Energon Universe Preview: Transformers #17

Transformers kicked off 2025 by creating even more momentum for the new year. That momentum is something that writer Daniel Warren Johnson, artist Jorge Corona, and colorist Mike Spicer will be letting up on. That is shown as Skybound and Image Comics is teasing an all-new character debuting in February’s Transformers #17. With such a tease we got a preview of this debut happening in Transformers #17 to share.

In addition to the four-page preview we also got a look at the covers for Transformers #17. The main cover will be handled by Johnson and Spicer with variant covers from Corona and Mike Spicer, Karl Kerschl (Adventures of Superman), Jay Anacleto and Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Homare.

First Look at the Debut of an All-New TRANSFORMERS Character in TRANSFORMERS #17

LOS ANGELES 01/17/2025 — Today Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with leading toy and game company Hasbro, revealed interior pages and the lineup of variant covers for TRANSFORMERS #17, the two-time Eisner Award winning series from writer Daniel Warren Johnson (ExtremityDo a Powerbomb), artist Jorge Corona (Middlewest), and colorist Mike Spicer (Stillwater, Murder Falcon). The next chapter of the tentpole Energon Universe story will be available on shelves in comic book shops February 12, 2025.

As the titanic clash from last issue rages on, a covert group of Autobots continues their search for the ally who could turn the tide on Earth – ULTRA MAGNUS! Featuring the debut of an ALL NEW TRANSFORMERS character!

In addition to the main cover by Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer, the lineup of variant covers for TRANSFORMERS #17 includes an open-to-order cover B by series artist Jorge Corona & Mike Spicer, a 1:10 incentive variant continuing the connecting cover series by Karl Kerschl (Adventures of Superman), a 1:25 incentive variant by cover artist Jay Anacleto & colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr., and a 1:50 incentive variant by cover artist Homare.

TRANSFORMERS is the cornerstone of the Energon Universe, the crown jewel of the historic collaboration between Hasbro and Skybound, who has introduced a brand-new era of the TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE franchises in one shared comic book universe. Other Energon Universe titles include the ongoing series Void Rivals by writer Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead), artist Lorenzo De Felici (Kroma), and colorist Patricio Delpeche (The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country) and the new G.I.
