State of Ultimate Universe Asgard - Ultimate Invasion #2

The Ultimates #7 Sets Up Asgard War In Ultimate Universe

The Ultimates #7 saw the team taking a step back to process their loss to Ultimate Hulk. For Thor Odinson and Lady Sif they decided to go back home. Though that isn’t a happy return home due to the fact Thor is an escape prisoner and Lady Sif was his assigned warden. This status quo meant that since Lady Sif never brought Thor back to Asgard as a prisoner both are likely not on the best terms with their home planet. It is a story that has been avoided for the entire first year but now with The Ultimates #7 it appears Thor and Sif’s status quo will be addressed in 2025.

The Ultimate Invasion event where The Maker transformed the Earth-6160 reality the new Ultimate Universe largely focused on Earth. That set the tone for how the majority of all the Ultimate Universe titles have focused on the status quo on Earth. Specifically, how The Maker’s Council has continued to have control over things even with their leader’s absence.

That said we have gotten some brief glimpses at how The Maker’s reach also extended to the cosmic side of the Ultimate Universe. One of the biggest moves The Maker made when he took over was helping Ultimate Loki become All-Father of Asgard and have Thor Odinson branded as a traitor forced to give up Mjolnir and be imprisoned.

The state of Asgard was all seen in a couple brief panels in Ultimate Invasion #2. The opening of the Ultimate Universe one-shot got a more into Thor’s status quo as a prisoner and now technically on-the-run with his warden, Lady Sif, following him. That was all on top of learning that The Maker also made sure the Bifrost bridge was destroyed.

Given how Lady Sif and the Asgardian warriors reacted to Thor’s breakout there was very little respect had to the God of Thunder. This along with the Bifrost’s destruction points to The Maker possibly wanting the Ultimate Universe’s Earth to be cut off from the rest of the universe. It is something that is teased with the fact The Maker also made sure Carol Danvers didn’t become Captain Marvel.

WAR AGAINST THE MAKER’S COUNCIL GOES BEYOND EARTH

With all of that has been established, The Ultimates #7 gave us a bit more insight into Asgard and the cosmic side of the Ultimate Universe. That in a one-page splash of Thor and Sif traveling to the Yggdrasil tree after telling Doctor Doom they’ve neglected the Nine Realms for too long. This was a slight lie on Sif’s part, as she used that as an excuse for her and Thor to begin The Asgardian Rebellion against All-Father Loki.

With Sif straight up calling her plan “The Asgardian Rebellion” it sets the stage for what could be a 2025 event for the Ultimate Universe. Given how quickly Sif has turned from being a “loyal” prison warden to hero who fights alongside Thor shows that All-Father Loki doesn’t have 100% support on Asgard. This could play into how The Maker helped Loki obtain the All-Father title and brand Thor a traitor.

Calling their cause a rebellion hints that Sif knows of others that are others not happy with All-Father Loki’s rule. It would be the perfect spot for the introduction of the Ultimate Warriors Three and Valkyrie to be introduced as part of the Asgardian Rebellion. This in turn could help provide the Ultimates with much needed allies given how they got clowned out by Ultimate Hulk recently.

At the same time, The Asgardian Rebellion story can help build out what The Maker did on a cosmic level in the Ultimate Universe. Asgard is likely not the only place that The Maker helped make changes to given other classic Marvel heroes importance. Getting into the cosmic side of things can help build out The Maker’s Return event that is being built to take place in 2026.

With how import Asgard is to the Marvel Universe, The Asgardian Rebellion story can play a key part of what the future of the Ultimate Universe will be. With Thor Odinson and Lady Sif leading this rebellion against All-Father Loki rule the Ultimates list of things to tackle has grown bigger than even they know.
