Comic Book Reviews: Absolute Wonder Woman #5ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #5

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Kelly Thompson

Artist: Hayden Sherman

Colorist: Jordie Bellaire

Letterer: Becca Carey

Absolute Wonder Woman #5 drives home how compelling Diana of the Wild Isle origin story is. The mother-daughter relationship between Circe and Diana did so much to help get over what defines this version of Wonder Woman. That led to Wonder Woman’s iconic lasso to take on a twist that is unique to the Absolute Universe. How that then transitions into the next big story for Absolute Wonder Woman was done so naturally your immediately invested in where Diana’s journey goes from here. Click here to read full review.

Comic Book Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #68.DeathsAMAZING SPIDER-MAN #68.DEATHS

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Christos Gage

Artist: Mark Buckingham

Colorist: Mattia Iacono

Letterer: Joe Caramagna

The deeper we get into “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man” the more it goes beyond the point of needing to end. This issue is a pure excuse to explain why the X-Men, specifically Juggernaut, part in the story wasn’t last minute. While there is logic implemented to justify Juggernaut’s inclusion it is all just too late in the game. The fact this couldn’t be integrated into the main story of “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man” that is ten issues long is even more telling to how stretch many aspects have been.

Comic Book Reviews: Detective Comics #1094DETECTIVE COMICS #1094

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Tom Taylor

Artist: Mikel Janin

Letterer: Wes Abbott

Detective Comics #1094 further drives home how Tom Taylor and Mikel Janin’s run is one of consistency. You can always expect the story continue to develop at a steady pace that moves every aspect forward. Having this focus allows you to get into the detective vibe they are creating with the pacing. Bringing in Damian Wayne to help with the investigation by having him infiltrate one of the juvenile prisons gave the story an even more personal touch. While we see that Batman is proud of the actions Robin took the parent side of Bruce Wayne showed a clear concern for Damian. It was a strong balance that all helped push the story forward and drive a greater investment in what happens next.

Comic Book Reviews" Godzilla vs America: Chicago #1GODZILLA VS. AMERICA: CHICAGO #1

CREATIVE TEAM

Writers: Mike Costa, Tim Seeley, Erza C. Daniels, and Caroline Cash

Artists: Ryan Browne, Tim Seeley, Erza C. Daniels, and Caroline Cash

Colorists: Ryan Browne, Kevin Knipstein, and Heather Breckel

Letterers: Brian Kolek, Erza C. Daniels, and Caroline Cash

As with many stories involving the King of Monsters, Godzilla vs America: Chicago is at its best when Godzilla is the focus. The attempts made to focus on the humans of each respective story range from good to time wasting. To the credit of each creative team is that when they each make the kaiju aspects of their story the star of this anthology comic book is at its best. The artwork in each story is particularly the standout as it shows how Godzilla can be adapted in many different ways that maintain their aura.

Comic Book Reviews: Green Lantern #20GREEN LANTERN #20

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Jeremy Adams

Artist: Jack Herbert

Colorist: Romulo Fajardo Jr.

Letterer: Dave Sharpe

While Hal Jordan is certainly still the lead Green Lantern of this series it is refreshing he is not the only one getting the spotlight. Given the scope of the Fractured Spectrum direction focusing on just one Green Lantern in one of the franchise’s comics would make the series smaller in comparison to other titles. Jeremy Adams clearly understood this as we see Kyle Rayner, Conner Kent, and Odyssey the Time Bandit play a big role in Green Lantern #20. The trio actually turn out to have the most important development with what they discover in their journey escalates the direction to an even higher level. It’s a development that drives home this being the main Green Lantern series.

Comic Book Reviews: Justice League Unlimited #4JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #4

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Mark Waid

Artist: Dan Mora

Colorist: Tamra Bonvillain

Letterer: Ariana Maher

Justice League Unlimited #4 sticks the landing for the finale of the series first story arc. Mark Waid and Dan Mora continue to do a fantastic job at nailing how to juggle so many different characters. Most importantly, every hero was made to play an important role in the battle to stop Inferno. Establish this was so important to getting over the concept of the Justice League Unlimited wouldn’t just go back to the core seven members. This is a Justice League dealing with Crisis-level things going on in the DC Universe. That in turn makes how Inferno is established as a credible threat when this first story arc wraps up.

Comic Book Reviews: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #7TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #7

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Jason Aaron

Artist: Juan Ferreyra

Letterer: Shawn Lee

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #7 is another thrilling chapter that further solidifies this as one of the must-read titles on the market today. The choice of having Donatello as the narrator of this issue leads to a greater examination of the individual character arcs the Hamato Clan. This results in showcasing the incredible chemistry Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra have as a creative team. Click here to read full review.
