Comic Book Reviews: Absolute Batman #5ABSOLUTE BATMAN #5

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Scott Snyder

Artist: Nick Dragotta

Colorist: Frank Martin

Letterer: Clayton Cowles

More than any issue of this series thus far Absolute Batman #5 makes it clear what Bruce Wayne’s vision as the Dark Knight is. Even the core of what makes Batman is still here with the Absolute Universe counterpart, this Bruce has a vision for how he will go about his superhero journey. The results of those choices end up being severe as Black Mask and Party Animals put on a display of force that leaves in Absolute Batman a stunning broken. This result puts into question what is next for not just Bruce Wayne but also the supporting cast, particularly Jim Gordon and Martha Wayne.

Comic Book Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #67AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #67

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Justina Ireland

Artists: Andrea Broccardo and Niko Henrichon

Inker: Scott Hanna

Colorist: Marcio Menyz

Letterer: Joe Caramagna

I applaud the effort made to integrate the X-Men into “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man” through the logical connection to Juggernaut and Scions of Cyttorak. Unfortunately, the developments in Amazing Spider-Man #67 are introduced last minute because its information forgotten to be presented earlier. This leads to a comic book with Peter Parker spinning his wheels, X-Men being forced into the story, and villains that come across generic with their displays of emotion. That is certainly not good as we get into the final act of this long story that’s length is certainly becoming a detriment rather than strength.

Overall Rating: 3.5 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews: Green Lantern Corps #1GREEN LANTERN CORPS #1

CREATIVE TEAM

Writers: Morgan Hampton and Jeremy Adams

Artist: Fernando Pasarin

Inker: Oclair Albert

Colorist: Arif Prianto

Letterer: Dave Sharpe

Green Lantern Corps #1 has a fresh start aura that is given to everything that goes on. At the same time, what is presented is built off everything that’s happened with the Green Lantern franchise in the last few years. While the show stealers are certainly John Stewart, Sinestro, and Blackfire there is time also given to Jessica Cruz starting her time as Green Lantern Corps leader to get over the bigger picture of the series. Striking that balance made for a strong debut that shows Green Lantern Corps will stand on its own.

Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews: One World Under Doom #1ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM #1

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Ryan North

Artist: R.B. Silva

Colorist: David Curiel

Letterer: Travis Lanham

One World Under Doom #1 effectively kicks off Marvel’s big event. Even when running into continuity heavy problems Ryan North and R.B. Silva make sure to have the focus on the present. That allows Doctor Doom’s declaration of becoming the Emperor of Earth and the plight Marvel’s heroes find themselves in to fully get over. Click here to read the full review.

TRANSFORMERS #17 Cover E (1:50 Copy Incentive) by HomareTRANSFORMERS #17

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Daniel Warren Johnson

Artist: Jorge Corona

Colorist: Mike Spicer

Letterer: Rus Wooton

Transformers #17 strikes an excellent balance between multiple plotlines going on at the same time. No plotline ever feels less than any of the other ones going on. Daniel Warren Johnson and Jorge Corona make sure to give every setting enough time to feel properly developed. This leads to every character, Autobot and Decepticon, coming across as important parts of the series. Which emphasizing why Transformers as one of the premiere comic books being published right now. Comic Book Reviews: X-Men #11X-MEN #11

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Jed MacKay

Artist: Netho Diaz

Inker: Sean Parsons

Colorist: Fer Sifuentes-Sujo

Letterer: Clayton Cowles

X-Men #11 is the best issue of this volume of the series thus far. What makes Jed MacKay superhero writing approach so fun is here in full display. That along with Netho Diaz’s energetic artwork got over how far this X-Men team has come. The chemistry from their banter to how they fight together as a team against Kree-Skrull army is on point. The additions of Corsair and Alpha Flight add to the fun, building excitement for what will happen next in this series.

Overall Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10
