Marvel Comics April 2025 solicitations are here! One World Under Doom continues its domination of the Marvel Universe. Though Marvel’s big event isn’t the only notable thing going on in April. The month will also see Amazing Spider-Man relaunched and major change for Daredevil. With that in mind, let’s look at the biggest takeaways from Marvel Comics April 2025 comic book solicitations.
GODZILLA TAKES ON HULK & SYMBIOTE SPIDER-MAN
Marvel continues to show their investment in the Godzilla crossover by having the King of the Monsters take on Hulk and Spider-Man in April. What the one-shots with Hulk and Spider-Man show is that Marvel is not restricting the creative teams to telling stories set with the modern day versions of the characters. Rather this series of one-shot is an opportunity for the creative teams to utilize whatever version of these characters they want.
This is seen with the versions of Godzilla that are featured along with 1980s Hulk and Symbiote Spider-Man fresh off Secret Wars. If this is truly the direction of these one-shots than Marvel and Toho have made an excellent call. This adds a sense of fun to the stories as we can see how different versions of Godzilla interacts with the Marvel Universe. It will certainly give the talented artists for these one-shots like Giuseppe Camuncoli and Nick Bradshaw more room to showcase Godzilla in different ways.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN RELAUNCH BEGINS
Though Joe Kelly is the architect of the current “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man” it wasn’t done as the official new ongoing series writer. The way Marvel announced Kelly return to Amazing Spider-Man was framed in a way that this was a transition story arc while finding and giving time for the new ongoing creative team. Well it looks like Marvel editorial was impressed enough with what Kelly developed with “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man” to have him become the new ongoing writer.
Kelly is a natural fit to write Spider-Man. He has a long history with the character from working on Amazing Spider-Man comic during the Brand New Day era to working on the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series as part of Man of Action. Through all of this he has shown a history of his writing style fitting with Spider-Man’s character. It has been further shown with “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man” where even if it is not a home run story arc he’s proven once again to write a great Peter Parker.
Which is where the excitement for this new Amazing Spider-Man run is. Kelly knows the character and shows that through the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #1. It is such a simple thing but featuring Spider-Man’s iconic rogues gallery on the cover of the first issue sends a strong message. Kelly appears to look to tell modern story with all these classic villains starting with Rhino. That along with emphasizing the importance of Peter’s supporting cast is cause for excitement after the previous Amazing Spider-Man run that was mixed at best.
ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM FORCING AVENGERS’ HANDS
What will be an ongoing theme for all of 2025, the One World Under Doom will be what is taking up a big part of the attention in the Marvel Universe. Marvel has fully committed to this by making it a nine-part event that will be monthly. While not every ongoing series is taking part just yet it is clear One World Under Doom is dominating what the direction for the Avengers and Fantastic Four are.
In April the decisions that the Avengers make during the One World Under Doom is taking the spotlight. With Doctor Doom seemingly taking out the Fantastic Four by April it is up to the Avengers to take on the villain. Though that will be easier said than done given that Doctor Doom has created a utopian-like as the world’s dictator.
Given the Earth’s status quo, it does position the Avengers to be villains if the public perception is Doctor Doom has brought positive change to the world. This appears to force the Avengers to round up whatever allies they can get. That includes other Marvel villains that oppose Doctor Doom. It is a move that is being teased the Avengers will do in One World Under Doom #3 which will create even more questions about the endgame for this Marvel event.
WOLVERINE & KITTY PRYDE DYNAMIC DUO REUNION
Chris Claremont continues to return to Marvel not to tell modern day stories but rather classic stories set around the time period his iconic work was done. That is once again happening as Claremont is working on a new Wolverine & Kitty Pryde team-up comic book. There is no hiding this isn’t set in the modern times. Rather Claremont is providing a sequel to his iconic Kitty Pryde & Wolverine 1984 mini-series.
This is honestly the first of Claremont’s return comics that I’ve been genuinely excited for in the last few years. The Kitty Pryde & Wolverine mini-series was one of the first comic books I discovered when getting into the medium as kid. Even though I didn’t read the full run until I later found the full trade this is the mini-series that made Wolverine and Shadowcat among my favorite Marvel characters.
Having this new Wolverine & Kitty Pryde mini-series set in Japan adds to the excitement of Claremont really being in his bag. And promising the debut of several new Marvel characters is sure to entice many collectors to pick this comic book up.
PHOENIX, STORM, & THOR SETTING UP NEXT BIG COSMIC EVENT
Though it is not being directly stated in their respective solicitations there is clear cosmic direction to what is going on with Phoenix, Storm, and Immortal Thor. Things have been generally quiet on the Marvel cosmic side which makes what is going on in Phoenix, Storm, and Immortal Thor stand out more. There are even connections drawn with Thor guest starring in Storm as Ororo seems to be ascending to being beyond an Omega-level mutant.
While the events in Phoenix aren’t necessarily connected to Storm and Immortal Thor they are dealing with greater cosmic dealings. This includes the current developments with Thanos, the Galactic Council, and cosmic heroes like Nova and Captain Marvel. At some point it does seem like all these things will collide in some way.
SETTING STAGE FOR ULTIMATE WOLVERINE AND X-MEN CROSSOVER
2024 for the Ultimate Universe was about setting the foundation for the entire countdown to the Maker’s return. Now 2025 is about building on that foundation through the pillars that are Ultimate Spider-Man, X-Men, Black Panther, Wolverine, and Ultimates. We see that across the five titles Marvel Comics April solicitation with the Maker’s Council fingerprints all over the place.
Ultimate Wolverine appears to be a major wildcard. The Winter Soldier programing that Magik, Colossus, and Omega Red installed appears to be short circuiting. Which leads into developing more of the history of the mutants that continue to hint at being the original rebel group the Maker’s Council have focused on before the Ultimates showed up. Though because of the changes the classic mutants like Shadowcat, Gambit, and Nightcrawler didn’t form the X-Men but a group known as The Opposition.
What goes on with Ultimate Wolverine could set the stage for a crossover with Ultimate X-Men. With Ultimate X-Men diving deeper into the status quo of mutants in the Ultimate Universe there is bound to be a time these two titles crossover. The crossover happening before the Maker’s return would help strengthen their position ahead of the end of 2025 or beginning of 2026 Ultimate Universe event everything is building toward.
DAREDEVIL FRESH START BRINGS BACK CLASSIC COSTUME
April will be a fresh start for Daredevil. Though how well that fresh start will go is anyone’s guess. Especially since Matt is bringing back the controversial black and red armored Daredevil costume back. While it has a cult following now, this version of Daredevil’s costume isn’t among the favorites for most fans. That said, bringing this costume back does further enhance Matt’s character arc of a person emotionally lost.
On a personal level, Matt Murdock being lost after all that he’s been through against the Seven Deadly Sins he’ll be meeting a old love interest. But it won’t be Elektra Natchios as there apparent tensions will likely continue. Instead, based on the cover for Daredevil #20, it will be the returning Nyla Skin who last appeared in the franchise in 1990 Daredevil #289.
Nyla had one of the shorter love interest stints in Matt Murdock’s life. Their relationship only lasted only four issues when Matt was suffering from amnesia and went by the name Jack. Given how their relationship went the first time it will be interesting what happens when they reunite and Matt uses his real name. With the minimal appearance she made Nyla also has plenty of room to develop her character and background.
