Getting our new comic books on Thursday last week left me with one day less to post reviews. Add to that an increasingly busy summer at work (The senior partner is having me work with him on more of his files. Good for my career, but bad for this blog) and the result is me struggling to post my usual seven reviews a week. This led me to re-think how I run things at The Revolution. So, I figured I would open a poll and ask everyone for their input about the direction of The Revolution.

I figure that I can review every title that I read, but that means that the synopsis of each issue and my commentary will be much shorter than in one of my normal reviews. Or, I can try to review more than seven titles a week, but not quite every issue I get and either keep the synopsis detailed and scale back the commentary or I can scale back the synopsis and keep the commentary the same. Or I can keep my regular style of detailed reviews and simply post as many as I can in a week. Some weeks might be three reviews and others might be seven reviews.

There are your four options. Vote away and give me your feedback. The Revolution serves its followers and the purpose of this blog is to try and encourage people to spend their money wisely and possibly give a new title a try that is worthy of your money. Of course, I have thought about bringing on other reviewers to The Revolution, but I have not decided if the followers of The Revolution would enjoy reviews from multiple reviewers. And adding additional reviewers would require me to go search for people interested in posting reviews on this blog.

All right, it looks like we have a total of 12 titles headed to the Bunker. This week is slightly heavier with Marvel titles. This appears to be a pretty solid selection of titles for this week.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? I am excited about Tangent: Superman’s Reign #5. I have really enjoyed this fun little tale. Of course, I am a sucker for any story that involves travelling to a multiple Earth.

However, the DC comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Final Crisis: Rogues Revenge #1. How can I not be excited about this mini-series? It is Geoff Johns writing the Flash’s Rogues. You know that this title is going to be tacos in the bank.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Batman and the Outsiders #9. This title has been a real disappointment. First, there was the unexpected writer switch just prior to issue #1 being released. Now, we learn that not even a year into this title and Dixon is being replaced. A lack of stability at the writer position often spells the doom for a comic book.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Even though it appears that very few people are excited about Marvel 1985, I certainly am and I am looking forward to Marvel 1985 #3. I think that Millar is delivering a well crafted little story that focuses on strong character work rather than on big explosions.

Even though the last issue of X-Factor was a disappointment, I still am looking forward to X-Factor #33. David has been so impressive on this title and I cannot believe that he is going to turn in back-to-back disappointing issues on this title.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Captain America #40. Brubaker continues to amaze me with his excellent work on this title. And I cannot wait to see Bucky locking horns with the 1950’s Captain America in this issue.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? This is an easy choice: Amazing Spider-Man #566. This title just continues to amaze me in how it can reach all new lows in storytelling with each issue. I have to admit that I find the little teenage girl version of Kraven the Hunter to be an incredibly annoying character.

As always, I’ll try my best to start posting reviews as soon as possible. I hope everyone enjoys their new comic books for this week.

  1. You should keep the reviews the way it is. Just reviews less and then with a line or two mention the really bad comics that we should avoid and those that you’ve praised constantly. So you can do full review for Final Crisis Rogue’s Revenge, Trinity, perhaps a new Thor (haven’t seen that in a while and I love Thor) and then mention how Captain America is still an awesome read and how Amazing Spiderman is still horrid. Once in a while if the status of a comic changes then do a full review. So if Amazing Spiderman somehow gets better or there is a writing team change, then do a full review.

  2. I was away on vacation last week, so I had to get two weeks worth of comics today. My choices:

    Action Comics #867

    Trinity #s 6 and 7

    Secret Invasion #4

X-Factor #33, which is a new title for me (I’ve never been much of a mutant fan), but it’s an SI tie-in and a She-Hulk crossover, and I follow both of those titles

    Mighty Avengers #16

I may still get the FC tie-ins, if next week is a slow one, but I didn’t want to shell out too much coin in one week.

  3. I’m for more reviews however we can get them, but this has to be about what makes you the happiest. If you enjoy taking the time to go in depth but on fewer books, do it no matter how we vote. If you try to make us happy and burn out in six months, no one wins.

Besides, the only thing that matters is that someone tells me when Conner Kent comes back.

  4. I wanted to ask… Is “winning” the award for worst comic of the week still worth a congratulations?

Also, I won’t ruin it, but… Trinity #7 had a nice surprise in the second story that just might make the whole thing worth it. I’ll just say this: They’ve got me hooked so tightly with one set of images that I’ll never be able to drop this book.

  5. I agree with heffison that it comes down to you doing what you like best. That said, as I voted, we probably don’t need to know quite every detail of the synopsis. I prefer to see what you think.

Another idea since you are pressed for time is that we could vote on what comics we’d like to see reviewed (not that you’d have to only do those, just to make sure you hit the top one or two in addition to the ones you really want to review).
