No Top 10 this week. I have been slammed at work. This has been one of the craziest months in a long time. I’m amazed that I’ve been able to post as many reviews as I have. Don’t you just hate it when your job gets in the way of important things in life like blogging?

All right, let’s check out the comic books for this week. We have a relatively small week with only 10 titles headed to the Bunker. This week’s shipment of comic books is bit heavier with Marvel titles.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? I’m pretty curious to see what Morrison has in store for us with Batman #675. The much anticipated “Batman R.I.P.” story arc begins next month and I’m getting more and more excited about what Morrison is going to unleash on us.

Now, I cannot believe I am going to say this but, the DC comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Countdown to Final Crisis #1. Now, before everyone breaks out the pitchforks and torches and comes looking to lay siege on the Bunker, I’m not saying that I expect Countdown to Final Crisis #1 to be a good read. I’m just utterly fascinated to see how DC ends this horrendously awful title. And I’m curious to see if anything positive can be salvaged from the wreckage of Countdown that can be used to create an enjoyable foundation for Final Crisis.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Justice League of America #20. This title has been a resolutely average read ever since Meltzer left this title. And it appears that we are in store for a story that is nothing more than pure filler with Justice League of America #20.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? I’m actually looking forward to reading Hulk #3. I know, go ahead, flame away and hammer me for looking forward to Loeb’s Hulk. However, the fact is that I’m actually intrigued to learn more about how Rick Jones became the new Abomination. And I’m also interested in learning more about the red Hulk. This title isn’t anything intelligent or literary. Instead, it is just pure popcorn for the brain.

Uncanny X-Men #497 should be a good read. I’m curious to see what in the hell Brubaker has in store for us with this strange plotline involving the communal acid trip going on in San Francisco. Of course, the plotline involving the three musketeers in Russia should provide us with some good action scenes.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Thor #8. JMS has done a wonderful job with the Thunder God. This title has been an absolute pleasure to read. I’m curious to find out what happens next to Thor during his Odinsleep.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be X-Force #3. I thought we got a solid debut issue, but the second issue read too much like a standard issue comic book. The last issue of X-Force lacked anything special or interesting that would entice me to add this title to The Revolution’s permanent pull list.

As always, I’ll try my best to start posting reviews as soon as possible. I hope everyone enjoys their new comic books for this week.

  1. Huge week for me (possibly a record); 11 titles:

    Checkmate #25
    Fables #72
Hulk vs. Hercules: When Titans Collide
    Justice League of America #20
    Mighty Avengers #12
    Ms. Marvel #26
    Northlanders #5
    Thor #8
    Uncanny X-Men #497
    X-Force #3
    Young Avengers Presents #4

I’m picking up JLA because of Van Sciver and it being a Wonder Woman-centric issue. And, sadly, this is the last issue of Checkmate before Bruce Jones arrives, and I’m running away from that soon-to-be-trainwreck as fast as my legs can carry me.

  2. I’m only picking up X-Men First Class #11 and Fables #72 this week.

Will look at Hulk #3, X-Force #3, Wolverine First Class #2 and Young Avengers Presents #4.

Rokk, did you read Emperor Vulcan? Any thoughts?

Hope work clears up for you soon.

  3. I read Emperor Vulcan. It’s a pretty good story; good characterization of all the main (and even minor) characters; Ch’od, of all people, gets a lot of great lines. The art is nice too. The only real flaw, such as it is, is that it ends on a cliffhanger (presumably setting up some future X-story).
