Kafka Hibino has not had the greatest time in the latest Kaiju No. 8 chapters. In the current events Kafka is just holding on to his life after the revived Daikaiju of the Meireki Era using Kaiju No. 9’s body hit him with a fatal blow. The only thing keeping Kafka alive was his kaiju physiology. In his near-death state Kafka has been experiencing the history of the kaiju and the origins of the mysterious larva kaiju that transformed him. Now in the latest chapter of the series, Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 118, Kafka has been given an offer that will change everything for his status quo.
KAFKA HIBINO GETS LIFE CHANGING OFFER!
In the previous chapter of Kaiju No. 8 Kafka Hibino learned that the mysterious larva kaiju that turned him into a Kaiju was a fusion of the regret fallen warriors with a tiny kaiju from the Meireki Era. This revelation answered the question why Kafka was chosen by this larva kaiju. It was because he lacked any sort of power in his DNA to be connect to the Defense Force armor and weapons powered by kaiju parts.
Now because Kafka is in a near-death state the larva kaiju in his body can’t save his life like it did back when Director General Isao Shinomiya pushed Kafka in their fight. This indicates that for as powerful as Kafka is as Kaiju No. 8 he lacks the fast regeneration abilities we’ve seen from other kaiju. It also speaks to how powerful the Daikaiju of the Meireki Era the rest of the Defense Force is fighting that Kafka is in this near-death state.
That is where the amalgamation of the spirits of the fallen warriors offered Kafka a life changing choice. That is in order to survive the fatal blow from the Daikaiju of the Meireki Era they have to transform Kafka Hibino’s heart into his new kaiju core. Taking this offer would mean that Kafka would lose his human side.
Speaking to his hero heart Kafka did not hesitate in the chance to help his friends the Daikaiju even if it meant losing his humanity. Now the question if this change to Kafka Hibino is as permanent as the fallen warriors’ spirits say it is. We’ve at least seen its possible for kaiju’s to take on human forms, as Kaiju No. 9 showed. The warriors’ spirits could have been testing Kafka’s own warrior resolve as it was needed so there was no conflict in creating the new kaiju core. Or it could be a permanent change that there is no going back from.
WHAT WILL THE REACTION TO KAFKA HIBINO’S CHOICE BE?
The ramifications of Kafka Hibino’s choice to transform his human heart into a kaiju core will have serious ramifications. At the top of mind, as the spirts brought up, the reaction of Mina Ashiro and the rest of his friends is going to be something to immediately watch for. In the midst of the battle against Daikaiju this will likely not be the first thing to answer as everyone is busy with the intensity of the battle. But once the dust settles Kafka will have to talk about how he was able to recover from the fatal blow he suffered.
Other than keeping his Kaiju No. 8 identity a secret at the beginning of the series that did not last long. It showed Kafka’s honest heart made it tough for him to keep such big secrets, especially from those he cares about. With how his relationship with Mina has gotten back to the place it was when hey were kids, hiding the decision he made does not seem to be part of Kafka’s nature.
That is where the question of what the reaction will be from those that learn about Kafka’s decision and ramifications for it. We know the Defense Force leadership will treat Kafka’s sacrifice as something they will respect. Rather it puts a bigger target on him, including possibly being experimented on. Which adds to how Mina and the others reaction will be so important. Along with being his friend, they could be the biggest help to Kafka to not suffer from what the Defense Force leadership may want to do to him.
Whatever the reaction is, it’s clear that Kafka Hibino made a life altering decision that will have massive ramifications. They are ramifications that laid the foundation for the future of Kaiju No. 8 after this crisis with the Daikaiju of the Meireki Era is resolved.
