It’s never to early to start getting ready for Halloween. With that in mind, BOOM! Studios has provided us with an early look at The Creeping Below #1, a series that mixes black metal, magic, and Norse mythology. The new series releasing in October will be brought to us by the creative team of writer Brian Azzarello, artist Vanesa Del Rey, colorist Hilary Jenkins, and letterer AndWorld Design.
The Creeping Below is said to be a revenge story that takes inspiration from other classic comic boks like the Swamp Thing and The Crow. The revenge story approach mixing a revenge story with black metal, magic, and Norse mythology themes is further spoken about in the first issue’s solicitation:
In nature there are gods older than the devil… Nothing can prepare you for what’s coming in this violent, electrifying descent into this bloody, black metal infused revenge saga. Val, an American metalhead attending a festival in Oslo, begins her penumbrous pilgrimage into the vast depths of vengeance.
After her victimization at the hands of a charismatically vile local band, the Old Gods of Norse Mythology guide her along her path in the name of women everywhere. Will she walk a warrior’s path… or become a behemoth beyond human recognition?
The Creeping Below #1 main cover will be handled by series artist Vanesa Del Rey. Additionally, variant covers by highly acclaimed artists Maria Llovet, Mike Deodato Jr., and Jae Lee and June Chung will also be available upon its October release.
