I finally saw the little preview clip of the new animated series Wolverine and the X-Men. Wow! Talk about a sweet looking cartoon. It appears that Marvel is cramming just about every character connected to the X-Men into this series. I am definitely excited for this cartoon’s debut. My only complaint is the title. It should just be the “X-Men.”
All right, let’s check out the comic books for this week. We have 13 titles headed to the Bunker. This week’s shipment of comic books offers a paltry amount of DC titles and is loaded down with Marvel titles. Seriously, this is about as unbalanced a week of titles that The Revolution has seen in a long time.
Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Well, with just three titles this week there really isn’t much of a choice. And these three titles headed from DC are a pretty weak group of titles. I’m going to go with Detective Comics #844. I am highly intrigued with this budding relationship between Zatanna and Batman that Dini has brewing on this title. Personally, I am all for a full blown romantic relationship between the two characters.
Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Nightwing #144. I don’t find this title to be terrible. It is just a resolutely average read. It would be nice if DC could ever find a proper place for Nightwing within the DCU.
Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Wow, what a tough decision to make. We have an insanely good selection of comic books headed our way from the House of Ideas. Seriously, this is one of the strongest group of comic books that I have seen Marvel serve up in one week.
Nova #13 should be another good read. DnA are doing such a great job on this title. It is wonderful to see Marvel’s cosmic characters finally getting the proper treatment from two writers who clearly like the characters.
Mighty Avengers #13 is another Secret Invasion tie-in issue. Once again we will be focusing on Nick Fury and that is definitely a good thing. Evidently, we will also be getting a new version of the Howling Commandos. This should certainly be an interesting read.
It appears to be the week of Iron Man. The movie debuts last weekend and now we get two new Iron Man titles this week. Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas #1 should be a fun read. Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man, is the writer for this mini-series. Since I loved Favreau’s version of Tony Stark in the movie, I’m sure that I will enjoy this mini-series.
The other Iron Man headed our way is Invincible Iron Man #1. Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca team up to bring us this new Iron Man monthly. Without a doubt, I have some serious reservations about this title. However, my giddiness over all the attention that Iron Man is now receiving outweighs those reservations. Hopefully, Invincible Iron Man #1 will deliver the goods.
Secret Invasion #2 should be another fun read. Bendis is delivering a fun summer blockbuster styled story. I have maintained low expectations for this big event from the start. And that has enabled me to enjoy this story much more than I would have imagined.
However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Avengers Invaders #1. This is another title brought to us by Krueger and Ross. The artwork is being supplied by Steve Sadowski. I enjoyed Sadowski’s artwork on Project Super Powers #0 so I’m sure he will deliver a good looking issue. And I have pretty much loved Krueger’s work on just about everything he has done including the Earth X trilogy, Justice and Project Super Powers. There is no doubt that Krueger will serve up a well crafted story.
Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? Amazing Spider-Man #558 does nothing to excite me. I find the Freak to be a mind numbingly lame villain. This Brand New Day story continues to languish in mediocrity. I have no faith that this title is going to become a quality read anytime soon.
However, the title that I am least looking forward to reading is Cable #3. This title is rapidly losing my interest. The story is flat and one-dimensional and the pacing is hardly moving at a quick pace. Unless this title suddenly hooks me into the story there is a good chance that it will fall victim to The Revolution’s dreaded axe.
Of course, this week The Revolution is sampling a title from an independent press, which as loyal followers of The Revolution know is a rare moment for us. The comic book that I am the most intrigued to read this week has to be The Man With No Name #1. Christos Cage is handling the writing duties and Wellington Dias is providing the artwork. I am a huge fan of the Clint Eastwood westerns. And that is unusual, because in general I don’t like westerns at all. But, the Eastwood westerns are unlike any others.
The Man with No Name is one of the coolest characters in movies, books or comic books. Without the Man with No Name half of the modern comic book characters that we love would not even exist. In particular one short, hairy and claw wielding mutant. I think that Christos Cage is a talented writer and I have confidence in his ability to deliver a good read.

I forget… Is the Avengers/Invaders supposed to be in the current stream of events in the Marvel universe? (By the way, that’s a priceless look on Luke’s face.)
You pretty much have to count the X-characters who aren’t in that trailer (major ones I noted were Psylocke, Havok, Bishop and Cable, but since Xavier is in the future I expect to see one or both of the latter two), we really have arrived at Nerdvana. I can’t wait for this cartoon; it’s got the big guns, b-list characters like Polaris (who even appears twice), even Dust from “New/Young X-Men”.
