Top Takeaways From DC Comics March 2025 Solicitations

DC Comics March 2025 solicitations are here! The third month of 2025 for DC Comics looks to be the biggest of their new year. That is partially thanks to the first two months of 2025 being a time where different stories are either ending or still cooking. Now with March it appears we are getting a lot of payoffs and starts that fans will be excited to see happen. With that in mind let’s look at the biggest takeaways from DC Comics March 2025 comic book solicitations.

JEPH LOEB & JIM LEE RETURN FOR BATMAN HUSH SEQUEL

DC Comics did not waste time answering what comes after Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jimenez well received Batman run. That answer came in the form of Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee returning for a sequel to their critically and commercially well-regarded Batman: Hush story. Hush is one of the most iconic Batman stories told in the last 25 years. The story has certainly stood the test of time as many ramifications of that event are still being felt today.

With how impactful the storyline has been to the Batman franchise it’ll be interesting to see what a sequel to the storyline will be. The biggest one will be Hush himself. Afterall, post-Hush storyline Thomas Elliot lost a lot of his credibility over time with how often the various members of the Batman Family defeated him. How Loeb and Lee build Thomas Elliot’s credibility without simply retreading on his gimmick that was driven into the ground post-Hush will be something to watch.

That is something that it appears Loeb and Lee are aware of. Because in teasing this sequel Hush is going to be targeting major members of the Batman Family not just the Dark Knight himself. This does indicate there is some self-awareness as Hush may use his losses to Batman, Catwoman, and Nightwing to fuel his new plans. The same old same old will not work this time.

FLASH, GREEN LANTERN, & MARTIAN MANHUNTER JOIN ABSOLUTE UNIVERSE

It was only a matter of time before the Absolute Universe would expand beyond the Trinity. That starts in March with Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter join in on the Absolute Universe fun.

Of these titles Absolute Martian Manhunter stands out as even in the DCU he hasn’t had the long-term solo success as his Justice League counterparts. This could be the best thing for Deniz Camp, who has already shown to be able to take classic characters and make them something new with his current work on The Ultimates. What Camp and artist Javier Rodriguez do to establish Absolute Martian Manhunter to reinvent the character will show the true power of the Absolute Universe.

For Absolute Green Lantern, this series has the most potential to show us how much Darkseid’s influence changed the entire Absolute Universe, not just Earth. With a new Green Lantern Corps in the main DCU launching a month prior it’ll be interesting how Al Ewing and Jahnoy Lindsay distance Absolute Green Lantern from its main counterpart. This puts even more on how Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Jo Mullein as a trio of leads “without the ring…without the willpower” to define what the Absolute Green Lanterns are.

Then there is Absolute Flash. The hook for this is seeing why Wally West, not Barry Allen, is the Absolute Flash. Given how young Bruce Wayne, Diana Prince, and Kal-El are in the Absolute Universe this means we are getting a teenage Flash in Wally. A teen Wally assuming the Flash identity could define how we see the next generation of heroes in the Absolute Universe positioned in the future.

AQUAMAN & ATLANTIS CONNECTION TO DARKSEID

Of all the new covers we got in DC Comics March 2025 solicitations the one that stood out most was the cover for Aquaman #3. Specifically the cover with a closeup to Aquaman’s face that shows the omega symbol in his bloodshot eyes. These omega symbols directly brings up connections Aquaman possibly has with Darkseid.

The Darkseid Omega symbols being featured on the cover create even more questions around why Atlantis disappeared. It is possible that Darkseid viewed Atlantis as a threat to what he is planning to do. It would certainly elevate Aquaman’s franchise to have a more cosmic connection through Darkseid. A cosmic connection very much needed with how easily Aquaman’s franchise has been forgotten in recent years.

LEGION OF DOOM RETURN TO BATTLE JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED

With how unified the heroes are under the Justice League Unlimited banner it was only a matter of time before the villains did something similar. That is finally happening as the classic Legion of Doom organization is making its return in March’s Justice League Unlimited #5.

Based on the solicitation it does look like we are getting the classic line-up of the Legion of Doom. This brings to question if the Legion of Doom will feature any new energy to join their ranks. Afterall, they are now fighting a Justice League that has united all of the heroes in the DC Universe, both young and old.

While Lex Luthor, Joker, Cheetah, Brainiac, Bizarro, Gorilla Groog, and others are formattable they do need some numbers to match the Justice League Unlimited. But with so many of the villains being wild card it will be harder for the likes of Lex Luthor to keep them organized like the JLU are.

There is on top of the fact that in recent Titans’ issues we are seeing the returning Deathstroke reforming the Crime Syndicate. With another major villain organization being formed there is competition between major villains for recruits. This creates the question if the Legion of Doom can turn itself into a unifying organization for villains like the Justice League Unlimited are right now.

NEW SECRET SIX SERIES LAUNCHES

With what is going on over with the Justice League Unlimited and Legion of Doom it made the launch of a new Secret Six series standout. Previous versions of the Secret Six have been like the Suicide Squad and Task Force X of a collection of villains turned anti-heroes. This new Secret Six series does feature villains in Deadshot, Catman, and Black Alice but now mixes in next generation heroes in Dreamer, Jon Kent, and Jay Nakamura.

Creating a balance of villains and heroes does further push the idea the Secret Six will be an anti-hero super team. Though these aren’t major names outside of Jon Kent, whose run on Superman was nowhere near as successful as DC Comics likely hoped.

With how many exciting new comic books are launching in the Absolute Universe and titles like Batman, Superman, and Justice League setting up major storylines it will be tough for Secret Six to be gain attention. Its attention that Secret Six is hoping for by making the story of its limited series being centered around Amanda Waller. Though given how Amanda Waller’s story came to a close at the end of Absolute Power this does seem to early to bring her back into the DCU fold.

JUSTICE LEAGUE AND SONIC THE HEDGEHOG CRSSOVER

DC Comics has been even more open to doing crossovers with other brands in recent years. That is not going to be changing in 2025. We see that with the announcement of the DC x Sonic the Hedgehog crossover comic book. This is certainly a cool choice with how many hardcore Sonic the Hedgehog fans there are. Sonic the Hedgehog also has a lot of casual fans thanks to the movies being a big success with kids and long-time fans.

The only thing that could’ve be said in the negative for this crossover is why this comic book didn’t start releasing in December 2024 or January 2025? DC Comics would’ve been smart to release this earlier to build off the momentum of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie that had so many fans hyped for it. Releasing three months later may be too late to build off that momentum unless by then it is released on Paramount Plus, Netflix, Max, or Amazon Prime by the time this comic release. Hopefully the timing works out.
