BOOM! Studios Preview: Power Rangers Prime #1

A new era will begin in November as Power Rangers Prime by the creative team of writer Melissa Flores and artist Michael Yg for BOOM! Studios. The launch of the new Power Rangers series answers the question of what is next for the franchise. Now ahead of its November 23rd release BOOM! Studios has provided us with a preview of Power Rangers Prime #1 to share.

As we see from the preview BOOM! Studios appear to be taking the opportunity with how Flores’ Darkest Hour event ended to give a fresh start to the Power Rangers Universe. The vibes of Power Rangers Prime #1 certainly gives the vibes of what we are seeing with Marvel’s Ultimate Universe and DC Comics Absolute Universe.

While the preview is textless based on the covers the lead character, we appear to be following is a new version of Lauren Shiba from Power Rangers Super Samurai. This isn’t too surprising given that back in Shattered Grid we saw how much untapped potential Lauren Shiba’s character has when she teamed with the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers against Lord Drakkon. Flores and Yg having Lauren as one of the lead characters is a great way to tap into that potential we saw in Shattered Grid.

What is surprising is that it appears in this new future that the Eltarians have become a policing force on Earth. This is possibly a response to the events of Darkest Hour as the Eltarians view Earth as the center of the universe because of all the BOOM! Studios Power Rangers events. This creates a lot of questions around the status quo of the Power Rangers and what characters we will see join Lauren as leads and supporting cast members.

Check out the textless preview of Power Rangers Prime #1 by Flores and Yg along with covers from an all-star line-up of artists that include Dan Mora, Juni Ba, InHyuk Lee, Bon Bernardo, Joëlle Jones, Rafael Albuquerque, and more below.

Power Rangers Prime #1 is scheduled to be released in comic book shops and digital storefronts on November 13, 2024. Get more information about the new Power Rangers series and quotes from the creative team in BOOM! Studios press release below.

Power Rangers is BACK and better than ever!

Angel Grove University students face a difficult choice after crossing paths with a fugitive straight out of legend. The consequences for hiding her are dire…but her existence may not stay secret for long.

“What did I do to deserve drawing a Power Rangers book? Seriously! Back in the 90s, kids of my age in China got only a handful of American shows and cartoons and they were simply priceless! We’d rush back home from school to catch them regardless how pissed our parents were for not spending the time studying. But I had no regrets, because Power Rangers was one of the best,” said Power Rangers Prime series artist, Micahel Yg. “Now, not only am I drawing it, but the book is also written by the unbelievably talented Melissa Flores, and designed by Dan Mora, one of my favorite artists out there these days that I look up to. So it is for the team, for my younger self, and most importantly for you, that I’m putting my absolute heart and soul into this book! I can’t wait for you to read it.”

POWER RANGERS PRIME #1 will be available in comic shops November 13, 2024. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including Kindle, iBooks, and Google Play.

Power Rangers is an integral part of BOOM! Studios’ DNA, and in the wake of the finale of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, we were never going to stop telling new and exciting ongoing stories,” said Power Rangers Editor, Allyson Gronowitz. “Melissa and Michael are putting together the most ambitious, ongoing Power Rangers story yet. It’s a brand-new era, a brand-new story, and I hope you all come along for the ride!”
