Kaiju No 8 ended 2024 with Kafka Hibino making a life changing decision that could have larger ramifications for his and others future. This decision did not come easy as it came in response to Japan’s Defense Force struggling against the Daikaiju of the Meireki Era. The power of this ancient Daikaiju has proven that it will take more than all of the Defense Force combined powers. Now after returning in the previous chapter the revived Kafka is the last one capable of defeating the Daikaiju. The way Kafka could accomplish that was revealed in Kaiju No 8 Chapter 120.
KAFKA HIBINO SUPER KAIJU NO 8 FORM
Kafka Hibino made his big return fully healed from the fatal wounds he suffered just in time to save the Defense Force fight Daikaiju of the Meireki Era. This development wasn’t lost on anyone. The reactions varied, from Mina Ashiro and Soshiro Hoshina shocked and Gen Narumi glad he at least gave Kafka enough time to finish things off.
While the Defense Force didn’t get a reading of a change in Kafka’s Kaiju power level it was clear there was something different. After all Kafka was able to connect with a punch that damaged the Daikaiju. This was only a hint of Kafka’s greater power.
In what was very reminiscent to when Goku and other Saiyans would experience before going into their Super Saiyan state Kafka remembered his painful childhood memories. We were shown how the kaiju attacks destroyed his hometown and how helpless he felt. After promising his younger self he would fight to make good on his goal to protect others.
And with that we saw Kafka power up his Kaiju No 8 form to the point of breaking his armor shell to reveal his kaiju skin underneath. Based on this appearance it appears that Kafka power up is raising him to a Kaiju level we haven’t seen before. The classic energy burst way the power up happened certainly gave the vibe of Kafka going Super Saiyan. If this lack of armor shell is his final form or we see something else will be up to being shown in the next chapter
NO TURNING BACK FOR KAFKA?
With Kafka going Super Kaiju the question of whether he will be able to return to his human form grows. Afterall, Kafka made it clear right before this power up he has fully committed himself to maximizing his Kaiju No 8 powers.
What the reaction to Kafka’s commitment will be is as interesting as his power up. We already got a teaser of what the reaction may be with how much more Soshiro was a focus compared to other characters in Kaiju No 8 Chapter 120. Soshiro was given dedicated inner monologue time to point out how differently Kafka’s regeneration powers were working to heal his fatal wound. The fact we saw Soshiro’s ancestor in Kaiju No 8 Chapter 117 can’t be forgotten. The way Matsumoto made it a point for Soshiro’s ancestor to be shown in the flashback Kafka experience could be connected. This could be a hint at whatever comes after this Last Wave story arc.
There are a lot of directions that Matsumoto could go from where the 120th chapter leaves the series on. These directions give plenty of room for Kaiju No 8 to tell different stories throughout 2025.
