I stumbled across a list of the Top 10 rural areas to live in. This Top 10 list was compiled by Progressive Farmer. I grew up in Miami and now currently live in an urban neighborhood right next to the downtown of the city I now call home. So, even though I have always lived in urban areas, I have to admit that every once in a while I get the desire to pack up and move to some nice quiet rural area. Anyway, the Top 10 rural areas in America are:

10. La Plata, Colorado
9. Gilchrist Country, Florida
8. Coffee County, Alabama
7. Fayette County, Texas
6. Wexford County, Michigan
5. Columbia County, Pennsylvania
4. Obion County, Tennessee
3. Livingston County, Missouri
2. Ellis County, Kansas
1. Kent County, Maryland

I am only familiar with Gilchrist County, Florida and Kent County, Maryland. Both are certainly nice areas. Oh well, maybe when I’m an old man I will think about moving out to some pretty rural area. But, that ain’t for a long time, baby.

All right, let’s check out the comic books for this week. We have another huge week with 15 titles headed to the Bunker this week. This week’s shipment of comic books is pretty balanced between Marvel and DC titles.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Oh man, this is an extremely tough decision. There are so many great choices. Action Comics #862 should be a good read. Johns showed some hope that he has an exciting finish in store for us with this Legion of Super Heroes story arc.

I always enjoy reading Miller’s All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder. And issue #9 should be no exception. This title is certainly an acquired taste and won’t appeal to many fans. Personally, I always get a kick out of Miller’s unrepentantly over the top take on the goddam Batman.

I’m also looking forward to Batman #674. Morrison is giving us one bizarre read with this current story arc. I’m curious to see what Morrison is going to do with Batman as we head toward Final Crisis.

Of course, Justice Society of America #13 should be a quality read. Last issue was not all that amazing; however, this title has been a solid title that has always delivered dependable reads. I hope that Johns is able to get back to form with this issue.

However, the DC comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Legion of Super Heroes #39. Shooter and Manapul have been absolutely fantastic with their first two issues on this title. Shooter has managed to completely reinvigorate a flagging title and make this one of DC’s more exciting reads. I honestly can’t remember the last time when the Legion of Super Heroes has been this good of a read. It is great to see this classic franchise finally claiming some of its old glory.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? None. Seriously, DC is rolling strong this week. This is one excellent selection of DC comic books headed to the Bunker.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? This is also a tough question since we have several interesting titles headed our way from the House of Ideas. I always look forward to the latest issue of Daredevil. Brubaker is so consistently good on this title. And I’m sure that Daredevil #105 will be no exception.

I have really been impressed with JMS’ Thor. With the exception of just one issue, Thor has been a well crafted read. I’m sure that JMS will serve up another fine read with Thor #6.

I’m certainly looking forward to Ultimate Spider-Man #119. This title is perfectly suited to Bendis’ talents and it showcases his best work. I loved the last issue with the Ultimate universe of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.

Of course, the comic book that I’m most looking forward to reading is Captain America #35. Brubaker is working pure magic on this title. I am enjoying Bucky in his role as the new Captain America. There is no doubt that this issue should be another fantastic read.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? None. Marvel does a good job matching DC this week as the House of Ideas is not rolling out anything with any glaring defects this week.

Seriously, this is a fantastic week of comic books. It is rare that I am all pumped up to read each and every issue headed to the Bunker. I love Wednesdays like this! I’ll try my best to start posting reviews as soon as possible. I hope everyone enjoys their new comic books for this week.

  1. And what exactly is the criteria for those top ten rural areas? Bismarck, ND is ranked among the top “small cities” and I think we’d definitely qualify as “rural,” especially by your standards (i.e. you live in a place that might only consider two cities in the US being relevant).
