All right, let’s go ahead and dish out The Revolution’s weekly awards.
The nominees for the Che for the best read of the week:

Action Comics #870
Avengers/Invaders #5
Detective Comics #849
Secret Invasion: Inhumans #3

The Winner: Action Comics #870

The Revolution has already praised Detective Comics #849 in our review so I won’t bother re-hashing the point here. Suffice it to say that Dini is cranking out such a dependable read every single month and is treating the reader to an enjoyably balanced story. Dini is equally adept at delivering action, drama and mystery. Detective Comics is a title that should have broad appeal.

Secret Invasion: Inhumans #3 was another quality read. This title has been an absolute blast to read. Joe Pokaski has done a nice job creating a story that moves along at a fast pace and combines good dialogue with kick-ass action. I liked the unexpected twist of Medusa agreeing to marry Crystal off to Ronan the Accuser in return for the Kree warrior’s help. I dig the fact that Pokaski is exploring the Kree roots of the Inhumans in light of the Skrull Invasion. Pokaski is doing a fantastic job with Medusa. She has really gotten the chance to grow and set out from the shadow of the Black Bolt. Tom Raney and Scott Hanna also provide for plenty of gorgeous artwork.

Avengers/Invaders #5 was another strong read. Krueger continues to impress me with his work on this title. The story took a decidedly unexpected turn with the end of this issue with Human Torch arriving on the SHIELD Helicarrier intent on freeing the LMD’s. I dig the way that Krueger has Human Torch view the branding of the LMD’s with a numbered code and treating them like sub-humans as exactly the kind of evil that he was fighting against in World War II. I have to give credit to Krueger in taking this story in a direction that I just simply did not see coming.

However, in the end I had to agree with the Followers of The Revolution and award the Che for the best comic book of the week to Action Comics #870. Even though I had my serious issues with Johns killing off Jonathon Kent, the fact remains that this was a fantastically crafted issue.

And now the nominees for the Sequential Methadone Award for the worst read of the week:

Invincible Iron Man #6
Trinity #19

The Winner: Invincible Iron Man #6

Trinity #19 was another average read. At times, Trinity reads like a generic old school themed comic book. And that is the problem with this title. If DC expects readers to plunk down their hard earned cash on a weekly basis then they had better deliver a story that is better than just average.

Of course, there really was no competition this week for the Sequential Methadone Award. I had to agree with the Followers of The Revolution and award the Sequential Methadone Award for the worst read of the week to Invincible Iron Man #6.

Invincible Iron Man #6 was just atrocious. This issue was a wretched blend of poor character work, cheesy dialogue, an unoriginal story and over the top melodrama. Quite simply, this is an unintelligent and stupid read. The quality of writing is startling between what we had been getting from the Knaufs and what Fraction is now foisting onto the reader.

Fraction continues to display an alarming ignorance of Tony Stark’s character and Iron Man continuity in general. This title reads like it is being written by a fanfiction writer who is obsessed with the Iron Man movie. Having Tony, a long-time weapons manufacturer and the current head of SHIELD lamenting in such a ridiculous overly dramatic fashion about the fact that the suicide bombers were killed when Tony neutralized their tech was just a joke.

So congrats to Action Comics #870 for winning The Che Award of the week and “congrats” to Invincible Iron Man #6 for winning the Sequential Methadone Award for the week.
