Comic Book Reviews: Absolute Wonder Woman #7ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #7

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Kelly Thompson

Artist: Mattia De Iulis

Letterer: Becca Carey

It is truly outstanding how much of an emotional connection Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis are able to draw with Diana and Circe’s relationship. Their mother-daughter connection elevates the stakes of Diana’s fight to escape the Underworld in Absolute Wonder Woman #7. The intensity of the fight continues to be raised by how Circe is made to witness Wonder Woman’s fights. That emotional investment creates an even greater connection as the reader to what the end result is and what it means for what comes next in this series.

Comic Book Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #2AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #2

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Joe Kelly

Artist: Pepe Larraz

Colorist: Marte Gracia

Letterer: Joe Caramagna

Amazing Spider-Man #2 did its job of continuing the positive momentum for the start of Joe Kelly and Pepe Larraz’s creative run. The nightmare experience Peter Parker goes through showed how strong the creative chemistry between Kelly and Larraz is. Now as long as they can use that creative power to get over a villain Kelly created a decade ago the winning can continue for this series. Click here to read the full review.

Comic Book Reviews: Assorted Crisis Events #2ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS #2

CREATIVE TEAM

Deniz Camp, Eric Zawadzki, and Jordie Bellaire fully draw you into how one character handles a variety of crisis’ across their lives. Camp’s writing makes sure that the cohesion is never lost no matter how often we shift to different time periods. For impressive as the writing is, it’s Zawadzki and Bellaire’s artwork that steals the show. There are so many great things done visually to amplify the storytelling of the various crisis that makes the entire comic book captivating.

Comic Book Reviews: Batman #159BATMAN #159

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Jeph Loeb

Artist: Jim Lee

Inker: Scott Williams

Colorist: Alex Sinclair

Letterer: Richard Starkings

Batman #159 leans too much on telling yet another chapter in the never-ending Batman and Joker narrative. This leads to easily forgetting that this is supposed to be part of the sequel to Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee’s Hush story. The only thing that saves this second chapter from being a complete dud is the development involving Nightwing, Oracle, and Riddler. That and Jim Lee’s high-quality artwork. But even then, that is not enough to save this from being a disappointing second chapter to the Hush sequel, aka H2sh. Click here to read the full review.

Comic Book Reviews: G.I. JOE #6G.I. JOE #6

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Joshua Williamson

G.I. JOE #6 is an excellent conclusion to the first story arc of this series. Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, and Jordie Bellaire are at the top of their game delivering a story with a ton of thrills. From the opening to the final page your attention is never let go as the promised Duke vs Cobra Commander fight leads to an intense conclusion. Comic Book Reviews: Green Lantern #22GREEN LANTERN #22

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Jeremy Adams

Artist: Xermanico

Colorist: Romulo Fajardo Jr.

Letterer: Dave Sharpe

If you want an example of how a comic book should manage multiple storylines in 20 pages look no further than Green Lantern #22. Jeremy Adams puts on a masterclass of how to juggle multiple stories to further enhance the impact the Fractured Spectrum direction is having on the DC Universe. It is made even more impressive by how Hal Jordan, Carol Ferris, Kyle Rayner, Conner Kent, and Odyssey the Time Bandit get quality development. All that development leads to some very cool moments that get you even more invested in where things go next for the Fractured Spectrum direction.

Overall Rating: 9.5 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews: Justice League Unlimited #6JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #6

CREATIVE TEAM

Writers: Mark Waid and Christopher Cantwell

Artist: Travis Moore

Colorist: Tamra Bonvillain

Letterer: Dave Sharpe

Justice League Unlimited #6 accomplishes its mission to put over how Gorilla Grodd is the mastermind behind the new iteration of the Legion of Doom. It is all done in a way that makes sure by the time you finish reading this comic book you are fully bought into Gorilla Grodd. Every decision he makes gets you to hate him in a way you should hate a well written villain. That development leads you to buy into the Legion of Doom to be the biggest threat the Justice League Unlimited are now facing.

Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews: Last Boy #2THE LAST BOY #2

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Dan Panosian

Artist: Alessio Avallone

Colorists: Valentina Pinto, Agnese Pozza, and Rik Mack

Letterer: Jeff Eckleberry

When it comes to twisting classic stories and giving them fresh takes arguably no one does it better than Dan Panosian. The Last Boy #2 is a great example of this as Panosian maximizes the core portrayal of Peter Pan and how he warps everything around his idea of how Neverland should operate. How those actions end up being received by the world around Peter leaves you wonder where the dark twist will take this narrative. The only part of The Last Boy that isn’t fully working is the Wendy side things. Once there is greater cohesion with the narrative, The Last Boy will reach the next level.

Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews: One World Under DoomONE WORLD UNDER DOOM #3

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Ryan North

Artist: R.B. Silva

Colorist: David Curiel

Letterer: Travis Lanham

One World Under Doom #3 takes the Avengers greatest weakness and shines a massive spotlight on it. And the person who shines that spotlight is none other than Doctor Doom himself. The Avengers made it easy by being themselves and being tunneled vision about believing they needed to stop the big bad without fully comprehending what Doctor Doom accomplished. It’s that direction that easily makes One World Under Doom #3 the best issue of this event thus far and what was needed to create intrigue beyond the initial pitch.

Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10
