Spider-Man Unlimited Infinity Comic #43 – #46 by writer Stephanie Williams and artist Julian Shaw delivered story with Spidey teaming up with Misty Knight. The spark to this team-up was some cosmic-level tech being stolen that Peter Parker discovered. That led Peter to seek out Misty Knight to help investigate what exactly is being stolen and for what purpose. All of that set-up led Spider-Man and Misty Knight fighting Puppet Master, the mastermind that controlled Shocker among others to help his plans.

The story itself was a fun, classic superhero vs supervillain narrative. What took the story to the next level was the chemistry between Spider-Man and Misty Knight. Stephaie Williams quickly established how they treated each other as equals. Both had a respect for the others skills and abilities. Which is a rare relationship for Spidey, who we see often with eye rolling mentality. Misty Knight was different as she was 100% open o working with Spider-Man.

It was genuinely refreshing for a superhero team-up. Both from their back-and-forth banter to team-up attacks, we saw how well Spider-Man and Misty Knight complemented each other. This led to even when Puppet Master gained control of Spider-Man that it didn’t cause the friendship we saw suddenly break their friendship. Showing a clear head Misty Knight was able to figure out how to stop Puppet Master. This in turn left Misty Knight and Spider-Man to leave on stronger terms as they stopped the villain through their team effort, as Misty Knight said.

This latest Spider-Man Unlimited story, titled “Spider’s Knight,” once again highlights what has made this Marvel Unlimited exclusive series so much fun. Sure there is the typical focus on the struggles of personal and superhero life, especially when we get a Peter Parker story. But the cool thing about the Spider-Man Unlimited Infinity Comic is that it doesn’t get drowned by that like other titles in the franchise. There is a bit more freedom to that has been felt in the storytelling to be about telling fun, engaging superhero stories.

This team-up with Misty Knight once again highlighted this aspect of the series. Stephanie Williams and Julian Shaw emphasized what the dynamic between Spider-Man and Misty Knight as superhero peers. That’s something we’ve seen with other heroes like She-Hulk and even other Spider-Men that have shown up in this series. What is he dynamic different personalities share? Because believe it or not, creative teams don’t always have to go with the “world hates Peter Parker and Spider-Man” angle with the franchise.

For Spider-Verse fans, part of the freedom of the series is that we do get to see other characters than just Earth-616 Peter Parker. Quietly we’ve seen a crossover between Earth-616 and Insomiac’s Spider-Man take place. There’s also been a revisiting of the Renew Your Vows timeline and other Spider-Man family characters.

Each story being told by a different creative team has certainly pushed the idea that Spider-Man Unlimited is the series where Marvel is letting creators play with the franchise sandbox. For those looking for fun adventures with the mainline Peter Parker make sure to check out Spider-Man Unlimited.
