My Hero Academia Chapter 430 – A Safe Series Finale

After ten years the finale of My Hero Academia has finally arrived. There is no doubt that with this ten-year run, Kohei Horikoshi left a mark not just in the manga and anime industries but also in the superhero genre as a whole. This series has certainly reached a level that only a few have like its predecessors Dragon Ball and Naruto. Given where things were left after 429 chapters, plus the 126-chapter Vigilantes prequel series, there are many questions about how Horikoshi would end My Hero Academia with Chapter 430. Let’s look at the chapter that carried its series title, My Hero Academia, turned out.

THE STATE OF MY HERO ACADEMIA WORLD

It was to no surprise that My Hero Academia Chapter 430 would end the series with a time jump. In this case, we got an eight-year time jump, six years after Class 1-A graduated UA High School. Immediately what was addressed was what the state of the world was eight years after All For One was finally defeated.

So what was the state of the world? We quickly learned that all our heroes’ efforts to defeat All For One they were able to wipe out most of his influence. While there are still villains around, they are even lower than what they were when All Might was the Symbol of Peace. However, the impact of what Tomura Shigaraki did was not completely forgotten. It is shown that a book titled the “League of Villains” is being sold in bookstores. While not shown who the author is, the book is likely the one Shuichi Iguchi, aka Spinner, promised to write about Shigaraki and the League of Villains legacy in My Hero Academia with Chapter 427.

Even with that book being published thanks to villains no longer being prominent the need for the abundance of Pro Heroes was no longer needed. The Pro Hero career was shown to be something that only a few Quirk users still strive to become. Throughout the chapter, we saw how Japan also has fully recovered from the Final War Saga. Thanks to that stability technology development, medical, and cyber security careers were highly sought after by new generations, possibly even more so than becoming a Pro Hero.

The shift in the Pro Hero career no longer being what the majority of Quirk users strive for shows that Hawks and All Might were successful in changing the status quo. They utilized how important the support and medical-focused people were in defeating All For One to change society. It highlighted how important characters like Mei Hatsume, Dr. Ryu Yoshida, Gentle, and La Brava were to the series. Even if they were more minor characters their impact helped change the world as much as Deku and his friends.

UA HIGH SCHOOL CLASS 1-A FUTURE

Speaking of, My Hero Academia Chapter 430 did show us what happened to Class 1-A in the future. While they weren’t the complete focus we got quite a bit of information. For Izuku Midoriya, he was able to graduate from UA High School with his Class 1-A and others in his generation before the remaining embers of One For All left him. At some point, after he no longer had One For All, Midoriya retired from being a hero and transitioned to being a teacher at UA High School alongside Shota Aizawa.

As for the rest of the former Class 1-A, we got various looks at what happened to them. Some got more time than others. In terms of status quo, they were:

Katsuki Bakugo – After going through intense physical therapy Bakugo regained use of both his arms to achieve his dream as a Pro Hero. Though because his attitude hasn’t toned down Bakugo is having a tough time achieving his full popularity to become the #1 Pro Hero.

Shoto Todoroki – After graduating Shoto has worked hard to make people not think of him as “Endeavor’s son.” While Endeavor’s legacy does follow him he has found enough success that he is more popular than Dynamight, something that frustrates Bakugo.

Mirio Togata – While not appearing it is stated by Mirio has become and maintained the #1 Pro Hero status not long after graduating. It seems like Neito Monoma and Juzo Honenuki are two heroes who are quickly rising in the ranks to compete against Mirio from the new generation of heroes.

Tenya Ida, Momo Yaoyorozu, & Tsuyu Asui – Along with becoming Pro Heroes, Ida, Momo, and Tsuyu are leading the expansion of what Pro Heroes roles in society are, including touring elementary schools to help the next generation.

Ochaco Uraraka – Ochaco joined Ida, Momo, and Tsuyu in expanding Pro Heroes roles. Along with that Ochaco is revealed to be spearheading making Quirk Counseling something available to everyone.

Mezo Shoji – Using his status as a top Pro Hero, Mezo has been revealed to be making a lot of progress in peacefully resolving the discrimination that is still facing Mutant/Heteromorphic Quirk users.

The rest of the Class 1-A and friends we followed are shown to have entered the Pro Hero or technology development fields. The status quo for Ochaco and Mezo are the ones that stand out the most. Both showed some of the biggest impact that was had from the Final War Saga fallout. The improvement for Mutant Quirk users and the mental health of society aren’t things that could be fixed overnight or just in a few years. They are problems that are so deeply rooted in society that will take a lot of time to make them better. Ochaco and Mezo leading both these efforts show the importance of these topics.

On a personal level we do see that while he retired for several years thanks to All Might, Melissa Shield, Bakugo, and his friends Izuku Midoriya was able to eventually continue his hero career. But rather than getting another quirk Melissa Shield, though not named directly, utilized the data from All Might’s final fight against All For One to create hero tech specifically for Izuku. While not getting full Iron Man-style armor, Izuku resumes his career as Deku, now as a Quirkless Pro Hero utilizing support items.

MY HERO ACADEMIA CHAPTER 430 IS A SAFE ENDING

A time jump was not all that surprising thing to see happen for the final chapter of My Hero Academia. This is a typical way to end a manga as long-running as My Hero Academia. While the obvious way to go was what Kohei Horikoshi was building toward since the first chapter with Deku’s opening monologue.

That said, Horikoshi played this ending as safe as possible. Horikoshi just gave us a top-level view of how the world changed. Even how the final few pages frame things it was very much a “There story continues” method. It was meant to give you the feeling that while this was a goodbye to the series Izuku Midoriya and his friends’ stories will go on. By playing it safe Horikoshi doubled down on the pure Shonen angle of the series.

Though the way this finale was framed it won’t be surprising if the true end of My Hero Academia will come in movie form next year or 2026 after the final season of the anime. Horikoshi created a big story idea for the final movie. That is the teased “Cyber War” that took place during the eight-year blank period that propelled La Brava and Gentle fame and is said to have had a major impact on the world. This “Cyber War” could be where Izuku Midoriya used the last embers of One For All as Deku before retiring to become a UA High School teacher. From there we can get an epilogue with the additional things that fans may have wanted from the manga series finale.

Overall while there was more that we could’ve gotten from this finale it does not take away from the impact of this series. Even this finale gave us a lot to remind us why My Hero Academia is such a beloved series. Horikoshi created something magical for many generations to love, enjoy, and share now and in the future.
