June 2024 Comic Book Sales Rankings

It is time to check out the June 2024 single-issue comic book sales rankings. Things are getting murkier in terms of actual unit numbers. So, we will have to settle with going to ICv2 for their Top 200 sales rankings. It is not as good as actual unit numbers, but we have to work with what we get.

Keep in mind, that the Top 200 sales rankings are based on sales tracked at point-of-sale by the ComicHub system at over 125 local comic book shops selling American comics. These sales rankings represent sales to consumers by local comic shops.

The data for the June 2024 sales rankings was collected based on a five-week month, from June 2 – July 6, 2024.

You can go over to ICv2 and check out the Top 50 for June 2024 for free or opt for a pro membership (It is well worth the money) and get the Top 200 for June 2024 and then come back here for a detailed analysis of the June 2024 sales rankings!

June 2024 Top 200 Comic Book Sales Rankings

The Battle for the Top 10

Marvel Comics placed six comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were down from the eight comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 10 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also down as Marvel Comics had seven comics in the Top 10 in June 2023. Numbers were flat from two years ago as Marvel Comics also had six comics in the Top 10 in June 2022.

Peter Parker continues to be a sales monster as he powered Marvel Comics’ Top 10 success. Four of the six were Peter Parker comics.

DC Comics placed two comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that DC Comics had in the Top 10 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as DC Comics had two comics in the Top 10 in June 2023. Numbers were down from two years ago as DC Comics had four comics in the Top 10 in June 2022.

Both comics were Bruce Wayne’s Batman titles—zero surprises.

Image Comics placed two comics in the Top 10. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that Image Comics had in the Top 10 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had one comic in the Top 10 in June 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Image Comics had zero comics in the Top 10 in June 2022.

The Hasbro license continues to be a golden goose for Image Comics. Both of Image Comics’ Top 10 comics were from the Hasbro franchise.

The Battle for the Top 25

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 11-25 range typically sell in the 65,000 to 50,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed fifteen comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were down from the nineteen comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 25 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also down as Marvel Comics had seventeen comics in the Top 25 in June 2023. Numbers were flat from two years ago as Marvel Comics had fifteen comics in the Top 25 in June 2022.

DC Comics placed six comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were up from the three comics that DC Comics had in the Top 25 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as DC Comics had six comics in the Top 25 in June 2023. Numbers were down from two years ago as DC Comics had nine comics in the Top 25 in June 2022.

Three of the six DC Comics issues in the Top 25 were Bruce Wayne comics.

Image Comics placed three comics in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were flat from the three comics that Image Comics had in the Top 25 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had two comics in the Top 25 in June 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Image Comics had one comic in the Top 25 in June 2022.

All of Image Comics’ Top 25 comics were from the Habsro license. This license allows Image Comics to make a run at DC Comics in the Top 10 and 25.

IDW Publishing placed one comic in the Top 25. Month-over-month sales were up from the zero comics that IDW Publishing had in the Top 25 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 25 in June 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 25 in June 2022.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Last Ronin II Re-Evolution #2 plummeted from the number 3 spot to the number 23 spot. That is a much bigger drop than I wasanticipating for this title.

The Battle for the Top 50

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 26-50 range typically sell in the 49,000 to 30,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed thirty-one comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were down from the thirty-three comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 50 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were also down as Marvel Comics had thirty-three comics in the Top 50 in June 2023. However, numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had twenty-eight comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Fantastic Four #21 climbed from the number 41 spot to the number 29 spot. Ryan North continues to do a fine job with this franchise. This is as high in the rankings that we have seen this title in many months.

Doctor Strange #16 fell from the number 39 spot to the number 43 spot. Still, it is positive to see this title still in the Top 50 after spending March and April outside of the Top 50.

Vengeance of the Moon Knight #6 climbed from the number 67 spot to the number 44 spot. I am sure this franchise will heat up again once we get the predictable return of Marc Spector as Moon Knight.

Daredevil #10 fell from the number 31 spot to the number 48 spot. This is the lowest sales ranking for this new title. This is also a far cry from where we usually find Daredevil over the past several years. This was a franchise that was a lock for the Top 25 every month. Saladin Ahmed looks to be struggling to match prior creative teams on this franchise.

DC Comics placed eleven comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the seven comics that DC Comics had in the Top 50 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as DC Comics had eleven comics in the Top 50 in June 2023. Numbers were down from two years ago as DC Comics had fifteen comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Six of DC Comics’ eleven Top 50 comics were from the Batman franchise.

Image Comics placed four comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were down from the seven comics that Image Comics had in the Top 50 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as Image Comics had four comics in the Top 50 in June 2023. Numbers were flat from two years ago as Image Comics had four comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

All of Image Comics’ Top 50 comics were from the Habsro license. Image Comics would be in rough shape without this lucrative license.

Dynamite Entertainment placed two comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 50 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 50 in June 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Space Ghost #2 fell from the number 13 spot to the number 28 spot. This is much better than I was anticipating for this issue! It looks like Space Ghost has more juice with readers than I realized. Personally, I have always loved Space Ghost, but I thought that I was the oddball. This is cool to see.

ThunderCats #5 ticked down from the number 47 spot to the number 49 spot. This is a great sign. It looks like ThunderCats fall in the rankings has been arrested. I am sure that Dynamite would be thrilled if this title remained a Top 50 seller.

IDW Publishing placed two comics in the Top 50. Month-over-month sales were up from the one comic that IDW Publishing had in the Top 50 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as IDW Publishing had two comics in the Top 50 in June 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Alpha #1 debuted at the number 41 spot. This was a disappointing debut considering it was boosted by two open order covers, four incentive order covers, and five retailer covers. This is also despite having a “big name” like Jason Aaron writing this new title. Aaron continues to be streaky with his sales hits and misses.

The Battle for the Top 75

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 51-75 range typically sell in the 29,000 to 25,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed forty-seven comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the forty-six comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 75 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as Marvel Comics had forty-eight comics in the Top 75 in June 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had forty-five comics in the Top 75 in June 2022.

G.O.D.S. #8 dipped from the number 52 spot to the number 55 spot. It appears that Hickman’s title has found its happy place in the sales rankings.

DC Comics placed fifteen comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up from the thirteen comics that DC Comics had in the Top 75 in May 2024. However, year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics had nineteen comics in the Top 75 in June 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had eighteen comics in the Top 75 in June 2022.

Eight of DC Comics’ fifteen Top 75 comics were from the Batman franchise.

Image Comics placed eight comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were down from the eleven comics that Image Comics had in the Top 75 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had six comics in the Top 75 in June 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Image Comics had seven comics in the Top 75 in June 2022.

Five from the Hasbro franchise, two from the Ghost Machine franchise, and one from the Universal franchise.

Universal Monsters the Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives #3 bounced up from the number 78 spot to the number 67 spot. This is a positive sign for this four-issue mini-series. It looks like a Top 75 finish is quite possible.

Dynamite Entertainment placed two comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were up/down/flat from the one comic that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 75 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up/down/flat as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 75 in June 2023. Numbers were up/down/flat from two years ago as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 75 in June 2022.

IDW Publishing placed two comics in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were flat from the two comics that IDW Publishing had in the Top 75 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as IDW Publishing had two comics in the Top 75 in June 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 75 in June 2022.

BOOM! Studios placed one comic in the Top 75. Month-over-month sales were flat from the one comic that BOOM! Studios had in the Top 75 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as BOOM! Studios had zero comics in the Top 75 in June 2023. However, numbers were down from two years ago as BOOM! Studios had four comics in the Top 75 in June 2022.

The Battle for the Top 100

Based on historical numbers from the Comichron as well as projections through April 2022, the titles in the numbers 76-100 range typically sell in the 24,000 to 18,000 unit range.

Marvel Comics placed sixty-one comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the fifty-nine comics that Marvel Comics had in the Top 100 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Marvel Comics had fifty-eight comics in the Top 100 in June 2023. Numbers were also up from two years ago as Marvel Comics had fifty-eight comics in the Top 100 in June 2022.

Giant-Size Daredevil #1 had a terrible debut coming in at the number 82 spot. Saladin Ahmed continues to experience some sales struggles with this once hot franchise.

DC Comics placed eighteen comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the sixteen comics that DC Comics had in the Top 100 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as DC Comics had twenty-five comics in the Top 100 in June 2023. Numbers were also down from two years ago as DC Comics had twenty-seven comics in the Top 100 in June 2022.

Ten of DC Comics’ eighteen Top 100 comics were from the Batman franchise.

Image Comics placed sixteen comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were up from the thirteen comics that Image Comics had in the Top 100 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Image Comics had twelve comics in the Top 100 in June 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Image Comics had ten comics in the Top 100 in June 2022.

Six from the Hasbro franchise, three from the Ghost Machine franchise, two from the Spawn franchise, and one from the Universal franchise. Without these valuable licenses and franchises, Image Comics would have only had four comics in the Top 100 if relying only on their random niche titles.

Dynamite Entertainment placed two comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were flat from the two comics that Dynamite Entertainment had in the Top 100 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were up as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 100 in June 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as Dynamite Entertainment had zero comics in the Top 100 in June 2022.

IDW Publishing placed two comics in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were down from the three comics that IDW Publishing had in the Top 100 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were down as IDW Publishing had three comics in the Top 100 in June 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as IDW Publishing had zero comics in the Top 100 in June 2022.

BOOM! Studios placed one comic in the Top 100. Month-over-month sales were flat from the one comic that BOOM! Studios had in the Top 100 in May 2024. Year-over-year numbers were flat as BOOM! Studios had one comic in the Top 100 in June 2023. Numbers were up from two years ago as BOOM! Studios had zero comics in the Top 100 in June 2022.

The Joshua Williamson Award For The Writer With The Most Titles In The Top 50

Several writers had two issues from the same title in the Top 50.

Zeb Wells had two comics with Amazing Spider-Man #51 at the number 3 spot and Amazing Spider-Man #52 at the number 6 spot.

Jonathan Hickman had two comics with Ultimate Spider-Man #6 at the number 2 spot and Ultimate Spider-Man #5 at the number 13 spot.

Two writers had two issues from different titles in the Top 50.

Cody Ziglar had two issues with Deadpool #3 at the number 25 spot and Miles Morales: Spider-Man #21 at the number 33 spot.

Tom Waltz had two issues with Wolverine: Blood Hunt #1 at the number 12 spot and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Last Ronin II Re-Evolution #2 at the number 23 spot.

Jason Aaron had two issues with Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime #1 at the number 20 spot and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Alpha #1 at the number 41 spot.

Joshua Williamson had two issues with Absolute Power Ground Zero #1 and Superman #15 at the number 47 spot.

Chip Zdarsky had four issues with Batman #148 at the number 8 spot, Batman #149 at the number 10 spot, Absolute Power Ground Zero #1, and Batman #150 at the number 26 spot.

A couple of writers had three issues in the Top 50.

Al Ewing had three comics with X-Men #35 at the number 4 spot, Venom #34 at the number 30 spot, and Immortal Thor #12 at the number 38 spot.

Mark Waid had three issues with Absolute Power Ground Zero #1 at the number 14 spot, Absolute Power #1 at the number 15 spot, and Batman Superman World’s Finest #28 at the number 42 spot.

However, one writer Godzilla stomped the competition with a monstrous seven issues in the Top 50! Jed MacKay had seven issues with Blood Hunt: Red Band #3 at the number 16 spot, Blood Hunt #3 at the number 17 spot, Blood Hunt: Red Band #4 at the number 24 spot, Avengers #15 at the number 27 spot, Blood Hunt #4 at the number 34 spot, Doctor Strange #16 at the number 43 spot, and Vengeance of the Moon Knight #6 at the number 44 spot.

Therefore, the winner of the Joshua Williamson Award for June 2024 is…Jed MacKay!

Battle of the Franchises

The X-Men franchise took first place with two comics in the Top 10, five comics in the Top 25, and nine comics in the Top 50.

Big Events

Blood Hunt

12 Wolverine: Blood Hunt #1

16 Blood Hunt: Red Band #3

17 Blood Hunt #3

24 Blood Hunt: Red Band #4

27 Avengers #15

29 Fantastic Four #21

30 Venom #34

33 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #21

34 Blood Hunt #4

35 X-Men: Blood Hunt – Jubilee #1

43 Doctor Strange #16

57 Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #2

73 Wolverine: Blood Hunt #2

76 Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #2

79 Blood Hunters #2

90 X-Men: Blood Hunt – Psylocke #1

99 Dracula: Blood Hunt #2

101 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #22

105 Black Panther: Blood Hunt #2

106 Doctor Strange #17

112 Strange Academy: Blood Hunt #2

114 Werewolf By Night: Blood Hunt #1

142 Blood Hunters #3

144 Blood Hunt #2 (Resolicitation)

148 Union Jack the Ripper: Blood Hunt #2

166 Black Panther: Blood Hunt #3

189 Amazing Spider-Man #49 (Resolicitation)

190 Blood Hunt #1 (Resolicitation)

197 Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #1 (Resolicitation)

Blood Hunt placed zero comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and thirteen comics in the Top 50. If there is one thing Marvel Comics knows how to do it is to completely flood the market with an endless number of big event tie-in issues. If you think five tie-in issues are good then ten are even better! We got a ludicrous twenty-two Blood Hunt tie-in issues. We all know there is absolutely no need for this.

Many of the Blood Hunt tie-in issues were sales disasters. Twelve of the twenty-two tie-in issues were outside of the Top 75. Eight of the twenty-two tie-in issues were in the Dead Titles Walking category.

Blood Hunt: Red Band #3 fell from the number 11 spot to the number 16 spot. Blood Hunt: Red Band #4 dropped from the number 16 spot to the number 24 spot.

Blood Hunt #3 fell from the number 14 spot to the number 17 spot. Blood Hunt #4 fell from the number 17 spot to the number 34 spot.

The numbers for the Blood Hunt main title are a bit off from what you would expect from a big event story. Normally, a big event’s main title should be a Top 10 seller each month.

Black Panther: Blood Hunt #2 fell from the number 81 spot to the number 105 spot. Black Panther: Blood Hunt #3 fell from the number 105 spot to the number 166 spot. With that issue, this three-issue mini-series has concluded. We all knew this title was going to be a total sales failure.

Cheryl Eaton is the writer. She is a self-described “pop-culture pundit and marketing strategist.” Marvel Comics editorial continues to hire completely unqualified people to write their superhero comic books. And every time it predictable leads to sales failures. I have no idea what standard Marvel Comics editorial is employing in their hiring decisions.

Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #2 dipped from the number 69 spot to the number 76 spot. After a horrendous debut, this title managed to avoid a big fall in the rankings. This three-issue mini-series has a shot of concluding in the Top 100 next month.

Blood Hunters #2 fell from the number 45 spot to the number 79 spot. Blood Hunters #3 fell from the number 79 spot to the number 142 spot. This is a brutal drop in the rankings.

Dracula: Blood Hunt #2 dropped like a rock falling from the number 49 spot to the number 99 spot. This is no surpise at all. Danny Lore is the writer and is not a mainstream superhero comic book writer and has never had any sales success. This three-issue mini-series is a lock to conclude as a Dead Title Walking.

Strange Academy: Blood Hunt #2 crashed and burned falling from the number 57 spot to the number 112 spot. It’s zero surprise that this title cratered in the rankings. Daniel Older is the writer. He is a YA fiction writer and not a mainstream superhero comic book writer. This always leads to a predictable sales failure. This three-issue mini-series is going to conclude as a Dead Title Walking.

Werewolf By Night: Blood Hunt #1 bombed on its debut coming in at the number 114 spot. This one-shot was a sales dud.

Union Jack the Ripper: Blood Hunt #2 crashed from the number 88 spot to the number 148 spot. Such a massive drop was not a surprise given the bad debut ranking. Again, this was predictable given that Cavan Scott is the writer. Scott is a novelist and magazine/newspaper columnist. It is another weird hire by Marvel Comics editorial.

The biggest reason that all of these Blood Hunt tie-in issues are selling so poorly is the bizarre selection of writers. I have no idea why Marvel Comics would hire all of these unqualified people from outside of the mainstream comic book industry and expect to have any sales success.

Infinity Watch

78 Thanos Annual #1

113 Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1

Infinity Watch was a total sales bust and failed to place any comics in the Top 50.

Fall of the House of X

4 X-Men #35

116 Rise of the Powers of X #5 (Resolicitation)

Fall of the House of X placed one comic in the Top 10.

Absolute Power

14 Absolute Power Ground Zero #1 (One-Shot)

15 Absolute Power #1 (Of 4)

26 Batman #150

47 Superman #15

120 Green Arrow #13

194 Suicide Squad Dream Team #4 (Of 4)

Absolute Power placed zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50. This was a disappointing start for DC Comics’ latest desperate attempt at a big event story. A big event comic always debuts in the Top 10. Anything other than that should be considered a failure.

Absolute Power #1 only scored a Top 15 debut. That would be a nice debut for a random new title from DC Comics. However, for the debut of a big event title? Nope. That is a bad sign. Perhaps things will improve and Absolute Power will benefit from word-of-mouth and climb up in the sales rankings with the second issue. I have my doubts, but anything is possible.

To make things worse, two of the four Absolute Power tie-in issues were in the Dead Titles Walking category.

House of Brainiac

47 Superman #15

53 Action Comics #1066

74 Green Lantern #12

149 Power Girl #10

House of Brainiac placed zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This appears to be ending with a whimper.

Hasbro Franchise

5 Transformers #9

9 Scarlett #1 (Of 5)

11 Destro #1 (Of 5)

36 Void Rivals #10

70 Scarlett #2 (Of 5)

97 GI Joe A Real American Hero #307

176 Cobra Commander #5 (Of 5) (Resolicitation)

The Hasbro franchise had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50. This was better in the Top 10 and flat in the Top 25 and Top 50 than in May 2024 when the Hasbro franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50.

Transformers #9 dipped from the number 4 spot to the number 5 spot. It is phenomenal how this title has become such a sales beast.

Void Rivals #10 dipped from the number 32 spot to the number 36 spot. This title has enjoyed a nice resurgence as it has stayed in the Top 50 for two months straight.

Scarlett #1 had an excellent debut taking the number 9 spot. This issue was powered by four open order covers, three reprint covers, five incentive covers, a whopping ten retailer exclusive covers, and one event exclusive cover. This is no surprise as the prior two G.I. Joe mini-series in Duke and Cobra Commander were white hot.

Having said that, Kelly Thompson is the writer on Scarlett which is unfortunate. Thompson is a journeyman writer who has never had much sales success. It would have been nice to see Scarlet get blessed with a more talented writer.

That leads us to Scarlet #2 which plummeted from the number 9 spot to the number 70 spot. Now, I think Scarlet will enjoy a rebound with issue #3 since shipping two issues in the same month is always tough on any comic not named Amazing Spider-Man or Batman. I have faith in Scarlet’s huge popularity with fans to be powerful enough to drag Thompson back into the Top 50 with Scarlet #3.

Destro #1 had an excellent debut taking the number 11 spot. This issue was powered by five open order covers, five incentive covers, seven retailer exclusive covers, and one event exclusive cover. It will be interesting to see if Dan Watters delivered enough to get readers to come back for more of this five-issue mini-series.

GI Joe A Real American Hero #307 dropped from the number 54 spot to the number 97 spot. That was a much larger drop than I anticipated. However, it is not that surprising as prior issues of GI Joe A Real American Hero have sold at the bottom of the Top 100. It seems the sales magic is reserved for the GI Joe titles that are related to the Energon Universe.

Spawn Franchise

87 Gunslinger Spawn #32

89 Spawn #354

136 Spawn Scorched #30

147 Spawn Rat City #3

152 Spawn Misery #1 (Of 4)

153 King Spawn #35

174 Spawn: Monolith #2 (Of 3)

192 Gunslinger Spawn #33

The Spawn franchise had zero comics in the Top 50. This was the same as in May 2024 when the Spawn franchise had zero comics in the Top 50.

Gunslinger Spawn #32 dipped from the number 76 spot to the number 87 spot. Gunslinger Spawn #33 then fell from the number 87 spot to the number 192 spot. I would not panic just yet. Again, this title shipped two issues so it is normal to see the second issue coming in lower. Now, this is a lot lower, so that is some cause for concern. And that is after Gunslinger Spawn #32 already fell in the rankings. Having said that, I think this title will get a rebound with issue #34.

Spawn #354 fell from the number 66 spot to the number 89 spot. This is the second straight dip in the rankings for this title.

Spawn Scorched #30 fell from the number 104 spot to the number 136 spot. This erased the gains in the rankings this title made in May 2024.

Spawn Rat City #3 plummeted from the number 84 spot to the number 147 spot. I thought hiring Erica Schultz on this title was odd given her lack of sales success on superhero comics. So, I am not surprised by this title’s rapid descent in the sales rankings.

Spawn Misery #1 had a horrid debut at the number 142 spot. This four-issue mini-series is going to struggle to conclude in the Top 200. This is the only Spawn title that I skipped on getting. It just did not look appealing.

King Spawn #35 fell from the number 140 spot to the number 153 spot. This is the second straight month of declines in the rankings.

Spawn: Monolith #2 crashed from the number 79 spot to the number 174 spot. This is no surprise at all. Anytime a title fails to debut in the Top 75 you can bet on seeing the second issue flame out in the rankings. This three-issue mini-series is a sales bust.

Ghost Machine Titles

54 Geiger #3

60 Rook Exodus #3

80 Redcoat #3

Ghost Machine had zero comics in the Top 50. This was worse than in May 2024 when Ghost Machine had three comics in the Top 50.

Geiger #3 fell from the number 35 spot to the number 54 spot. This is a larger drop than I had anticipated.

Rook Exodus #3 fell from the number 40 spot to the number 60 spot. I also thought that this title had a better shot of not having such a large drop in the rankings.

Redcoat #3 dropped from the number 44 spot to the number 80 spot. Owch. That is rough.

All in all, it was not a positive month for these new Ghost Machine titles. Having said that, it is early so there might still be brighter days ahead.

Star Wars Franchise

64 Star Wars #47

72 Star Wars: Darth Vader #47

85 Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red #3

127 Star Wars: Jango Fett #4

132 Star Wars: The High Republic (Phase III) #8

135 Star Wars: Inquisitors #1

139 Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red #2 (Resolicitation)

Unranked: Star Wars: The High Republic #9

The Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50. This was the same as in May 2024 when the Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down as the Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50 in June 2023.

Numbers were also down from two years ago as the Star Wars franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Star Wars #47 climbed from the number 73 spot to the number 64 spot.

Star Wars: Darth Vader #47 fell from the number 43 spot to the number 72 spot. This is as low as I have seen this title in a while.

Star Wars: Darth Maul – Black, White & Red #3 dropped from the number 75 spot to the number 85 spot. That is not too terrible for this four-issue mini-series. There is a good chance this can conclude in the Top 100.

Star Wars: Jango Fett #4 sipped from the number 122 spot to the number 127 spot. With this issue, this mini-series has concluded. Star Wars: Jango Fett was a sales failure.

Star Wars: The High Republic (Phase III) #8 fell from the number 86 spot to the number 132 spot. Star Wars: The High Republic #9 then fell from the number 132 spot crashed out of the rankings and was unranked. I get this title had two issues in this month’s sales chart, but this is just brutal. The High Republic initiative continues to be a huge failure for Lucasfilm.

Star Wars: Inquisitors #1 had a brutally awful debut coming in at the number 135 spot. Rodney Barnes is the writer and he is another non-comic book writer that Marvel Comics likes to throw on these Star Wars titles. I would expect this title to perform poorly like all the other titles written by people from outside the mainstream comic book industry.

Spider-Man Franchise

2 Ultimate Spider-Man #6

3 Amazing Spider-Man #51

6 Amazing Spider-Man #52

13 Ultimate Spider-Man #5

117 Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin #3

178 Ultimate Spider-Man #3 (Resolicitation)

184 Spider-Woman #8

189 Amazing Spider-Man #49 (Blood Hunt) (Resolicitation)

193 Edge of Spider-Verse (2024) #4 (Resolicitation)

200 Spider-Punk: Arms Race #4 (Resolicitation)

The Spider-Man franchise had three comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and seven comics in the Top 50. This was worse than May 2024 when the Spider-Man franchise had four comics in the Top 10, six comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were also down as the Spider-Man franchise had two comics in the Top 10, six comics in the Top 25, and eleven comics in the Top 50 in June 2023.

Numbers were down from two years ago as the Spider-Man franchise had four comics in the Top 10, five comics in the Top 25, and eight comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Amazing Spider-Man #51 snagged the number 3 spot and Amazing Spider-Man #52 scored the number 6 spot. This was identical to what these two issues of Amazing Spider-Man did in May 2024. Wow. Impressive consistency

Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 had a terrible debut coming in at the number 113 spot. This annual was a bust like most annuals.

Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #2 crashed and burned falling from the number 3 spot to the number 57 spot. Justina Ireland is the writer and she is a YA novelist, not a mainstream superhero comic book writer. Ireland has never had any sales success. So, I was fully expecting this to happen. I have no idea why Marvel Comics would still hire her at this point.

Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin #3 fell from the number 83 spot to the number 117 spot. J.M. Matteis’ story has not been able to keep readers interested in this comic.

Spider-Man Reign 2 #1 had an average debut coming in at the number 39 spot.

Spectacular Spider-Men #4 plummeted from the number 37 spot to the number 69 spot. This title appears to be cooling off rapidly. Last month, I predicted this title would drop out of the Top 50 in June or July.

Time to check out the knock-off Spider-Men.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #21 climbed from the number 59 spot to the number 33 spot. This was a Blood Hunt tie-in issue so perhaps that helped. However, Miles Morales: Spider-Man #22 plummeted from the number 33 spot to the number 101 spot. Again, this title had two issues this month so some drop-off is to be expected, but that is larger than anticipated.

Superior Spider-Man #8 fell from the number 68 spot to the number 111 spot. This is the lowest that we have seen this title to date.

Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 #4 fell from the number 91 spot to the number 125 spot. Wow. What a complete sales disaster as this title was up at the number 20 spot when it debuted. Miquel O’Hara fans like me continue to be a small percentage of comic book readers.

Spider-Boy #8 rebounded from the number 98 spot to the number 66 spot. This is about where this title was in April 2024. This is a positive sign for this title.

Next is the Venomverse.

Venom #34 dropped from the number 24 spot to the number 30 spot. Venom #35 then fell from the number 30 spot to the number 134 spot. There’s no reason to panic. Shipping two issues in this month’s rankings leads to this type of sales pattern.

Carnage #8 climbed from the number 90 spot to the number 68 spot. It is always a win when this title can sneak back into the Top 75.

What If…? Venom #5 ticked down from the number 70 spot to the number 71 spot. This is the fourth consecutive month that this title has fallen in the rankings. The good news is that the drop in the rankings was negligible this month. This five-issue mini-series has a shot of finishing in the Top 75.

Venom: Separation Anxiety #2 cratered as it fell from the number 17 spot to the number 96 spot. Oof. This five-issue mini-series looks doomed to conclude as a Dead Title Walking.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the Spider-Man franchise.

Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #2 crashed and burned as it fell from the number 10 spot to the number 52 spot. This is no surprise at all. Stephanie Phillips has been a sales failure in everything she has written for Marvel Comics and DC Comics. Only a Marvel Comics editor would expect anything different on Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider. This title should be out of the Top 75 in the next month or two.

Jackpot & Black Cat #4 fell from the number 133 spot to the number 140 spot. With this issue, this four-issue mini-series has concluded. Jackpot & Black Cat was a sales failure. Hiring a writer in Celeste Bronfram who is not a mainstream comic book writer has blown up in Marvel Comics’ face. This was a title delivering a character nobody was asking for written by a writer who has no qualifications to be writing for Marvel Comics.

Spider-Woman #8 plummeted from the number 119 spot to the number 184 spot. Next month is huge as this title is fighting for its life to not become an unranked title.

X-Men Franchise

163 Wolverine: Madripoor Knights #5

165 X-Men: The Wedding Special #1 (Resolicitation)

179 Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe #1 Facsimile Edition

The X-Men franchise had two comics in the Top 10, five comics in the Top 25, and nine comics in the Top 50. This was worse than May 2024 when the X-Men franchise had three comics in the Top 10, eight comics in the Top 25, and eleven comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up as the X-Men franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50 in June 2023.

Numbers were also up from two years ago as the X-Men franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Let’s start with the team titles.

X-Men #35 shot up from the number 28 spot to the number 4 spot. Normalcy has returned and we expect this title to be in the Top 10.

X-Men ’97 #4 plummeted from the number 18 spot to the number 40 spot. This five-issue mini-series still has a shot of concluding in the Top 50 next month.

X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #1 had a bad debut taking the number 51 spot. X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #2 then fell from the number 51 spot to the number 108 spot. This is expected given the poor debut number for this title. Steve Foxe struck out in his attempt to get readers interested in this four-issue mini-series.

Let’s hit the guys of the X-Men franchise.

Wolverine: Blood Hunt #1 had a strong debut taking the number 12 spot. Wolverine: Blood Hunt #2 fell from the number 12 spot to the number 73 spot. Tim Waltz’s story failed to hook a large percentage of readers.

Hellverine #2 cratered as it fell from the number 8 spot to the number 45 spot. That is a larger drop than I had anticipated. This four-issue mini-series is going to struggle to conclude in the Top 50.

Wolverine: Deep Cut #1 had a horrendous debut coming in at the number 103 spot. It looks like Chris Claremont’s throwback story was a swing-and-a-miss with readers.

The Life of Wolverine #1 had a terrible debut coming in at the number 128 spot. This one-shot issue was a sales bust.

Wolverine: Madripoor Knights #5 plummeted from the number 97 spot to the number 163 spot. With this issue, this five-issue mini-series has concluded. This mini-series was another sales disappointment for Marvel Comics.

Deadpool Wolverine: WWIII #2 fell from the number 5 spot to the number 18 spot. This is a bit more of a drop that I guessed we would see for this super-star team-up title. Still, this three-issue mini-series looks to have a shot of concluding in the Top 25 next month.

Deadpool #3 dropped from the number 16 spot to the number 25 spot. Deadpool #4 fell from the number 25 spot to the number 92 spot. This title will rebound in the rankings after having two issues included in this month’s sales chart.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the X-Men franchise.

X-Men: Blood Hunt – Jubilee #1 debuted at the number 35 spot. This one-shot was a solid but not spectacular sales performer.

X-Men: Blood Hunt – Magik #1 debuted at the number 50 spot. This one-shot was another solid but not spectacular sales performer. Side note, the Lesley “Leirix” Li variant cover for this issue is phenomenal.

X-Men: Blood Hunt – Psylocke #1 debuted at the number 90 spot. This one-shot was a disappointing sales performer.

Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #4 fell from the number 87 spot to the number 110 spot. We all knew that this title was destined to live in the Dead Titles Walking category. With this issue, this four-issue mini-series has concluded. Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace was another sales failure for Marvel Comics. Maybe next time Marvel Comics rolls out a Ms. Marvel title they will hire an actual mainstream superhero comic book writer rather than a Hollywood actor and a Hollywood screenwriter.

Avengers Franchise

1 Ultimates #1

22 Scarlet Witch #1

27 Avengers #15 (Blood Hunt)

31 Incredible Hulk #13

32 Ultimate Black Panther #5

38 Immortal Thor #12

63 Invincible Iron Man #19

75 Captain America #10

88 Get Fury #2

98 Sensational She-Hulk #9

105 Black Panther: Blood Hunt #2 (Blood Hunt)

131 Avengers: Twilight #6 (Resolicitation)

148 Union Jack the Ripper: Blood Hunt #2 (Blood Hunt)

1154 Black Widow & Hawkeye #4

160 Captain Marvel #9

166 Black Panther: Blood Hunt #3 (Blood Hunt)

The Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50. This was better than May 2024 when the Avengers franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down in the Top 10 and Top 25 but up in the Top 50 as the Avengers franchise had two comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50 in June 2023.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10, down in the Top 25, and up in the Top 50 from two years ago as the Avengers franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Let’s start with the team title.

Avengers #15 fell from the number 19 spot to the number 27 spot. This title continues to struggle to stay in the Top 25 consistently.

Next are the dudes of the Avengers franchise.

Incredible Hulk #13 climbed from the number 60 spot to the number 31 spot. This was a nice rebound month for this title. However, Incredible Hulk continues to fail to crack back into the Top 25 where it used to reside.

Immortal Thor #12 dipped from the number 33 spot to the number 38 spot. This is still higher in the sales ranking than this title has been over the past four months.

Invincible Iron Man #19 climbed from the number 182 spot to the number 63 spot. This is the range in the sales ranking where we normally see Mr. Emma Frost’s title.

Captain America #10 dipped from the number 72 spot to the number 75 spot. This title appears to have found its happy place in the sales rankings.

Get Fury #2 fell from the number 75 spot to the number 88 spot. I am hoping the real Nick Fury’s five-issue mini-series manages to conclude in the Top 100. That is going to be a tough challenge!

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the Avengers franchise.

Scarlet Witch #1 debuted at the number 22 spot. Only Marvel Comics cancels an ongoing comic with the tenth issue and then rolls out a new ongoing comic just a few months later with the same writer. At any rate, the last issue of Steve Orlando’s Scarlet Witch was issue #10 back in November 2023. Scarlet Witch #10 concluded that series by taking the number 58 spot. So, Scarlet Witch debuting at the number 22 spot is not a great sign. It looks like Orlando’s Scarlet Witch title will be right back where it was when it was canceled. This seems like a lot of shenanigans for very little payoff.

Sensational She-Hulk #9 dropped from the number 95 spot to the number 98 spot. This is what we have come to expect from this title. It continually fights and claws to stay just within the Top 100.

Black Widow & Hawkeye #4 fell from the number 123 spot to the number 154 spot. With this issue, this four-issue mini-series has concluded. This mini-series was a total sales failure for Marvel Comics. It is hard to imagine that a title starring two popular and mainstream characters would be a Dead Title Walking with just the second issue. But, Stephanie Phillips was the writer, and Phillips always gets bad sales numbers. I am unsure why Marvel Comics keeps hiring Phillips at this point. Talk about failing upwards.

Captain Marvel #9 fell from the number 157 spot to the number 160 spot. It’s Alyssa Wong. It’s Carol Danvers. Nobody cares.

The Ultimate Universe

1 Ultimates #1

2 Ultimate Spider-Man #6

7 Ultimate X-Men #4

13 Ultimate Spider-Man #5

32 Ultimate Black Panther #5

119 Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (Resolicitation)

162 Ultimate X-Men #3 (Resolicitation)

168 Ultimate Spider-Man #2 (Resolicitation)

178 Ultimate Spider-Man #3 (Resolicitation)

The Ultimate Universe had three comics in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and five comics in the Top 50. This was better than May 2024 when the Ultimate Universe had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Ultimates #1 had a monster debut taking the number 1 spot. It was powered by five open-order covers, two reprint covers, two incentive covers, and two retailer-exclusive covers. I could not tell you the first thing about the writer Deniz Camp. I know that he has written various indie titles for publishers like Image Comics, Scout Comics, Vault Comics, and Valiant Entertainment. So, I have no data on what sales performance to expect from him.

Ultimate Spider-Man #6 continues to be the Brock Lesnar of the comic book industry as it claimed the number 2 spot just like it did in May 2024.

Ultimate Spider-Man #5 dropped from the number 2 spot to the number 13 spot. This is due to the title having two issues in this month’s sales chart. Trust me, the next issue will be back in the Top 5.

What is truly impressive is the resolictations for Ultimate Spider-Man #1, Ultimate Spider-Man #2, and Ultimate Spider-Man #3. This is crazy on multiple levels. First, every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man made the Top 200 for June 2024 except for Ultimate Spider-Man #4. Second, one title placed FIVE issues into the Top 200 for a single month. I have never seen that before. Third, an issue (Ultimate Spider-Man #1) from SIX months ago managed to make the Top 200 in June 2024. All of this is insane! There is nothing even remotely close to Hickman’s Ultimate Spider-Man in the entire comic industry.

Ultimate X-Men #4 dipped from the number 5 spot to the number 7 spot. This title is doing far better than I anticipated when Marvel released the information on the new Ultimate Universe titles. I don’t read this title, but much respect for Peach Momoko for creating a comic that is popular with many readers. Normally, Ultimate X-Men’s performance would be big news. It is simply getting overshadowed by a unicorn title in Ultimate Spider-Man.

Ultimate Black Panther #5 dropped from the number 15 spot to the number 32 spot. This is the first big drop in the rankings that we have seen for these new Ultimate Universe titles. Bryan Hill has never had sales success before so we may be starting to see the sales decline of this title. I am going to withhold judgment at this point. The Ultimate Universe titles have been too popular for me to bet against them. Let’s see if Ultimate Black Panther enjoys a rebound in the rankings next month.

Unranked: Batman and Robin and Howard: Summer Breakdown #1

The Batman franchise had two comics in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and six comics in the Top 50. This was better than May 2024 when the Batman franchise had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were up as the Batman franchise had one comic in the Top 10, three comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in June 2023.

However, numbers were down from two years ago as the Batman franchise had three comics in the Top 10, seven comics in the Top 25, and ten comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Let’s start with the Bruce Wayne titles.

Batman #148 dipped from the number 7 spot to the number eight spot. Batman #149 then dipped from the number 8 spot to the number 10 spot. This is completely insane. Shipping two issues of the same title and putting both issues into the Top 10?! Not even Ultimate Spider-Man could pull off that feat.

Batman #150 fell from the number 10 spot to the number 26 spot. There is no reason to panic. Batman shipped THREE issues in this month’s sales chart. It is hard to ship two issues and have both issues score high in the rankings. Shipping three issues and trying to get all of them in the same part of the rankings is impossible. Batman will be back in the Top 10 with the next issue.

Batman Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age #1 had a nice debut taking the number 19 spot. It will be interesting to see what kind of legs this twelve-issue limited series has over the rest of 2024.

Batman Superman World’s Finest #28 ticked up from the number 50 spot to the number 42 spot. This title continues to be a lock for the Top 50.

Detective Comics #1086 climbed from the number 85 spot to the number 61 spot. This was a nice rebound month for this title.

Batman and Robin #10 dropped from the number 65 spot to the number 86 spot. This is the first time that this title has sold outside of the Top 75.

Batman the Brave and the Bold #14 fell from the number 170 spot to the number 198 spot. This anthology title has been a total sales failure. There is a good chance this title will go unranked next month.

Let’s check out the Bat-Boys

Nightwing #115 took the number 46 spot which is the same spot Nighting had in May 2024, too. That is some eerie consistency!

The Boy Wonder #2 plummeted from the number 56 spot to the number 94 spot. I expected this given the poor debut number. Juni Ba failed to hook readers with the debut issue.

But, it got worse as 171 The Boy Wonder #3 fell from the number 94 spot to the number 171 spot. This five-issue mini-series may struggle to even finish ranked in the Top 200.

Red Hood the Hill #5 dropped from the number 127 spot to the number 167 spot. At this point, this six-issue mini-series is just trying to avoid being unranked next month.

Let’s check out the only villain title.

Penguin #11 fell from the number 154 spot to the number 172 spot. At this point, nobody cares about this title other than Tom King. This limited series will come to a merciful end next month.

Let’s hit the team titles.

Birds of Prey #10 fell from the number 77 spot to the number 102 spot. It took ten issues for this title to become a Dead Title Walking. I predicted that this title would struggle to stay in the Top 75 by issue #5. That didn’t happen until issue #9. So, Birds of Prey slightly outperformed my initial expectations. However, this is still a Kelly Thompson comic and Thompson never sells well.

Things then got worse as Birds of Prey #11 fell from the number 102 spot to the number 175 spot. Now, to be fair, shipping two issues in this month’s sales rankings always leads to lower numbers for the second issue. I do think Birds of Prey will enjoy a rebound with the next issue, but it won’t be able to escape the Dead Titles Walking category. I think this is the permanent home for this title.

Outsiders #8 fell from the number 151 spot to the number 190 spot. This is what I expect from any title written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly. It looks like this twelve-issue limited series may be unranked by next month.

Let’s wrap up with the ladies of the Batman franchise.

Poison Ivy #23 dipped from the number 64 spot to the number 65 spot. Poison Ivy #24 fell from the number 65 spot to the number 164 spot. I feel confident that this title will rebound with the next issue and crack back into the Top 100.

Catwoman #66 dropped from the number 102 spot to the number 137 spot. Only two more issues until Howard’s reign of incompetence is over on this title. Catwoman deserves so much better. Here is to hoping that DC Comics’ editorial hires a real superhero comic book writer for this title. Ha! We all know that is not going to happen!

Harley Quinn #41 ticked up from the number 154 spot to the number 150 spot. With Howard getting kicked off of Catwoman, it is time for her to also get thrown off of Harley Quinn.

Superman Franchise

42 Batman Superman World’s Finest #28

47 Superman #15 (House of Brainiac) (Absolute Power)

Unranked: Kneel Before Zod #6

Unranked: Kneel Before Zod #7

The Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50. This was worse than in May 2024 when the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down as the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and three comics in the Top 50 in June 2023.

Numbers were flat in the Top 10, down in the Top 25, and up in the Top 50 from two years ago as the Superman franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Superman #15 dropped from the number 34 spot to the number 47 spot. DC Comics cannot afford to have this title drop out of the Top 50.

Action Comics #1066 fell from the number 22 spot to the number 53 spot. It looks like next month might have both Superman titles selling outside of the Top 50. DC Comics cannot have the Superman franchise fail so soon after the massive push they gave this franchise during the Dawn of DC initiative.

My Adventures with Superman #1 had a brutally awful debut failing to even make the Top 100 and coming in at the number 124 spot. This is no surprise since Josie Campbell is the writer. Campbell might have the worst sales record of any current Marvel Comics to DC Comics writer. Campbell has been able to drive titles into being unranked with breathtaking and unmatched speed. Don’t forget Amazons Attack that just concluded in March 2024. That title managed to be unranked by just the second issue! That is an extreme rarity even on bad titles.

Yeah, it seems impossible to match that feat. But, wait a minute here. My Adventures with Superman #2 fell from the number 124 spot and right out of the Top 200 to end up unranked. Wow. This has to be a record. I am not sure any other writer has accomplished this feat before. Campbell has to be related to somebody high up in Warner Brothers Discovery to still be getting work.

Kneel Before Zod #6 fell from the number 153 spot exited the Top 200 and was unranked. So much for the one-month break from being unranked. Kneel Before Zod #7 was also unranked. This twelve-issue limited series continues to be a total sales failure.

Power Girl #10 fell from the number 119 spot to the number 149 spot. This is the second straight month that Power Girl has declined in the rankings. You mean that Crush’s appearance in this issue didn’t lead to a sales bump? Shocker.

Justice League Franchise

21 Zatanna Bring Down the House #1 (Of 5)

37 Wonder Woman #10

74 Green Lantern #12 (House of Brainiac)

120 Green Arrow #13 (Absolute Power)

133 The Flash #10

170 Justice League Vs Godzilla Vs Kong #7 (Of 7) (Resolicitation)

188 Green Lantern War Journal #10

The Justice League franchise had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50. This was the same as in May 2024 when the Justice League franchise also had zero comics in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down in the Top 10 and Top 25 and flat in the Top 50 as the Justice League franchise had two comics in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in June 2023.

Numbers were also down in the Top 10, flat in the Top 25, and flat in the Top 50 from two years ago as the Justice League franchise had one comic in the Top 10, one comic in the Top 25, and two comics in the Top 50 in June 2022.

Zatanna Bring Down the House #1 had a solid but not spectacular debut coming in at the number 21 spot. I adore Zatanna. She is easily my favorite female DC superhero. Unfortunately, DC Comics saddled Zatanna with Mariko Tamaki as the writer of this title. Tamaki is a slice-of-life writer and has no business writing a mainstream superhero comic book at all. As a result, Zatanna Bring Down the House #1 was predictably boring and slow. The artwork looked more like what you would get in a children’s graphic novel rather than a Black Label superhero comic book.

I have zero faith in Tamaki and found this debut issue to be so dull that I expect Zatanna Bring Down the House to fall rapidly in the sales rankings. Maybe I am in the minority and readers will love this five-issue mini-series. We shall see next month.

Wonder Woman #10 dipped from the number 36 spot to the number 37 spot. This is the lowest sales ranking this title has had up to this point. Having said that, Wonder Woman appears to have found its happy place in the sales rankings. DC Comics will be thrilled if this title continues to be a consistent Top 50 seller.

Let’s check out the dudes of the Justice League franchise.

Green Lantern #12 fell from the number 61 spot to the number 74 spot. This title has not been able to get back into the Top 50 since Green Lantern #8. Four straight months outside of the Top 50 makes me doubtful that this title can regain its juice and become a consistent Top 50 seller again. Also, this month’s sales ranking is the lowest that we have seen for this title to date.

Green Lantern War Journal #10 fell from the number 139 spot to the number 188 spot. This title is being mercifully canceled with Green Lantern War Journal #12. What a complete sales failure this tile has been.

Green Arrow #13 dipped from the number 118 spot to the number 120 spot. This is the second straight month that this title has been in the Dead Titles Walking category. I do not see much hope for this title going forward. Maybe All In will get people excited? I doubt it, though.

The Flash #10 fell from the number 117 spot to the number 133 spot. This is the second consecutive month that this title has been in the Dead Titles Walking category. Simon Spurrier has failed to generate any interest in this title. Unfortunately, DC Comics has already announced that Spurrier will still be the writer of The Flash as a part of the All In initiative. What does All In mean at this point? DC Comics being all in on prior bad decisions? This title needs a new writer.

Mantle Swap Comics

33 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #21 (Blood Hunt) (Marvel Comics)

101 Miles Morales: Spider-Man #22 (Blood Hunt) (Marvel Comics)

110 Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace #4 (Marvel Comics)

111 Superior Spider-Man #8 (Marvel Comics)

160 Captain Marvel #9 (Marvel Comics)

193 Edge of Spider-Verse (2024) #4 (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

200 Spider-Punk: Arms Race #4 (Marvel Comics) (Resolicitation)

Unranked: Blue Beetle #10

There were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was better than May 2024 when there were zero mantle swap comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and zero comics in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down as there was one mantle swap comic in the Top 10, two comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in June 2023.

Blue Beetle #10 fell from the number 174 spot out of the Top 200 and was unranked. So much for Blue Beetle’s solitary month of not being unranked. Normalcy has returned to the comic book market.

Legacy Character Comics

46 Nightwing #115 (DC Comics)

66 Spider-Boy #8 (Marvel Comics)

77 Titans #12 (DC Comics)

171 The Boy Wonder #3 (Of 5) (DC Comics)

175 Birds of Prey #11 (DC Comics)

185 Annihilation 2099 #1 (Marvel Comics)

There were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50. This was the same as in May 2024 when there were zero legacy character comics in the Top 10, zero comics in the Top 25, and one comic in the Top 50.

Year-over-year numbers were down as there was one legacy character comic in the Top 10, four comics in the Top 25, and four comics in the Top 50 in June 2023.

Annihilation 2099 #1 had an embarrassingly awful debut barely even getting ranked in the Top 200 by taking the number 185 spot. Readers were not interested in the prospect of a Steve Orlando reimagining of the iconic Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning story. Shocker.

22 Scarlet Witch #1 (Marvel Comics)

Marvel just edged out DC Comics at the last second for a 5-3 win in this category. This month was just a temporary sales bump for this category. Next month will see both Zatanna and Scarlet Witch drop out of the Top 25. Both Marvel Comics and DC Comics need to hire better writers for these titles if they are serious about making this category a sales success going forward.

Marvel Comics won this pillow fight between two drunk idiots as they beat DC Comics 2-0. Neither publisher should be proud of their performance in this category. DC Comics continues to wave the white flag. Green Lantern War Journal has been canceled, which will then leave DC Comics with just one title in this category.

Dead Titles Walking

This was up from the twenty-six dead titles walking that DC Comics had in May 2024 which comprised 60% of DC Comics’ new titles. Wow. Honestly, I didn’t know it would be possible for DC Comics to hit an all-new rock-bottom number in this category.

The Tini Howard Award For The Writer With The Most Dead Titles Walking

Cheryl Eaton had two comics in Black Panther: Blood Hunt #2 at the number 105 spot and Black Panther: Blood Hunt #3 at the number 166 spot. Marvel Comics keeps striking out with these utterly random writers they find from who knows where.

Kelly Thompson had two comics in Birds of Prey #10 at the number 102 spot and Birds of Prey #11 at the number 175 spot.

Jed MacKay had two comics in Doctor Strange #17 at the number 106 spot and Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #0 at the number 159 spot.

Chris Claremont had two comics in Wolverine: Deep Cut #1 at the number 103 spot and Wolverine: Madripoor Knights #5 at the number 163 spot.

Steve Foxe had two comics in X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #2 at the number 108 spot and Spider-Woman #8 at the number 184 spot.

Simon Spurrier had two comics in John Constantine, Hellblazer Dead in America #6 at the number 122 spot and The Flash #10 at the number 133 spot.

Tini Howard had two comics in Catwoman #66 at the number 137 spot and Harley Quinn #41 at the number 150 spot.

However, two writers tied with four comics in the Dead Walking Titles category.

Cavan Scott had four Dead Titles Walking with Star Wars: The High Republic (Phase III) #8 at the number 132 spot, Union Jack the Ripper: Blood Hunt #2 at the number 148 spot, and Star Wars: The High Republic (Phase III) #9 which was unranked, Batman the Brave and the Bold #14 at the number 198 spot.

Josie Campbell had four comics in My Adventures with Superman #1 at the number 124 spot, Shazam #12 at the number 157 spot, Shazam #13 was unranked, and My Adventures with Superman #2 was unranked. It is phenomenal that just four issues into Campbell’s run she has managed to drive this title into the ground and have it unranked. Shazam was a title that consistently sold between the Top 50 and Top 75 under the Mark Waid. It is also jaw-dropping that Campbell could make My Adventures with Superman unranked by just the second issue! That is hard to do!

Since we have a tie let’s go with the first tie-breaker. The writer who has an anthology title with numerous other writers gets knocked out. That would eliminate Cavan Scott who had an anthology comic in Batman the Brave and the Bold #14 that sported five different writers.

Therefore, the winner of the Tini Howard Award for June 2024 is Josie Campbell the heir apparent to Tini Howard in this category? Maybe. No writer consistently has new titles become unranked faster than Campbell. It’s breathtaking.

All right, that is it for June 2024 Will Marvel Comics continue its domination of the Top 200 in July 2024? We will find out. Until then, everyone stay safe and be good!
