Top Takeaways From Marvel Comics February 2025 Solicitations

Marvel Comics February 2025 solicitations are here! Continuing the obvious moves most expected Marvel to make, we will be getting a new big event headlined by Doctor Doom. That event will be a nine-issue event named One World Under Doom. With a big event already taking place to start the year let’s see what other takeaways there are from Marvel Comics February 2025 comic book solicitations.

ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM EVENT BEGINS

February will see the start of the newest Marvel big event in the form of One World Under Doom. As the name suggests this will be a Doctor Doom-led event. Given how Doctor Doom’s stock will be elevated even further in the next few years with Robert Downey Jr. playing the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this was bound to happen. It is honestly surprising that Marvel showed so much restraint in waiting six months after Doctor Doom became Sorcerer Supreme to be the main antagonist of a big event.

Jokes aside, unless the plan is to release event chapters twice a month, One World Under Doom will take up most of 2025. This will certainly not cause Marvel to limit the number of events they release per year. They have shown year after year that they will release crossover events that are happening simultaneously. But if One World Under Doom does go for six to nine months than there will be a clear hierarchy of which event to focus on.

With the potential real-time length of One World Under Doom there is the question of how that will impact the entire Marvel publishing line. We already see in Marvel Comics February 2025 solicitations that Thunderbolts, Storm, X-Factor, Red Hulk, Weapon X-Men, Doom Academy, and Fantastic Four will be carrying the One World Under Doom banners. This is just the start of the tie-ins as many other titles such as Avengers and Amazing Spider-Man will eventually have tie-ins happen in their comics. That makes the sales impact One World Under Doom has to be something to keep a close eye on during the nine issue run of the Marvel event.

BUCKY BARNES TO BLAME FOR DOCTOR DOOM’S RISE

A new Thunderbolts comic book was bound to happen. There is no way Marvel won’t fill up the stands with the Thunderbolts in one form or fashion, as they are doing with Captain America. The latest series for the franchise, Thunderbolts: Doomstrike, will be tying into the One World Under Doom event. That should give the series a much needed sales boost since Collin Kelly and Jackson Lazing are still trying to find their breakout success with Marvel after not having done so with Captain America.

Adding an interesting wrinkle to Thunderbolts: Doomstrike is the spoiler that Bucky Barnes had a major role in helping Doctor Doom take over the world. That immediately sets up a massive redemption arc for Bucky as the Winter Soldier. If Kelly and Lanzing tap into the more violent edge that Thunderbolts has had there could be some highly tense moments for this Winter Soldier-led Thunderbolts.

Though given the set-up there is the question if Bucky will actually get his redemption. It is not a good sign that this story is being told in a mini-series. That likely means we won’t be seeing Bucky play a big role in One World Under Doom. That does limit how much of an impact whatever Bucky’s character has if it doesn’t play a substantial role in how this Doctor Doom story is resolved.

EDDIE BROCK BECOMES CARNAGE

Eddie Brock popularity has grown leaps and bounds the last decade. A true test of that popularity will be what happens when he doesn’t have the Venom name attached to him. That will be tested as he becomes the new host of the Carnage Symbiote. Still being in the Symbiote world will help lift the title up but still this is a great test to see if Eddie Brock himself is a seller and not just Venom.

Marvel has set up this new Carnage series for success as they’ve teamed Charles Soule and Jesus Saiz as the creative team. That is a very strong creative team. Soule in particular has done a lot of good stuff at Marvel like his Daredevil and Star Wars runs. That should add to the fanbase interest that this new series will have.

Becoming Carnage also will be a big test for Eddie Brock personally. The Carnage Symbiote will give Eddie a big temptation to possibly return to his more villainous ways. How Eddie and the Carnage Symbiote balance each other out could be even more interesting to see than with the Venom Symbiote.

WOLVERINE ASSEMBLES WEAPON X-MEN

It was only a matter of time before Marvel gave Wolverine is his own team series to lead. Throughout the Krakoa Era while he was a major player Logan took a step back to let others lead. He was very much the enforcer of the franchise, a role he was happy to play. But that did feel like a step back after we spent so many years before the Krakoa Era seeing Wolverine grow as a leader.

Now that changes with the launch of Weapon X-Men as Wolverine is leading a team that includes Deadpool, Cable, Chamber, and Thunderbird. Those are certainly heavy hitters of take no mercy fighters assembled for Weapon X-Men. Having Cable and Deadpool together in the series in particular stands out. Those two were paired up for so long that its been a shame we haven’t seen Marvel tap back into their chemistry lately. That should bring a lot of fun chaos with the rest of the team Wolverine has assembled.

As for the stories that Weapon X-Men is tackling, right out of the gate the series will be tying into the One World Under Doom event. Locking a series to a big event right out of the gate does create the question of how long the tie into One World Under Doom will be. Is Weapon X-Men’s first story arc going to last throughout the nine-issue run of the event? Or will it be allowed to pivot to its own storylines after two or three issues? We’ll have to wait and see.

ULTIMATE LUKE CAGE SET UP TO MAKE THE ULTIMATE IMPACT

The Ultimates #6 proved that the Ultimate Universe’s version of the Avengers are nowhere near ready to take on The Maker’s Council. They were absolutely clowned out by the Immortal Weapons of Hulk with Tony Stark being left in a critical state. With one of the Ultimates in a near death state there is no doubt they need more help. Specifically, they need someone powerful with experience as a fighter to help them out.

That is where Ultimate Luke Cage looks to be the difference maker that the Ultimates possibly need. As the solicitation for The Ultimates #9 mentions, Ultimate Luke Cage is someone that is locked up because he was finally caught after spending an unknown amount of time sabotaging the Maker’s Council plans. That explanation establishes Ultimate Luke Cage as someone with a lot of experience battling against the Maker’s Council. That is something none of the Ultimates or any of the other heroes we’ve seen have.

Setting up Ultimate Luke Cage like this also puts into question how much he knows about the Ultimate Universe that The Maker created. The knowledge Luke Cage has will be as valuable as his physical strength given that state of the Ultimates. It all can come together to make the character the difference maker the heroes of the Ultimate Universe need.

PHOENIX & IMMORTAL THOR CROSSOVER IN THE WORKS

Marvel Comics February 2025 Solicitations: Phoenix #8

With each passing month there has been connections being drawn between Phoenix and Immortal Thor. They aren’t the most obvious connections but both title are dealing with the cosmic side of things. The most recent Phoenix issues brought up how Jean Grey has reached a God-like status with her powers. She even fought Gor the God Butcher and is about to clash with Thanos while meeting with Eternity in the middle of all that.

The connections with Gor, Thanos, and Eternity does point to Phoenix possibly getting involved in more Godly conflicts. Which has the evets going on in The Immortal Thor to mind. We’ve see Thor get fighting the Elder Gods. As the story has progressed there is a big question if he can overcome all these odds. With The Immortal Thor #20 promoting the current storyline as the God of Thunder’s final adventure he could use some help from Phoenix.

Having a crossover between the two series could also bring back up the connection as one of the Phoenix Force’s ancient vessels helped bring Odin and Gaia together and revived a baby Thor’s life after he was assassinated soon after his birth. Drawing on that connection would play in well to further elevate Jean Grey even further as someone who is taking on threats like the Elder Gods. There is also that big tease of a big Thanos event on the horizon from Thor’s Black Winter vision of the future that is still hanging in the air. So even if its not the Elder Gods, what can bring us a Phoenix and Immortal Thor crossover is Thanos.
