I stumbled across a list of the Top 10 most admired companies.

10. Goldman Sachs
9. Johnson & Johnson
8. Proctor & Gamble
7. FedEx
6. Starbucks
5. Toyota
4. Google
3. General Electric
2. Berkshire Hathaway
1. Apple

This Top 10 list was compiled by Fortune and its survey partners at Hay Group who questioned more than 3,700 people from dozens of industries. I have to admit that I am a total Apple whore. I love just about everything that Steve Jobs trots out. I have also been impressed with how Google has managed their company and their growth. However, I don’t really care much about the rest of the companies in this list.

All right, let’s check out the comic books for this week. We have another large week with 12 titles headed to the Bunker this week. This week’s shipment of comic books is pretty balanced between Marvel and DC titles.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? I have to admit that I’m actually interested in seeing what happens in Countdown to Final Crisis #8. Dini is at least doing his best to give this lackluster title an exciting finish.

However, the DC comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Green Lantern #28. Johns is white hot on Green Lantern and this title is easily DC’s most consistently good reads. I am curious to see how the Lanterns react to the new Alpha Lanterns. And we all know that Johns always introduces a new wrinkle in just about every issue of Green Lantern.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Nightwing #142. This title isn’t horrendous; it is simply lacking anything special. This title is just an average read. And Nightwing’s character feels stale. Poor Dick Grayson is stuck in neutral as DC has still not figured out a proper role for his character within the DCU.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Moon Knight #16 should be another good read. Mike Benson has done a fine job replacing Charlie Huston as the writer of this title. X-Force #2 should also be a quality read. I was rather surprised at how enjoyable the debut issue of X-Force was.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Uncanny X-Men #496. I’m curious to see what in the world Brubaker has in store for us with this strange time warp plotline. If nothing else, this issue should have some nice kitsch value.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? Amazing Spider-Man #552 doesn’t particularly excite me. This title is quickly losing any and all of my interest. I think the three times a month format is a mistake. I’m also not that impressed with the more juvenile 1970’s styled writing on this title.

Punisher War Journal #17 is another issue that I’m not all that excited to read. This title has been average at best. Unless Fraction can show me something special on this title, I think that dreaded axe will have to cut this title off from The Revolution’s permanent pull list.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am least looking forward to is The Twelve #3. Like many JMS titles, they begin with tons of potential and then rapidly de-evolve into the three “P’s” of JMS’ writing: plodding, predictable and preachy. The Twelve is quickly following that path.

This week is nowhere near as strong as last week. However, we still have some nice reads headed out way. I’ll try my best to start posting reviews as soon as possible. I hope everyone enjoys their new comic books for this week.

  1. Advisory: this month’s issue of UXM spoils the end of Astonishing X-Men, at least on the “who dies” score, not that most fans hadn’t already guessed it. That’s the price of late books, I suppose.

  2. Mike Choi posted on CBR forums that he assumed it meant she was dead, but was reminded by Brubaker that the wording is ambiguous (he doesn’t know what happens), so “lost” could mean something else, I suppose (though I was quite certain it was stated someone would die in this story, but I could be wrong).
