Comic Book Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #69AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #69

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Joe Kelly

Artist: Ed McGuinness

Colorist: Marcio Menyz

Letterer: Joe Caramagna

Amazing Spider-Man #69 is a big improvement over the last few chapters of “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man.” All of the problems with the second half of this story arc continue to exist, particularly with the X-Men’s forced presence in the proceedings. That said, the gravity of Peter Parker’s decision and how that ends up impacting one of Scyons to understand the feeling of love for life hits as Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness intended it to. It does set-up for a logical conclusion. That’s a positive that did not seem attainable during recent chapters but at least we got there.

Comic Book Reviews: Assorted Crisis Events #1ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS #1

Artist: Eric Zawadzki

Colorist: Jordie Bellaire

With Assorted Crisis Events #1 Deniz Camp and Eric Zawadski create an incredibly compelling comic book. You are completely ingrossed by the incredible imagination as your concept of the reality that creates a journey where you are truly following the lead character’s experience. The framework to create all the different crises that the lead deals with is so unique. The visuals by artist Zawadski and colorist Jordie Bellaire are particularly stunning with the panel framing and colors used from page to page. This is must-read comic book for all.

Comic Book Reviews: Green Lantern Corps #2GREEN LANTERN CORPS #2

CREATIVE TEAM

Writers: Morgan Hampton and Jeremy Adams

Artist: Fernando Pesarin

Inker: Oclair Albert

Colorist: Arif Prianto

Letterer: Dave Sharpe

Continuing to explore the chaos going on throughout the DC Universe by exploring the Thanagarians status quo shows how far reaching the Fractured Spectrum saga reaches. This opened the door to explore the unstable state of the Emotional Spectrum further with the Red Lanterns making a strong presence. In the process Morgan Hampton and Jeremy Adams are able to utilize the dynamic between John Stewart and Hawkwoman in fun ways. That said, future issues need to do a better job making other Green Lanterns feeling like main players as this comic book comic across as a John Stewart series rather than a team book. Finding a better way to utilizes the variety of members of the Green Lantern Corps will make the Fractured Spectrum saga even stronger.

Comic Book Reviews: Phoenix #9PHOENIX #9

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Stephanie Phillips

Artist: Alessandro Miracolo

Colorist: David Curiel

Letterer: Ariana Maher

Phoenix #9 is purely a set-up chapter. There isn’t a whole lot of movement in this issue as the place we start is similar to where we end this issue on. To Stephanie Phillips credit, she lifts a filler story up with a lot of great character work that you still want to see where things are going with Jean Grey taking on Adani and Perrikus. It helps that Alessandro Miracolo continues to be at the top of their game with great cosmic visuals.
