother is certainly something to watch play out. This also extends to how long Kankuro and Shikamaru can keep Gaara’s situation a secret from the rest of the world. The Good Trees are too big of a threat to keep such a secret from their other allies. But because of the unique threat the God Trees pose one wrong move by Kankuro or Shikamaru can be disastrous for the world.

Unfortunately for them it looks like we are headed into a story arc that will be focused on saving Gaara. That is because whereas Naruto and Hinata’s situation where the God Trees don’t have an immediate answer for that is not the case with Gaara. Thanks to Ryu being made from Shinki’s chakra the new sentient God Tree could have the ability to break the seal created by Magnetic Particle Barrier Palm. With Ryu’s devouring target being Gaara it places Gaara as the character in the most immediate danger.

This in turn leads to the secret Shikamaru and Kankuro trying to maintain between them something that could be impossible. The God Trees already proved overwhelmingly powerful that it took the combined efforts of Boruto, Sarada, Konohamaru, and Kawaki to defeat Hidari. And unlike Boruto, the rest of the world does not have the knowledge or experience to take on the God Trees. That makes the decisions Shikamaru and Kankuro make from here even more important. If they don’t provide proper warning or set-up the capture of Gaara will be the least of their concerns.

CODE PUNKED OUT BY THE GOD TREES

Boruto vs Code - Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 3

Boruto no doubt got a massive power upgrade through all the secret training he went through during the blank period years. The same can’t be said for other characters as everyone in Konoha needed Boruto to save them. Two characters who have been specifically been in the spotlight for no longer being on Boruto’s level are Kawaki and Code. That is something that was emphasized in Two Blue Vortex Chapter 15.

This spotlight started with Code who was quickly detected and detained by Ryu soon after being born. While code was able to break free he was quickly defeated by Ryu, losing an arm in the process. After being mocked by the Ryu and Mamushi, Code could do nothing but run away while desperately trying to maintain his image of being the big bad of the series.

This was no doubt a massive stepdown for Code, who in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations was positioned as one of the most powerful characters. But now after being defeated so easily by Boruto and Ryu at the beginning of Two Blue Vortex it’s clear that he is nowhere near the top of powerful characters. The downgrade for Code does point to the villain having become complacent during the blank periods. We’ve seen throughout his appearances in Two Blue Vortex Code was still doing the same old same with his attack approach.

With Code punked out by several characters in the early stages of Two Blue Vortex he will need a series power upgrade to match Boruto and the God Trees. That is something Kishimoto and Ikemoto already set up to happen as Boruto and Kawaki spoke in secret about the latter needing to unlock his powers. To do that Kawaki would need to go to Amado Sanzu to unlock that power. Which so happens to be the person Code also needs to release his limiters. This now places even more importance on Amado as a key character for Kawaki and Code.

All of these developments Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 15 sets the stage for things to continue to escalate in ways that will challenge everyone in this series.
