I am psyched to announce that we have a new member of The Revolution. He has a bitchin’ beard, one of the coolest costume designs and is no longer crazy thanks to Gog’s magical healing powers. That’s right; I am talking about Thom Kallor! Thom has agreed to post several reviews a week here at The Revolution. I gladly welcome the help.

I think that everyone will dig the perspective that Thom brings to his reviews. Tenzil and I have finished clearing a little space here in the Bunker in order to make way for our newest member. I am sure that Thom will find himself at home here at the Bunker in short order. Of course, hopefully, Thom won’t mind the fact that Tenzil rarely wears pants and spends most of his time on the sofa playing the Wii, drinking Mountain Dew and snacking on pork rinds.

Speaking of Tenzil, I have convinced him to start contributing with a weekly opinion column concerning the current events in the comic book industry. I realized that I strictly do reviews and that it might be nice to have a weekly opinion column here at The Revolution. Of course, it will cut into Tenzil’s Wii playing time here at the Bunker which might make him more irritable then usual.

All right, it looks like we have a total of 12 titles headed to the Bunker. This week is evenly split between Marvel and DC. This appears to be a pretty solid selection of titles for this week.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? I am looking forward to reading Justice League of America #23. McDuffie impressed me with a strong effort on the last issue. It seems that this title might finally be starting to build a little momentum with this current story arc.

As always, I am looking forward to Shooter’s latest issue of the Legion of Super Heroes. I suspect that Legion of Super Heroes #44 will be another enjoyable read. We should be in store for plenty of action with this issue.

However, the DC comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Superman #678. I enjoyed Robinson’s debut issue on this title and this was the first time I had fun reading an issue of Superman in quite some time. I fully expect Robinson to deliver a quality read with this issue.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Green Lantern Corps #26. Now, this is certainly not a bad title. But, it is rather average and has failed to hook my attention.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Brubaker always delivers a technically sound read on Daredevil. And I expect nothing less with Daredevil #109. This current story arc has grown on me and has certainly exceeded my initial expectations.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Uncanny X-Men #500. Matt Fraction is coming aboard this title to join Brubaker. Now, unlike many fans, I fail to see what is so special about Fraction’s writing. I know that I am in the extreme minority, but I find Fraction to be way overrated.

I view Fraction as a dependable and average journeyman writer. I have yet to be impressed on anything he has done outside of his work with Brubaker. His Invincible Iron Man is an average read while his work on Punisher: War Journal was practically unreadable.

Still, Fraction and Brubaker did a great job on together on Iron Fist. Hopefully, Brubaker and Fraction can generate that same kind of magic and spruce up Uncanny X-Men which has easily been Brubaker’s weakest title. And since most fans love Fraction, I am sure his arrival on Uncanny X-Men will provide a nice sales boost for this title.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Ultimate X-Men #96. This title has struggled to grab my attention. At this point, other than Ultimate Spider-Man, all of the rest of the Ultimate titles have seemed to outlive their usefulness.

As always, I’ll try my best to start posting reviews as soon as possible. I hope everyone enjoys their new comic books for this week.

  1. My new books this week:

New Avengers #43: I’ve already read it, and found it quite disappointing. Which is a shame, as NA #41, which was the first part of this story, totally rocked. More on that if you post your own review.

Thunderbolts #122: I’ve heard much about the Thunderbolts, good and bad, and they seem to be an integral part of the current Marvel Universe, so I thought I’d finally check them out for myself.

Trinity #8: Unlike with many other readers, this title just seems to work for me. Plus, it helps balance out my Marvel to DC ratio.

Super Friends #5: As does this title. My 5-year-old daughter loves for me to read these issues to her.

Avengers: The Initiative #15: Tried this title for the first time last month, and I enjoyed it, so I’ll keep with it for at least another issue.

Marvel Adventures Super Heroes #1: I’ve been wanting to sample an MA title for some time, as some readers find them to be funny and a refreshing change of pace, so I might as well start with a #1. Plus, it could be another good comic to read with my daughter.

She-Hulk #31: Part two of the Shulkie/X-Factor crossover and SI tie-in. Last week’s X-Factor was a disappointment (then again, I’m not familiar with them), so I hope the Shulkster will entertain.

  2. Fraction and Bru, together again? That’s good news to me. I am actually not impressed with Brubaker. He’s a solid craftsman, but he’s stories are boring and unoriginal.

Fraction on the other hand is full of cool ideas, but they are shoe-horned in his stories, willy-nilly.

Put them together, and they cancel out each other’s weakness.
