July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

It is time to check out the July 2024 comic book sales rankings. Things are getting murkier in terms of actual unit numbers. So, we must settle with going to ICv2 for their Top 200 sales rankings. It is not as good as actual unit numbers, but we must work with what we get.

Remember that the Top 200 sales rankings are based on sales tracked at point-of-sale by the ComicHub system at over 125 local comic book shops selling American comics. These sales rankings represent sales to consumers by local comic shops.

The data for the July 2024 comic book sales rankings was collected based on a four-week month, from July 7 – August 3, 2024.

July 2024 Comic Books Sales Rankings

The Battle for the Top 10

Marvel Comics placed eight comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were up from the six comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 10 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also up as Marvel Comics had seven comics in the Top 10 in July 2023. However, numbers were flat from two years ago as Marvel Comics also had eight comics in the Top 10 in July 2022.

Marvel Comics continues to show a great diversity of franchises in their Top 10 success. Marvel Comics drew upon the X-Men franchise, the Spider-Man franchise, and the Ultimate Universe franchise for their Top 10 comics.

Image Comics placed one comic in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were down from the two comics that Image Comics had in the Top 10 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in July 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in July 2022.

As always, Image Comics’ Top 10 issue comes from the Hasbro license.

IDW Publishing placed one comic in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were up from the zero comics that IDW Publishing had in the Top 10 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 10 in July 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 10 in July 2022.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 had a monster debut scoring the number 2 spot. 1980s franchises continue to perform exceptionally well in 2024. IDW Publishing would be dead and floating belly up in a river without this lucrative and believed franchise.

DC Comics placed zero comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were down from the two comics that DC Comics had in the Top 10 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also down as DC Comics had three comics in the Top 10 in July 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had two comics in the Top 10 in July 2022.

Just when you thought there was no way that DC Comics could embarrass themselves any more than they have over the past five years they managed to find a way to do so! DC Comics failed to get a single issue in the Top 10. It is one thing to lose in the Top 10 to Marvel Comics every single month of every single year. But, to lose to Image Comics and IDW Publishing in the Top 10? DC Comics keeps finding new lows.

The Battle for the Top 25

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 11-25 range typically sell in the 65,000 to 50,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed seventeen comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were up from the fifteen comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 25 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Marvel Comics had sixteen comics in the Top 25 in July 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had fifteen comics in the Top 25 in July 2022.

The rollout of so many #1 issues in the X-Men franchise pushed Marvel Comics to new heights. This will be temporary, but Marvel Comics received that predictable sales bump that comes with restarting an entire line of comics. It’s always a quick and easy cash grab.

Daredevil #11 climbed from the number 48 spot to the number 22 spot. Daredevil has become unpredictable in the sales chart under Saladin Ahmed’s hand. Hopefully, this title can find some stability and stay in the Top 25. Daredevil used to be a rock-solid Top 25 title for Marvel Comics.

DC Comics placed five comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were up/down/flat from the six comics that DC Comics had in the Top 25 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up/down/flat as DC Comics had eight comics in the Top 25 in July 2023. Numbers were up/down/flat from two years ago as DC Comics had eight comics in the Top 25 in July 2022.

Image Comics placed two comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were down from the three comics that Image Comics had in the Top 25 in June 2024. However, year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 25 in July 2023. Numbers were flat from two years ago as Image Comics also had two comics in the Top 25 in July 2022.

As we have come to expect, both of Image Comics’ titles in the Top 25 were from the Hasbro license.

IDW Publishing placed one comic in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were flat from the one comics that IDW Publishing had in the Top 25 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as IDW Publishing had one comic in the Top 25 in July 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 25 in July 2022.

The Battle for the Top 50

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 26-50 range typically sell in the 49,000 to 30,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed twenty-six comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were down from the thirty-one comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 50 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also down as Marvel Comics had thirty-one comics in the Top 50 in July 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as Marvel Comics had twenty-nine comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

This is fascinating. Marvel Comics is losing market share compared to a year ago and two years ago. But, what makes this so interesting is that Marvel Comics is not losing that market share to the competitor we would most likely imagine: DC Comics. We know this because DC Comics is down compared to a year ago and two years ago. Instead, Marvel Comics is losing market share to smaller publishers like Image Comics, IDW Publishing, and Dynamite Entertainment powered by strong licenses.

Vengeance of the Moon Knight #7 dipped from the 44 spot to the number 47 spot. This title has managed to notch back-to-back Top 50 finishes after Vengeance of the Moon Knight #5 came in at the number 67 spot.

DC Comics placed thirteen comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the eleven comics that DC Comics had in the Top 50 in June 2024. However, year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics had fifteen comics in the Top 50 in July 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had fourteen comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Image Comics placed five comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the four comics that Image Comics had in the Top 50 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also up as Image Comics had two comics in the Top 50 in July 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Image Comics had four comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Three of Image Comics’ five comics came from the Hasbro franchise. Two of Image Comics’ five comics came from Geoff Johns’ Ghost Machine franchise. Image Comics would be in huge trouble without these two franchises.

Boom! Studios placed two comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the zero comics that Boom! Studios had in the Top 50 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also up as Boom! Studios had one comic in the Top 50 in July 2023. However, numbers were down from two years ago as Boom! Studios had three comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

BRZRKR A Faceful of Bullets #1 had a mid debut taking the number 41 spot. Given the popularity of this franchise, I was expecting a much higher debut number for this comic. This debut number is also more evidence of Jason Aaron having streaky sales success these days.

IDW Publishing placed two comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were flat from the two comics that IDW Publishing had in the Top 50 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as IDW Publishing had one comic in the Top 50 in July 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 40th Ann. Comics Celebration grabbed the number 28 spot. To no surprise, both IDW Publishing comics in the Top 50 came from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.

Dynamite Entertainment placed one comic in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were down from the two comics that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 50 in June 2024. However, year-over-year numbers were up as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 50 in July 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

ThunderCats #6 dipped from the number 49 spot to the number 50 spot. ThunderCats is still a Top 50 comic! This is awesome! I did not expect ThunderCats to remain in the Top 50 by the sixth issue. ThunderCats, ho, indeed!

This means that classic 1980s franchises account for six comics in the Top 50! And all six titles from publishers outside of Marvel Comics and DC Comics. This is great to see.

Oni Press had one comic in the Top 50.

The Battle for the Top 75

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 51-75 range typically sell in the 29,000 to 25,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed forty comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were down by a wide margin from the forty-seven comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 75 in June 2024. However, year-over-year numbers were up as Marvel Comics had thirty-eight comics in the Top 75 in July 2023. On the other hand, numbers were way down from two years ago as Marvel Comics had forty-six comics in the Top 75 in July 2022.

DC Comics placed eighteen comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the fifteen comics that DC Comics had in the Top 75 in June 2024. However, year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics had twenty-five comics in the Top 75 in July 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had nineteen comics in the Top 75 in July 2022.

Image Comics placed ten comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the eight comics that Image Comics had in the Top 75 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also up as Image Comics had six comics in the Top 75 in July 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Image Comics had seven comics in the Top 75 in July 2022.

Eight of Image Comics’ ten issues in the Top 75 came from the Hasbro franchise, the Ghost Machine franchise, and the Universal Monsters license. Without these valuable franchises, Image Comics would have had only two issues in the Top 75.

Universal Monsters the Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives #4 rose from the number 67 spot to the number 58 spot. This was an impressive finish for this four-issue mini-series as it climbed up in the rankings over the past two months from Universal Monsters the Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives #2 at the number 78 spot. This is something rarely seen for a four-issue mini-series.

Feral #5 took the number 69 spot.

BOOM! Studios placed three comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that BOOM! Studios had in the Top 75 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also up as BOOM! Studios had two comics in the Top 75 in July 2023. However. numbers were down from two years ago as BOOM! Studios had four comics in the Top 75 in July 2022.

IDW Publishing placed two comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were flat from the two comics that IDW Publishing had in the Top 75 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as IDW Publishing had three comics in the Top 75 in July 2023. However, numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 75 in July 2022.

Dynamite Entertainment placed one comic in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were down from the two comics that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 75 in June 2024. However, year-over-year numbers were up as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 75 in July 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 75 in July 2022.

Oni Press had one comic in the Top 75.

The Battle for the Top 100

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 76-100 range typically sell in the 24,000 to 18,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed fifty-one comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were down by a wide margin from the sixty-one comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 100 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also down as Marvel Comics had fifty-four comics in the Top 100 in July 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as Marvel Comics had fifty-eight comics in the Top 100 in July 2022.

This must be alarming that the month that Marvel Comics kicked off a ton of new X-Men franchise titles their numbers in the Top 100 are down dramatically from a month ago, a year ago, and two years ago. The year-over-year losses and the two-year losses are not due to any gains by DC Comics. DC Comics is also down in their year-over-year numbers and their two-year numbers.

Marvel Comics is losing market share to the myriad of smaller publishers who have been augmented by various valuable licenses to older properties from the 1980s and even older like Universal Monsters. This is no surprise as I have found myself far more excited by the Hasbro franchise comics, ThunderCats, Space Ghost, Conan, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles than anything being published by Marvel Comics.

DC Comics placed twenty-four comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the eighteen comics that DC Comics had in the Top 100 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down by a wide margin as DC Comics had thirty comics in the Top 100 in July 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had twenty-seven comics in the Top 100 in July 2022.

Image Comics placed fourteen comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were down from the sixteen comics that Image Comics had in the Top 100 in June 2024. However, year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had eight comics in the Top 100 in July 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Image Comics had nine comics in the Top 100 in July 2022.

Titan Comics placed three comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the zero comics that Titan Comics had in the Top 100 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also up as Titan Comics had one comic in the Top 100 in July 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Titan Comics had zero comics in the Top 100 in July 2022.

Titan Comics continues to have wonderful success with the Conan license. Savage Sword of Conan #3 came in the number 85 spot. Incredibly, this six-issue mini-series is still in the Top 100.

Conan the Barbarian #13 took the number 96 spot. Again, I would have never thought that Conan the Barbarian would still be in the Top 100 a full year after it debuted. This is impressive.

Gun Honey Collision Course #3 climbed from the number 109 spot to the number 91 spot. This is more amazing work by Titan Comics. Gun Honey Collision Course being able to get back into the Top 100 is a real accomplishment. It is also phenomenal that Gun Honey can outsell big-name female lead titles like Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Spider-Woman, Captain Marvel, and Ms. Marvel. Titan Comics should be proud.

BOOM! Studios placed three comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that BOOM! Studios had in the Top 100 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also up as BOOM! Studios had two comics in the Top 100 in July 2023. However, numbers were down from two years ago as BOOM! Studios had five comics in the Top 100 in July 2022.

Dynamite Entertainment placed two comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were flat from the two comics that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 100 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also flat as Dynamite Entertainment had two comics in the Top 100 in July 2023. However, numbers were up from two years ago as Dynamite Entertainment had one comic in the Top 100 in July 2022.

Powerpuff Girls #1 had an unimpressive debut taking the number 83 spot. I was expecting more from this late 1990s franchise. But, Kelly Thompson is the writer and she has no history of substantive sales success. So, my expectations for this issue were muted. We shall see how the next two issues of this three-issue mini-series perform. The Powerpuff Girls is a wonderful franchise that is quite popular. Maybe we see a rebound in the rankings.

IDW Publishing placed two comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were flat from the two comics that IDW Publishing had in the Top 100 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as IDW Publishing had three comics in the Top 100 in July 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had one comic in the Top 100 in July 2022.

Oni Press had one comic in the Top 100.

The Joshua Williamson Award For The Writer With The Most Titles In The Top 50

The battle for the coveted Joshua Williamson Award was rather lively in July 2024! Multiple writers had two issues in the Top 50.

Phillip Kennedy Johnson had two issues with a one-shot and an ongoing title with Incredible Hulk #14 at the number 14 spot and Hulk: Blood Hunt #1 at the number 44 spot.

Stephanie Phillips had an ongoing title and a one-shot in the Top 50 with Phoenix #1 at the number 7 spot and X-Men: Blood Hunt – Laura Kinney the Wolverine #1 at the number 27 spot.

Zeb Wells had two issues from the same title in the Top 50 with Amazing Spider-Man #53 at the number 4 spot and Amazing Spider-Man #54 at the number 19 spot.

Mark Waid had two issues with one ongoing title and one mini-series in the Top 50 with Absolute Power #1 at the number 23 spot and Batman Superman World’s Finest #29 at the number 42 spot.

Tom Taylor had two issues with one ongoing title and one mini-series with Dark Knights of Steel Allwinter #1 at the number 25 spot and Nightwing #116 at the number 32 spot.

Ryan North had two issues with two ongoing titles with Fantastic Four #22 at the number 40 spot and Captain America #11 at the number 43 spot.

Geoff Johns had two issues with two ongoing titles with Geiger #4 at the number 46 spot and Rook Exodus #4 at the number 49 spot.

One writer had three issues in the Top 50 in July 2024.

Jason Aaron had three issues with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 at the number 2 spot, BRZRKR A Faceful of Bullets #1 at the number 41 spot, and Namor #1 at the number 48 spot.

However, one writer ruled over all with five issues in the Top 50 in July 2024.

Jed MacKay had five issues with X-Men #1 at the number 1 spot, Avengers #16 at the number 18 spot, Blood Hunt: Red Band #5 at the number 24 spot, Blood Hunt #5 at the number 39 spot, and Vengeance of the Moon Knight #7 at the number 47 spot.

Therefore, the winner of the Joshua Williamson Award for July 2024 is…Jed MacKay! MacKay will have to purchase a new bookcase to hold all the Joshua Williamson Awards he keeps winning!

Battle of the Franchises

The X-Men franchise took first place with five comics in the Top 10, six comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50.

The Avengers franchise took second place with one comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50.

The Batman franchise took third place with zero comics in the Top 10, one comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50.

The Spider-Man franchise took fourth place with two comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50.

The Ultimate Universe took fifth place with three comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50.

This is a big shakeup in the Battle of the Franchises. We have not seen the Spider-Man franchise this low in the battle results in a very long time.

As usual, we will address these various debut issues in their respective franchise sections below.

I do want to touch on a couple of debut issues now.

Marvel & Disney What If…? Donald Duck Became Wolverine #1 scoring the number 33 spot. I love the classic Disney characters in Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and the rest. So, it is pretty cool to see a Donald Duck comic in the Top 50 in 2024!

Witchblade #1 only scored the number 60 spot. I am curious to see how this new take on Witchblade performs. Witchblade was extremely popular in the 1990s. But, back then Witchblade leaned heavily on phenomenal sexy artwork to drive its sales. It will be interesting to see what take on Witchblade we get now in 2024 and if it proves to be popular with readers.

Big Events

Blood Hunt

18 Avengers #16 (Blood Hunt)

24 Blood Hunt: Red Band #5 (Blood Hunt)

27 X-Men: Blood Hunt – Laura Kinney the Wolverine #1 (Blood Hunt)

39 Blood Hunt #5 (Blood Hunt)

40 Fantastic Four #22 (Blood Hunt)

44 Hulk: Blood Hunt #1 (Blood Hunt)

47 Vengeance of the Moon Knight #7 (Blood Hunt)

55 Wolverine: Blood Hunt #3 (Blood Hunt)

56 Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #3 (Blood Hunt)

68 Wolverine Blood Hunt #4 (Blood Hunt)

82 Blood Hunters #4 (Blood Hunt)

90 Dracula: Blood Hunt #3 (Blood Hunt)

103 Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #3 (Blood Hunt)

106 Strange Academy Blood Hunt #3 (Blood Hunt)

107 Union Jack the Ripper: Blood Hunt #3 (Blood Hunt)

116 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #22 (Blood Hunt)  (Resolicitation)

137 Blood Hunt #4 (Blood Hunt)  (Resolicitation)

138 Doctor Strange #17 (Blood Hunt)  (Resolicitation)

150 X-Men: Blood Hunt – Psylocke #1 (Blood Hunt)  (Resolicitation)

183 Blood Hunt: Red Band #4 (Blood Hunt)  (Resolicitation)

197 Vengeance of the Moon Knight #6 (Blood Hunt)  (Resolicitation)

199 Werewolf By Night: Blood Hunt #1 (Blood Hunt)  (Resolicitation)

Blood Hunt had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50. This was worse in the Top 10 and Top 25 but better in the Top 50 than in June 2024 when Blood Hunt had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50.

Blood Hunt: Red Band #5 took the number 24 spot which was the exact same ranking Blood Hunt: Red Band #4 took in June 2024. Consistency is great, but this is too low for a Marvel big event comic. With this issue, this Marvel Comics big event has concluded. All in all, Blood Hunt: Red Band was a sales success for Marvel Comics.

Blood Hunt #5 fell from the number 34 spot to the number 39 spot. Again, this is the final issue of this big event. Blood Hunt started strong but faded in teh rankings with the final two issues. Seeing a big event title selling outside of the Top 25 is never great. However, to be fair, Blood Hunt had to compete with a largely identical comic only with more gore in Blood Hunt: Red Band. So, it makes sense that the titles might cannibalize sales from the other.

X-Men: Blood Hunt – Laura Kinney the Wolverine #1 had an average debut taking the number 27 spot. This was another of the numerous X-Men: Blood Hunt one-shot issues that we have gotten during this event.

Blood Hunters #4 climbed from the number 142 spot to the number 82 spot. With this issue, Blood Hunters has concluded. This mini-series was a sales dud.

Dracula: Blood Hunt #3 ticked up from the number 99 spot to the number 90 spot. With this issue, this three-issue mini-series has concluded. This mini-series was a sales failure. This was predictable as Danny Lore has never had any sales success.

Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #3 dropped from the number 76 spot to the number 103 spot. With this issue, this three-issue mini-series has concluded. This mini-series had a poor debut number and could not avoid concluding as a dead title walking. Bryan Hill continues to struggle to have any sales success outside of Ultimate Black Panther.

Strange Academy Blood Hunt #3 ticked up from the number 112 spot to the number 106 spot. With this issue, this three-issue mini-series has concluded. This mini-series was a dead walking title and a sales failure. Everyone other than Marvel’s editorial staff saw this coming. Hiring a YA fiction writer like Daniel Older to write a mainstream superhero comic was one of Marvel’s typical bad ideas.

Union Jack the Ripper: Blood Hunt #3 climbed from the number 148 spot to the number 107 spot. With this issue, this three-issue mini-series has concluded. This mini-series was another sales failure for Marvel Comics. Again, the strange decision of hiring a novelist and magazine/newspaper columnist in Cavan Scott blows up in Marvel Comics’ face.

All in all, the Blood Hunt big event had nice sales success with the two main titles in Blood Hunt and Blood Hunt: Red Band. However, all of the tie-in mini-series were sales failures. This was to be expected as Marvel Comics hired a poor cast of writers to support Jed MacKay’s main event title.

Absolute Power

13 Superman #16 (Absolute Power)

15 Wonder Woman #11 (Absolute Power)

23 Absolute Power #1 (Of 4)  (Resolicitation)

26 Batman #150 (Absolute Power)  (Resolicitation)

29 Absolute Power Task Force VII #1 (Of 7)

37 Green Lantern #13 (Absolute Power)

64 Absolute Power Task Force VII #2 (Of 7)

76 Green Arrow #14 (Absolute Power)

88 Absolute Power Origins #1 (Of 3)

98 Absolute Power Task Force VII #3 (Of 7)

117 Absolute Power Ground Zero #1 (One-Shot)  (Resolicitation)

Absolute Power had zero comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50. This was worse in the Top 10, flat in the Top 25, and better in the Top 50 than in June 2024 when Absolute Power had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50.

Absolute Power Origins #1 had a horrendous debut coming in at the number 88 spot. This three-issue mini-series is a lock to be in the Dead Walking Titles category with the next issue. This is no surprise. The only people truly interested in Amanda Waller’s character anymore are DC Comics’ editorial.

It also did not help that DC Comics hired a Hollywood writer John Ridley to write the comic. This never works out. Ridley continued his trend of failing to have any sales success with mainstream superhero comics.

Absolute Power Task Force VII #1 had an average debut coming in at the number 29 spot. Absolute Power Task Force VII #2 fell to the number 64 spot. Absolute Power Task Force VII #3 dropped to the number 98 spot. This seven-issue mini-series features a different writer with each issue. Readers were not that impressed with this mini-series as it rapidly dropped in the rankings with each issue. This title should conclude in the Dead Walking Titles category.

94 Scarlett #2 (Of 5)  (Resolicitation)

161 Void Rivals #10  (Resolicitation)

179 Scarlett #1 (Of 5)  (Resolicitation)

180 Destro #1 (Of 5)  (Resolicitation)

182 Transformers #9  (Resolicitation)

The Hasbro franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was worse than in June 2024 when the Hasbro franchise had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50.

Transformers #10 remained rock solid taking the number 5 spot which is the same ranking Transformers #4 had in June 2024.

Destro #2 dipped from the number 11 spot to the number 16 spot. That is impressive for this five-issue mini-series! Only dropping five spots in a month where Marvel Comics rolled out four brand new X-Men franchise titles is fantastic. The Energon Universe shows no signs of slowing down.

Void Rivals #11 ticked up from the number 36 spot to the number 31 spot. Image Comics has to be thrilled to see how Void Rivals has built up so much steam in the sales rankings in the past few months. This used to be selling far lower than the other Energon Universe titles.

G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #308 climbed from the number 97 spot to the number 70 spot. Wow, that is a nice rebound for G.I. Joe A Real American Hero to be back in the Top 75. Hopefully, this title can remain in the Top 75 going forward.

Spawn Franchise July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

92 Spawn Kills Every Spawn #1 (Of 5)

112 Spawn Rat City #4

119 Spawn #355

120 King Spawn #36

133 Spawn: Monolith #3 (Of 3)

157 Gunslinger Spawn #33  (Resolicitation)

190 Spawn Misery #2 (Of 4)

Unranked: Sam and Twitch: Case Files #5

The Spawn franchise had zero comics in the Top 50. This was the same as in June 2024 when the Spawn franchise had zero comics in the Top 50.

Spawn Kills Every Spawn #1 had a poor debut coming in at the number 92 spot. This five-issue mini-series looks to be a dead walking title by next month.

Spawn Rat City #4 climbed from the number 147 spot to the number 112 spot. This title seems doomed to stay in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Spawn #355 fell from the number 89 spot to the number 119 spot. This is the third straight month that Spawn has fallen in the rankings. This is a disturbing trend. Hopefully, this title can rebound next month.

King Spawn #36 climbed from the number 153 spot to the number 120 spot. This arrested a two-month slide in the rankings.

Spawn: Monolith #3 climbed from the number 174 spot to teh number 133 spot. With this issue, this three-issue mini-series has concluded. This mini-series was a sales disappointment for the Spawn franchise.

Spawn Misery #2 fell from the number 142 spot to the number 190 spot. It looks like this four-issue mini-series is going to be unranked by next month. This is a title that literally no Spawn fan was asking for.

Sam and Twitch: Case Files #5 was unranked. This is the second straight month this title has been unranked. This title has been a huge swing-and-miss with readers.

Ghost Machine Titles July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

46 Geiger #4

49 Rook Exodus #4

62 Redcoat #4

Ghost Machine had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50. This was better/worse/flat than June 2024 when Ghost Machine had zero comics in the Top 50.

Geiger #4 climbed from the number 54 spot to the number 46 spot. This is a positive sign to see Geiger back in the Top 50.

Rook Exodus #4 climbed from the number 60 spot to the number 49 spot. This is more good news for the Ghost Machine imprint.

Redcoat #4 climbed from the number 80 spot to the number 62 spot.

All in all, this was a good month for Ghost Machine. It will be interesting to see if these titles can continue to make gains in the rankings or at least stay stable going forward.

Star Wars Franchise July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

11 Star Wars: Ahsoka #1

66 Star Wars #48

81 Star Wars Darth Vader #48

110 Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red #4

134 Star Wars: Inquisitors #1  (Resolicitation)

The Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was better than June 2024 when the Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down as the Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in July 2023.

Numbers were down by a wide margin from two years ago as the Star Wars franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Star Wars: Ahsoka #1 had a great debut taking the number 11 spot. This is impressive, especially given the strong competition from all of the brand-new X-Men franchise titles that also debuted this month. Having said that, Rodney Barnes is the writer and he has never had any sales success. Perhaps Ahsoka’s popularity can carry Barnes to his first sales success. We shall see.

Star Wars #48 dipped from the number 64 spot to the number 66 spot. It looks like this title is going to limp to a finish when it concludes with issue #50.

Star Wars Darth Vader #48 fell from the number 72 spot to the number 81 spot. This title is also looking like it is going to slump to a finish when it concludes with issue #50.

Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red #4 fell from the number 85 spot to the number 110 spot. With this issue, this four-issue mini-series has concluded. This title could not avoid the Dead Titles Walking category by the end.

Spider-Man Franchise July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

56 Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #3 (Blood Hunt)

57 Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #3

65 Spider-Boy #9

77 Spider-Man Reign 2 #1  (Resolicitation)

95 Ultimate Spider-Man #6  (Resolicitation)

99 Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 #5

104 Venomverse Reborn #2

113 Venom: Separation Anxiety #3

116 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #22 (Blood Hunt)  (Resolicitation)

129 Amazing Spider-Man #52  (Resolicitation)

131 Spider-Woman #9

132 Venom #35  (Resolicitation)

135 Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 (Infinity Watch)  (Resolicitation)

169 Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin #4

172 Ultimate Spider-Man #5  (Resolicitation)

178 Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #2  (Resolicitation)

The Spider-Man franchise had two comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50. This was worse than June 2024 when the Spider-Man franchise had three comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down by a wide margin as the Spider-Man franchise had two comics in the Top 10, seven comics in the Top 25, and ten comics in the Top 50 in July 2023.

Numbers were flat from two years ago as the Spider-Man franchise had two comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Amazing Spider-Man #53 took the number 4 spot and Amazing Spider-Man #54 took the number 19 spot. This was worse than June 2024 when Amazing Spider-Man #51 took the number 3 spot and Amazing Spider-Man #52 took the number 6 spot.

Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #3 ticked up from the number 57 spot to the number 56 spot. Keep in mind that this title debuted at the number 3 spot! Not even the Amazing Spider-Man branding plus Peter Parker combined with a big event storyline can carry Justina Ireland’s limp body into the Top 50.

Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin #4 fell from the number 117 spot to the number 169 spot. With this issue, this four-issue mini-series has come to an end. This mini-series was a total sales failure for Marvel Comics.

Spectacular Spider-Men #5 climbed from the number 69 spot to the number 45 spot. Seeing this title claw back into the Top 50 is a good sign. It will be interesting to see if this title can remain a consistent Top 50 seller or if we are at the stage where it bobs in and out of the Top 50 each month.

All right, let’s check out the knock-off Spider-Men.

Spider-Boy #9 ticked up from the number 66 spot to the number 65 spot. This is the second straight month that this title has climbed up in the rankings. I do not think we will see Spider-Boy sneak back into the Top 50. But, I do think it has a chance to be a consistent Top 75 seller.

Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 #5 bounced up from the number 125 spot to the number 99 spot. With this issue, this five-issue mini-series came to an end. As a big Miguel O’Hara fan, I am glad to see this title escape the one-month tour of the Dead Titles Walking category and conclude in the Top 100. But, I have to admit that Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 was a sales failure for Marvel Comics.

Let’s look at the Venomverse.

Kid Venom #1 had a nice debut scoring the number 17 spot. I loved this issue. Taigami delivered a fun read with the debut issue of this four-issue mini-series. I love it whenever Marvel Comics hires Japanese mangaka to work on one of their titles. Japanese mangaka are so much more talented in delivering fun superhero stories than most of the American writers currently working for Marvel Comics or DC Comics.

Venomverse Reborn #2 fell from the number 62 spot to the number 104 spot. This four-issue mini-series seems doomed to conclude in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Venom: Separation Anxiety #3 fell from the number 96 spot to the number 113 spot. What a dramatic fall from the number 17 spot this title scored when it debuted. This five-issue mini-series seems a lock to finish in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies from the Spider-Man franchise.

Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #3 fell from the number 52 spot to the number 57 spot. Keep in mind that this title debuted at the number 10 spot. This is about what I expected from a Stephanie Phillips comic book. There is no chance this title gets back into the Top 50. The next few months are going to be all about whether this title can remain a consistent Top 75 seller or not.

Spider-Woman #9 bounced up from the number 184 spot to the number 131 spot. This title continues to be a predictable sales dud.

X-Men Franchise July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

68 Wolverine Blood Hunt #4 (Blood Hunt)

75 X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #3

84 Hellverine #3

162 Deadpool Wolverine: WWIII #2  (Resolicitation)

166 X-Men ’97 #4  (Resolicitation)

170 Ms. Marvel Annual #1 (Infinity Watch)

The X-Men franchise had five comics in the Top 10, six comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50. This was better in the Top 10 and Top 25 but worse in the Top 50 than in June 2024 when the X-Men franchise had two comics in the Top 10, five comics in the Top 25, and nine comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up as the X-Men franchise had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50 in July 2023.

Numbers were also up from two years ago as the X-Men franchise had one comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Let’s begin with the team titles.

X-Men #1 scored a brilliant debut taking the coveted number 1 spot. This issue was powered by eight open-order covers, two reprint covers, two incentive covers, twenty retailer-exclusive covers, and two event-exclusive covers. Sweet baby Jesus, that is an insane number of variant covers! My favorite of these covers would be the J. Scott Campbell Psylocke cover and the Matt Brooks cover. Chef’s kiss to both!

At any rate, I expected nothing less from a brand-new X-Men title from Jed MacKay. This title should remain a consistent Top 10 seller.

NYX #1 snagged a fantastic debut taking the number 8 spot. This issue was powered by five open order covers, two reprint covers, three incentive covers, and four retailer-exclusive covers. My favorite would be the JeeHyung Lee X-23 cover. I love seeing X-23 in her unique costume. Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly are the writers on this title and they have never had any sales success. This could be the title that changes that trend. But, I am not betting on that happening. I am expecting this title to drop in the rankings.

X-Force #1 notched an impressive debut taking the number 10 spot. This issue was powered by six open-order covers, two reprint covers, and two incentive covers. My favorite would be the Chris Allen Stormbreakers cover. Geoffrey Thorne is the writer and he has no track record of sales success. This title also has a weird roster of characters. So, I am not that bullish on this title staying in the Top 25 going forward.

X-Men: Blood Hunt – Laura Kinney the Wolverine #1 had a solid debut coming in at the number 27 spot. This was one of the numerous Blood Hunt one-shots that we have gotten during this big event.

X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #3 bounced from the number 108 spot to the number 75 spot. X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #4 then fell from the number 75 spot to the number 111 spot. With this issue, this four-issue mini-series has concluded. This min-series was a sales disappointment for Marvel Comics.

Deadpool Wolverine WWIII #3 ticked up from the number 18 spot to the number 12 spot. With this issue, this three-issue mini-series has concluded. This title was a huge sales success for Marvel Comics. No surprise there.

Let’s look at the Wolverine titles.

Marvel & Disney What If…? Donald Duck Became Wolverine #1 had a solid debut taking the number 33 spot. This is far higher in the rankings than I would have ever expected for a Donald Duck comic! When have we last seen a classic Walt Disney character this high in the rankings since this comic and the Uncle Scrooge comic from last month? This is pretty wild!

Wolverine: Blood Hunt #3 bounced up from the number 73 spot to the number 55 spot. Wolverine Blood Hunt #4 fell to the number 68 spot. With this issue, this four-issue mini-series came to an end. This mini-series was a solid but not spectacular seller for Marvel Comics.

Hellverine #3 fell from the number 45 spot to the number 84 spot. Keep in mind that this title debuted at the number 8 spot! This four-issue mini-series will have to fight to conclude outside of the Dead Titles Walking category.

Let’s finish up with the ladies of the X-Men franchise.

Phoenix #1 grabbed an excellent debut coming in at the number 7 spot. This issue was powered by seven open-order covers, two reprint covers, three incentive covers, four retailer-exclusive covers, and one event-exclusive cover. That is an eye-watering number of covers! My favorite was the Nathan Szerdy cover.

I predicted that this title would score an impressive debut number. However, Stepanie Phillips has never had any sales success so I am not that bullish on this title remaining a Top 25 seller.

Ms. Marvel Annual #1 had a miserable debut coming in at the number 170 spot. We all knew this would happen since it was written by a Hollywood screenwriter and a Hollywood actor. Always a recipe for failure.

Avengers Franchise July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

3 Ultimates #2

14 Incredible Hulk #14

18 Avengers #16 (Blood Hunt)

20 Ultimate Black Panther #6

43 Captain America #11

44 Hulk: Blood Hunt #1 (Blood Hunt)

51 Immortal Thor #13

61 Invincible Iron Man #20

63 Immortal Thor Annual #1 (Infinity Watch)

67 Scarlet Witch #2

87 Get Fury #3

89 Black Widow: Venomous #1

164 Ultimates #1  (Resolicitation)

171 Ultimate Black Panther #5  (Resolicitation)

Unranked: Captain Marvel #10

The Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50. This was largely flat compared to June 2024 when the Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were flat in the Top 10, up in the Top 25, and flat in the Top 50 as the Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in July 2023.

Numbers were up from two years ago as the Avengers franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Avengers #16 climbed from the number 27 spot to the number 18 spot. This is almost exactly where Avengers #14 was in May 2024. This title has developed a pattern of bouncing in and out of the Top 25.

Let’s look at the dudes of the Avengers franchise.

Incredible Hulk #14 rose from the number 31 spot to the number 14 spot. This was the second straight month this title climbed in the rankings. This title also triumphantly returns to the Top 25. The last time Incredible Hulk was in the Top 25 was back in February 2024 when Incredible Hulk #9 took the number 20 spot.

Hulk: Blood Hunt #1 had an average debut taking the number 44 spot. This was another of the numerous one-shot Blood Hunt tie-in issues.

Captain America #11 rebounded from the number 75 spot to the number 43 spot. This is good news for this title. The last time Captain America was in the Top 50 was when Captain America #6 took the number 50 spot in February 2024. I am not that bullish on this title being able to remain a Top 50 seller, but we shall see!

Immortal Thor #13 fell from the number 38 spot to the number 51 spot. After two months in the Top 50, Immortal Thor finds itself back outside of the Top 50. This title continues to experience some volatility in the sales rankings. Maybe it can settle down over the next few months.

Invincible Iron Man #20 ticked up from the number 63 spot to the number 61 spot. Mr. Emma Frost seems unable to sneak back into the Top 50. But, at least it has remained a consistent Top 75 title.

Get Fury #3 ticked up from the number 88 spot to the number 87 spot. I am starting to feel better about this five-issue mini-series’s chance of finishing in the Top 100.

Let’s wrap up with the dudettes of the Avengers franchise.

Scarlet Witch #2 crashed and burned falling from the number 22 spot to the number 67 spot. Nobody can be surprised by this. It made no sense why Marvel Comics would cancel Steve Orlando’s Scarlet Witch and then restart it seven months later with….Steve Orlando as the writer. That is only logic that a Marvel Editor would understand. Look for Scarlet Witch to drop out of the Top 75 next month.

Black Widow: Venomous #1 had a disastrous debut coming in at the 89 spot. That is brutal. Clearly, the concept of Black Widow as Venom had limited appeal. Erica Schultz is the writer for this title and she has never had any sales success. So, I am not surprised that this one shot misfired.

Captain Marvel #10 fell from the number 160 spot and out of the Top 200 and ended up unranked. This is the final issue of Alyssa Wong’s ill-fated Captain Marvel title. It is only fitting that Wong’s run ends with an unranked issue. Carol Danvers is already unpopular and putting Wong on this title was a particular stroke of idiocy from the Marvel Comics editorial.

Fantastic Four Franchise July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

40 Fantastic Four #22 (Blood Hunt)

48 Namor #1

72 Doom #1 (Resolicitation)

108 Giant-Size Silver Surfer #1

The Fantastic Four franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Fantastic Four #22 fell from the number 29 spot to the number 40 spot. This is normal as this title bounces up and down in the Top 50.

Namor #1 had a horrendous debut coming in at the number 48 spot. This is brutal considering that Marvel hyped the fact that Jason Aaron was writing this title. Again, Aaron’s sales success has become extremely hit or miss over the years.

I think Marvel Comics marketing Aaron’s Namor telling fans that they will be getting more of what they got with Aarron’s Punisher was a massive mistake. No readers were asking to see Namor brutally butchered beyond belief the same way that Aaron hacked Frank Castle’s character to pieces in a bizarre fashion. This was a dumb move by Marvel Comics and surely drove many readers away from trying Namor #1. I know it had that impact on me!

Doom #1 grabbed the number 72 spot. This is amazing! Doom #1 debuted back in May 2024 when it scored the number 1 spot. It is incredible to see an issue from two months ago snagging a Top 75 finish. It is probably the news of Robert Downey, Jr. playing Dr. Doom in the upcoming MCU that helped spur this sales bump. Especially since Doom #1 did not make the Top 200 in June 2024.

Giant-Size Silver Surfer #1 had an awful debut taking the number 108 spot.

The Ultimate Universe July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

3 Ultimates #2

6 Ultimate Spider-Man #7

9 Ultimate X-Men #5

20 Ultimate Black Panther #6

95 Ultimate Spider-Man #6  (Resolicitation)

164 Ultimates #1  (Resolicitation)

171 Ultimate Black Panther #5  (Resolicitation)

172 Ultimate Spider-Man #5  (Resolicitation)

The Ultimate Universe had three comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50. This was flat in the Top 10 and Top 25 and worse in the Top 50 than in June 2024 when the Ultimate Universe had three comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50.

Ultimates #2 dipped from the number 1 spot to the number 3 spot. This is an impressive ranking for this new title. It looks like Marvel Comics has another sales beast on their hands with the Ultimates.

Ultimate Spider-Man #7 fell from the number 2 spot to the number 6 spot. This is the second straight month that Ultimate Spider-Man has not been the top-selling Ultimate Universe comic book. It will be interesting to watch the competition between Ultimates and Ultimate Spider-Man over the next few months. I am not betting against the team of Hickman and Peter Parker.

Ultimate X-Men #5 dipped from the number 7 spot to the number 9 spot. Again, another fantastic ranking for Ultimate X-Men. This title shows no signs of slowing down. Having said that, it could be argued that Ultimate X-Men is the weakest seller of the Ultimate Universe comics. We see that in the resolicitations. Ultimate X-Men is the only Ultimate Universe title not to have a resolicited issue in the Top 200 in July 2024.

Ultimate Black Panther #6 bounced up from the number 32 spot to the number 20 spot. This is a testament to the power of the Ultimate Universe that the worst-selling Ultimate Universe title still came in at the number 20 spot! Marvel Comics cannot do any wrong with the Ultimate Universe at this point.

Batman Franchise July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

25 Dark Knights of Steel Allwinter #1 (Of 6)

26 Batman #150 (Absolute Power)  (Resolicitation)

32 Nightwing #116

34 Batman Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age #2 (Of 12)

36 From the DC Vault Death in the Family Robin Lives! #1

42 Batman Superman World’s Finest #29

54 Detective Comics #1087

73 Batman ’89 Echoes #3 (Of 6)

80 Batman and Robin #11

102 Catwoman #67

109 Batman Dark Age #4 (Of 6)

128 Harley Quinn #42

144 Batman #149  (Resolicitation)

148 Batman the Brave and the Bold #15

168 Poison Ivy #24  (Resolicitation)

173 Outsiders #9

188 Detective Comics #1086  (Resolicitation)

Unranked: Red Hood: The Hill #6

The Batman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50. This was worse than in June 2024 when the Batman franchise had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down as the Batman franchise had one comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50 in July 2023.

Numbers were also down from two years ago as the Batman franchise had one comic in the Top 10, six comics in the Top 25, and nine comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Let’s start with the Bruce Wayne titles.

Dark Knights of Steel Allwinter #1 had a solid but not spectacular debut taking the number 25. I would expect this six-issue limited series to be outside of the Top 25 next month. However, I think this mini-series still has a chance of being a Top 50 seller until its conclusion.

Batman Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age #2 fell from the number 19 spot to the number 34 spot. This twelve-issue limited series looks like it will not be able to remain in the Top 50 for too much longer.

Batman Superman World’s Finest #29 stayed at the number 42 spot which is the same ranking this title had in June 2024. This title continues to be a rock-solid Top 50 seller.

Detective Comics #1087 rose from the number 61 spot to the number 54 spot. This is the second straight month this title has climbed up in the rankings. It will be interesting to see if this title can get back into the Top 50 next month. DC Comics desperately needs that to happen.

Batman ’89 Echoes #3 bounced up from the number 95 spot to the number 73 spot. The three-month gap in the shipping schedule seems to have not hurt this six-issue limited series at all.

Batman the Brave and the Bold #15 bounced up from the number 198 spot to the number 148 spot. This title is not dead just yet as it avoided going unranked this month!

Batman Dark Age #4 ticked up from the number 113 spot to the number 109 spot. This six-issue limited series is not going to be able to escape the Dead Titles Walking category.

Batman and Robin #11 bobbed up from the number 86 spot to the number 80 spot. This is now the second straight month that this title has sold outside of the Top 75 after going the first nine issues in the Top 75. I am not sure this title is going to be able to rally enough to become a steady Top 75 seller once again.

Let’s check out the Bat-boys of the Batman franchise.

Nightwing #116 ticked up from the number 46 spot to the number 32 spot. This title remains a constant Top 50 seller. Dick Grayson is still the only Batman franchise character outside of Bruce Wayne that is capable to putting up solid sales numbers.

Red Hood: The Hill #6 fell from number 167 and right out of the Top 200 to end up unranked. With this issue, this six-issue mini-series has concluded. Last month, I predicted that this title would fall out of the rankings.

Red Hood: The Hill was a total sales failure for DC Comics. DC Comics’ decision to hire a comic illustrator and storyboard artist Shawn Martinbrough as the writer of Red Hood: The Hill blew up in their face. DC Comics continues to make odd decisions concerning who they hire to write their mainstream superhero comic books.

Let’s check in with the ladies of the Batman franchise.

Catwoman #67 bounced up from the number 137 spot to the number 102 spot. This title continues to yo-yo up and down the Dead Titles Walking category. Tini Howard’s Catwoman is mercifully ending as this title is being canceled with the next issue.

Harley Quinn #42 climbed up from the number 150 spot to the number 128 spot. Tini Howard’s Harley Quinn is finally ending as this title is being canceled with the next issue.

Let’s wrap up with the lone team title.

Outsiders #9 bounced up from the number 190 spot to the number 173 spot. The Outsiders avoided falling out of the Top 200 and yelled I am not dead, yet! I thought this twelve-issue limited series was going to be unranked this month. However, it looks like it might be able to remain at the bottom of the Dead Titles Walking category.

Superman Franchise July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

13 Superman #16 (Absolute Power)

30 Action Comics #1067

42 Batman Superman World’s Finest #29

136 Power Girl #11

The Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was better than June 2024 when the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up as the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in July 2023.

Numbers were also up from two years ago as the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Superman #16 shot up from the number 47 spot to the number 13 spot. Wow! It looks like Superman #16 being an Absolute Power tie-in issue helped provide a massive sales boost. DC Comics is sure to be pleased with this.

Action Comics #1067 bounced up from the number 53 spot to the number 30 spot. The Superman franchise was so close to having two titles back in the Top 25 for the first time in forever. Still, it is good news for DC Comics to see Action Comics having a big rebound.

Power Girl #11 ticked up from the number 149 spot to the number 136 spot. The decision to have Leah Williams write this title continues to be a big mistake. Power Girl is a popular character and should be selling much better than this.

Justice League Franchise July 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

15 Wonder Woman #11 (Absolute Power)

21 Zatanna Bring Down the House #2 (Of 5)

37 Green Lantern #13 (Absolute Power)

76 Green Arrow #14 (Absolute Power)

97 The Flash #11

130 Zatanna Bring Down the House #1 (Of 5)  (Resolicitation)

142 Green Lantern War Journal #11

The Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was better than June 2024 when the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down as the Justice League franchise had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in July 2023.

However, numbers were up from two years ago as the Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Let’s start with the dudes of the Justice League franchise.

Green Lantern #13 rocketed up from the number 74 spot to the number 37 spot. It looks like this issue being an Absolute Power tie-in issue helped give it a monster sales boost. Again, more good news for DC Comics.

Green Lantern War Journal #11 bounced up from the number 188 spot to the number 142 spot. Only one more issue until this title is mercifully put out of its misery.

Green Arrow #14 shot up from the number 120 spot to the number 76 spot. Again, behold the power of Absolute Power as this was another tie-in issue.

The Flash #11 climbed up from the number 133 spot to the number 97 spot. After two straight months in the Dead Titles Walking category, this title finally manages to make its escape. The Flash is still selling way too poorly for this franchise. It makes no sense why DC Comics is sticking with Simon Spurrier on this title despite the obvious sales failures. It is just more of the usual ineptness from the DC Comics editorial staff.

Let’s finish with the dudettes of the Justice League franchise.

Wonder Woman #11 shot up from the number 37 spot to the number 15 spot. Once again we see the power of Absolute Power giving this title a big sales boost.

All in all, DC Comics has to be thrilled with how Absolute Power boosted Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow with their respective tie-in issues. This is what a successful big event is supposed to do.

Zatanna Bring Down the House #2 held steady taking the number 21 spot which is the same ranking the debut issue had last month. That is damn impressive. I was not impressed with this five-issue mini-series, but I cannot argue with such an excellent ranking for this second issue!

Mantle Swap Comics

27 X-Men: Blood Hunt – Laura Kinney the Wolverine #1 (Blood Hunt) (Marvel Comics)

74 Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #1 (Marvel Comics)

116 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #22 (Blood Hunt) (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

170 Ms. Marvel Annual #1 (Infinity Watch) (Marvel Comics)

Unranked: Captain Marvel #10 (Marvel Comics)

There were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was the same as in June 2024 when there were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down as there were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in July 2023.

Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #1 had an awful debut coming in at the number 74 spot. This four-issue limited series looks like it is doomed to become a Dead Title Walking.

It is sad to see how Marvel Comics is determined to ruin Electra’s character. It is painful to watch as Marvel Comics’ editors look like monkeys trying to jam a square peg into a round hole. Electra used to be a very popular character. Why? Because she was cool, badass, sexy, and unique. Now? Poor Electra has been completely robbed of her own unique identity and gimmick.

It also does not help that Marvel Comics hired Erica Schultz to write this title. It is mystifying why Marvel Comics keeps employing writers who continually have one sales failure after the next. Failing upwards is a real thing at Marvel Comics.

Legacy Character Comics

8 NYX #1 (Marvel Comics)

17 Kid Venom #1 (Marvel Comics)

32 Nightwing #116 (DC Comics)

65 Spider-Boy #9 (Marvel Comics)

71 Titans #13 (DC Comics)

97 The Flash #11 (DC Comics)

136 Power Girl #11 (DC Comics)

165 Tales of the Teen Titans #44 Facsimile Edition (DC Comics)

173 Outsiders #9 (DC Comics)

Unranked: Red Hood: The Hill #6 (DC Comics)

Unranked: Sinister Sons #6 (DC Comics)

There was one legacy character comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50. This was better than June 2024 when there were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up in the Top 10, flat in the Top 25, and down in the Top 50 as there were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in July 2023.

Titans #13 ticked up from the number 77 spot to the number 71 spot. This franchise continues to underperform. The Titans should be a Top 50-selling title. DC Comics continues to be confused about what to do with this franchise.

Unranked: Sinister Sons #6 went unranked for the fifth straight month. What a complete sales failure this title has been for DC Comics.

Female Lead Comics

7 Phoenix #1 (Marvel Comics)

11 Star Wars: Ahsoka #1 (Marvel Comics)

15 Wonder Woman #11 (Absolute Power) (DC Comics)

21 Zatanna Bring Down the House #2 (Of 5) (DC Comics)

170 Ms. Marvel Annual #1 (Infinity Watch) (Marvel Comics)

178 Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #2 (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

Unranked: Captain Marvel #10 (Marvel Comics)

There was one female lead comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50. This was better than June 2024 when there were zero female lead comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up in the Top 10 and Top 25 but down in the Top 50 as there was zero female lead comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50 in July 2023.

Numbers were up from two years ago as there were zero female lead comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

Marvel placed two female lead comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month numbers were up as Marvel Comics had one female lead comic in the Top 25 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also up as Marvel Comics had zero female lead comics in the Top 25 in July 2023. Numbers were also up in the Top 25 from two years ago as there were zero female lead comics in the Top 25 in July 2022.

DC Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month numbers were up as DC Comics had one female lead comic in the Top 25 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as DC Comics also had one female lead comic in the Top 25 in July 2023. Numbers were also up in the Top 25 from two years ago as there was one female lead comic in the Top 25 in July 2022.

Marvel placed two female lead comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were flat as Marvel Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 50 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also flat as Marvel Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 50 in July 2023. Numbers were also flat in the Top 50 from two years ago as there were two female lead comics in the Top 50 in July 2022.

DC Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month numbers were flat as DC Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 50 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics also had three female lead comics in the Top 50 in July 2023. However, numbers were up in the Top 50 from two years ago as there was one female lead comic in the Top 25 in July 2022.

Marvel placed five female lead comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month numbers were up as Marvel Comics had three female lead comics in the Top 75 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Marvel Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 75 in July 2023. Numbers were also up in the Top 75 from two years ago as there were three female lead comics in the Top 75 in July 2022.

DC Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month numbers were down as DC Comics had three female lead comics in the Top 75 in June 2024. Marvel placed six female lead comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month numbers were up as Marvel Comics had five female lead comics in the Top 100 in June 2024. However, year-over-year numbers were flat as Marvel Comics had six female lead comics in the Top 100 in July 2023. Numbers were down in the Top 100 from two years ago as there were eight female lead comics in the Top 100 in July 2022.

DC Comics had two female lead comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month numbers were down as DC Comics had three female lead comics in the Top 100 in June 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down by a wide margin as DC Comics also had nine female lead comics in the Top 100 in July 2023. Numbers were flat in the Top 100 from two years ago as there were two female lead comics in the Top 100 in July 2022.

Marvel Comics soundly beat DC Comics 6-2 in the Top 100. This category is not as healthy compared to one year ago for DC Comics and two years ago for Marvel Comics. It appears that Wonder Woman is the only female lead title that has the staying power to remain in the Top 25 every month. I would expect Phoenix, Asoka, and Zatanna to all fall out of the Top 25 in the next month or two.

Marvel Comics “won” this complete slap-fest by a score of 3-0. Neither publisher is doing well at all in this category. The editorial staff from both publishers need to figure out what they are doing wrong with these titles and get to fixing it quickly.

There is much better diversity in this category than we have seen in the past. We have three Black lead characters, three Asian lead characters, and one Hispanic lead character.

Dead Titles Walking

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, titles outside of the Top 100 are usually selling under the 18,000 unit sales mark. These are the Marvel Comics and DC Comics titles that are dead titles walking.
