Welcome back to another edition of the comic book reviews round-up! This week continued to show how packed every week continues to be. This week’s comic book reviews round-up I’m going to be spotlighting Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #2, Giant-Size Daredevil #1, Green Lantern #12, and Scarlet Witch #1. Find out how these comic books turned out below.

Comic Book Reviews: Batman and Robin #10BATMAN AND ROBIN #10

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Joshua Williamson

Artists: Simone Di Meo and Nikola Čižmešija

Colorists: Rex Lokus and Giovanna Niro

Letterer: Steve Wands

Batman and Robin #10 delivers an ending that unfortunately does not live up to all the build that went into this finale. The way Man-Bat’s plot was resolved came across as a step back from where things started. Luckily the final third of this issue lifted up this comic book thanks to the strong dynamic Damian Wayne shares with Bruce Wayne and Flatline. Click here to read full review.

Comic Book Reviews: Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #2DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE: WWIII #2

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Joe Kelly

Artist: Adam Kubert

Colorist: Frank Martin

Letterer: Joe Sabino

Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII #2 is ultra-violent fun. This is the type of comic book that as soon as you open it you turn off your brain and just enjoy what is going on each page. Through it all Joe Kelly and Adam Kubert fully tap into the magical chemistry that Deadpool and Wolverine have with one another. Whether it’s through them fighting each other or bantering back-and-forth they have shown a chemistry that shows how this pair balances out each other. Because of that fun, and sometimes strong emotional moments, it makes the antagonist they are up against put over as credible threats. It all comes together to help feed in the hype that continues to build the closer we get to the Deadpool & Wolverine movie.

Comic Book Reviews: Giant-Size Daredevil #1GIANT-SIZE DAREDEVIL #1

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Saladin Ahmed

Artist: Paul Davidson

Colorist: Matt Hollingsworth

Letterer: Clayton Cowles

Though this is titled Giant-Size Daredevil it is a one-shot that the Man and Woman Without Fear are supporting characters at best. This is really a Wilson Fisk comic book to continue reestablishing himself as the Kingpin of Crime again. In terms of that, Saladin Ahmed and Paul Davidson accomplished their mission statement. Which was certainly needed as we see that without the shackles of a political career the type of brutality Wilson Fisk is capable of with his own hands. But while the Wilson Fisk side of things is successful it is disappointing that the second half of the page count is dedicated to a reprint of an old Daredevil story. This page count should’ve been given to Ahmed to write a Foggy and Cole North or other supporting character story to enhance his own run. Just something to add value rather than going the lazy route to charge fans more.

Comic Book Reviews: Green Lantern #12GREEN LANTERN #12

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Jeremy Adams

Artist: Xermanico

Colorist: Romulo Fajardo Jr.

Letterer: Dave Sharpe

Green Lantern #12 solidified this series being the best comic book DC Comics is currently publishing. The sense of scale that Jeremy Adams and Xermanico created from beginning to end is absolutely incredible. The non-stop action creates genuine concern for what will happen to Hal Jordan, Jo Mullein, and their allies while fighting the United Planet’s Lantern Corps. By creating that concern it makes the moment Carol Danvers appears on the screen be even more important. How this all transitions into how Green Lantern will factor into the Absolute Power event is done as well as this type of transition can be handled.

Overall Rating: 9.5 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews: Scarlet Witch #1SCARLET WITCH #1

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Steve Orlando

Artist: Jacopo Camagni

Colorist: Frank Martin

Letterer: Ariana Maher

Though this is a new mini-series it is not a completely new reader friendly comic book as expected from a #1 issue. Scarlet Witch #1 is very much a continuation of Steve Orlando’s Scarlet Witch run, which includes the 2023 ongoing and Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver mini-series. As a fan of both, Scarlet Witch #1 does a great job at continuing Wanda Maximoff modern day development. There is a great sense of progression to where Wanda’s narrative is going. Orlando has a great understanding of who Wanda is and how her supporting cast can enhance this latest story involving the Darkhold. The antagonist introduced through this development provides a lot of intrigue to see what ride this Scarlet Witch series will take us on.

Transformers #9 Karen S. Darboe CoverTRANSFORMERS #9

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Daniel Warren Johnson

Artist: Jorge Corona

Colorist: Mike Spicer

Letterer: Rus Wooton

Transformers #9 was a banger of a comic book. Daniel Warren Johnson, Jorge Corona, and Mike Spicer waste no time in delivering a battle between the Autobots and Decepticons that had a controlled chaos energy to it. Every issue of this series has been must-read and Transfomers #9 was no different. Click here to read full review.

Comic Book Reviews: Ultimate X-Men #4ULTIMATE X-MEN #4

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer & Artist: Peach Momoko

Script Adaptation: Zack Davisson

Letterer: Travis Lanham

Ultimate X-Men #4 does a phenomenal job continuing the Shadow King storyline and having big developments for Hisako Ichiki. The way this issue concludes creates a lot of intriguing possibilities the direction this series will take from here. It all once again highlights why the unique comic book reading experience Peach Momoko has created is must-read. Click here to read full review.
